Boarding Explora III after winning Wimbledon
July 24, 2026, Genoa port. When Jannik Sinner carried his tennis bag onto Explora III, it had only just been a short time since he lifted the Wimbledon trophy. The world’s No. 1 tennis player temporarily switched roles—not as a competitor, but as a guest on board. As the global brand ambassador for Explora Journeys, he became the first guest on this brand-new cruise ship. Meeting the world No. 1 up close was more than just an autograph or photo The first highlight after boarding was an unscripted Q&A session. Sitting on stage, Sinner talked about what went into winning Wimbledon—not the usual press release lines, but the daily discipline on the training court, how he stays calm in critical moments, and his understanding of what it means to be “top-level.” The audience listened quietly, asking question after question. This kind of close interaction can’t be compared to a post-match interview. Next came a newly launched wellness experience—In Balance: A Jannik Sinner Ocean Wellness Programme. This program was developed by Sinner and his professional fitness team. His coach Simone Vagnozzi, Darren Cahill, and fitness trainers Umberto Ferrara and Andrea Cipolla personally led several classes for guests. Sinner himself was there—not just on stage, but actively participating. Some guests sneaked glances at him on the yoga mat and saw that when he held a plank, his form was as steady as if he were playing a five-set match on grass. A diamond badge and a new court After the Q&A, Anna Nash, global president of Explora Journeys, took the stage to officially welcome Sinner to the Explora luxury traveler club—not as a regular member, but as the first honorary diamond member. A diamond commemorative badge was handed to him. Before the applause died down, his coaching team was also awarded the same honor. The recognition was given to the entire team, a detail very fitting for tennis. Then, Sinner joined Captain Serena Melani and Anna Nash to cut the ribbon on the ship’s brand-new paddle tennis court. As the ribbon fell, he glanced at his coach, and the two smiled as they picked up rackets and played a casual match. It wasn’t an exhibition—it was just the two of them playing tennis at sea. The sea breeze slightly altered the ball’s path, and Sinner smiled and shook his head as he bent down to pick up the ball, looking just like he does at Wimbledon. A charity dinner, two foundations joining forces for the first time That evening at the Fil Rouge French restaurant, the lighting was warm and inviting. Representatives from the Sinner Foundation and the MSC Mediterranean Foundation sat at the same table. This was the first time the two foundations had partnered on a charity event—to raise funds for ocean education programs for children in Mediterranean coastal communities. There were no long speeches, but everyone understood the significance of the dinner. Explora III deserves a special mention Explora III is the first LNG-powered ship in the Explora Journeys fleet, with six more planned to launch by 2028. The official naming ceremony will take place in Barcelona on August 1, followed by the maiden voyage to Lisbon on August 3. The guests on this voyage got an exclusive behind-the-scenes preview, seeing many new features: redesigned public spaces, more spacious ocean suites and ocean view villas, and three new dining experiences—the Chef’s Table, The Cellar wine lounge, and the Coast Club on Deck 11’s The Conservatory. The Ocean Wellness space on Deck 5 was also fully upgraded, and Sinner’s program will be a permanent offering here. The journey ended on July 29 in Civitavecchia. Guests disembarked with autographs, photos, and unforgettable classes, while Sinner returned to shore to continue his season. But some things had changed—a cruise ship now has a court he personally unveiled, a wellness program he helped create, and a champion’s story that will be told with every voyage.

Taking the early bus, I claimed the whole winter in Trogir
Maybe because it's the off-season in winter and also the Christmas holiday, there are very few same-day round-trip buses from Split to Trogir. In the morning, there's only one bus (less than 40 minutes one way, really close). I went on Christmas Eve, 12/24, and arrived in Trogir before 8 a.m. 😂 The whole city was still asleep. But with fewer people at this time, it was really great for strolling and taking photos!! 📸 The weather was rainy and sunny alternately, which felt quite atmospheric~ Trogir Old Town is also listed as a World Cultural Heritage site. Definitely worth a visit~ Game of Thrones was also filmed here 🎞️ The island’s right-angled street layout, exquisite Romanesque churches ⛪️, and short Baroque-style buildings make the city’s scenery uniquely charming. By noon, the once empty streets suddenly came alive again 😂 It felt like the locals all gathered in the old town, and the Christmas open-air concert began 🎶 Following the music, there wasn’t even an empty table at the venue~ Croatia really suits this kind of relaxed city walk 🇭🇷 You can play wherever you go without rushing to check in. Although many restaurants were closed or didn’t serve full meals during the holiday❗️ We found the simple meals we bought at the supermarket by the pier delicious, especially the roasted chicken wings!! 📝PS!! I didn’t get to go up the bell tower of St. Lawrence Cathedral or Kamerlengo Castle! That’s the downside of coming during the holidays—you can feel the strong Christmas atmosphere, but there will definitely be some regrets. 🌊 It wasn’t very cold in winter either, around 15-16 degrees Celsius at noon, with little temperature difference. There are a few tips how to make photos from the trip great! First, it should be a sunny day. No other way Second, that should be a colorful spot Third, if possible find a panoramic location to have a good view. I did so in Genova and made perfect photos on the main square, at the Old port and from the panoramic garden. My solo trip along Genova 🇮🇹
My cruise ship’s stop was long enough for a great taste of the city. I chose exploring Genova on my own instead of taking a group excursion. Here was my plan: What to see 👁️ Starting from the cruise port saved time and got me right into the city vibe. Then I moved to Porto Antico (Old Port). The city’s heart showed modern installations, the Galata Museo di Genova, and the huge Acquario di Genova. If you’re into anything maritime, this is a must-see. The walk continued to San Lorenzo Cathedral. A Gothic cathedral with a fascinating crypt. Local legends say the Holy Grail was once kept there. Via Garibaldi is a must! Short but stunning: it’s lined with about 42 palaces (Palazzi dei Rolli), a UNESCO site. Walked slowly and looked up here: the facades and reliefs are impressive. Piazza San Lorenzo. A spacious square surrounded by narrow alleys (carruggi). It’s a good spot to take a break, have a bite, and snap photos. Then I made some shopping 🛍️ and went back to the ship. The journey took about 4 hours instead of 2 hours of a group tour. #grouptourvssolotrip
The 7 a.m. Focaccia-Slice Window, Genoa Porto Antico
#travellikealocal Style: a slice of flat bread, eaten on the waterfront The window opens at seven and the tray is already cut into squares: thin focaccia, dimpled with fingertips and shiny with olive oil, sprinkled with coarse salt. Genoa's version is the original—soft inside, crisp on the bottom, and never thick. Eat it with your hands, warm, as you walk; fold it once if it's too floppy, and don't ask for anything on top. The salt is the topping. Genoa's old town is a tight grid of caruggi (narrow lanes) behind the Porto Antico, and the focaccia windows are on the streets closest to the water. Stay in the city centre, near the Via Garibaldi or the old town, and walk—Genoa is hilly but the port is flat, and the walk from the station takes about fifteen minutes down through the lanes. A slice is 2–4 euros, cash preferred. Eat it sitting on the edge of the old port, then walk through the Aquarium area and up to the Righi funicular—it's cheap and the view over the city and the sea is the best in Liguria. Afterwards, walk back through the caruggi and look up: the buildings are six storeys high on both sides and the sky is just a strip of blue. That's Genoa, and it's the reason pesto was invented here—you need something to put on all this bread.
