"The Owl is Pink – A Story of Color" (Die Eule ist pink) is the annual special exhibition at the Museum of Ethnography in Basel in 2026. Using a pink ceramic owl from Mexico as a starting point, the exhibition guides visitors to explore the rich meanings of color across different cultures. Basel Cathedral (Basler Münster) is the most iconic historical building in Basel, Switzerland, and one of the most famous landmarks along the Rhine River. Construction began in 1019, initially in the Romanesque style. Rebuilt after the 1356 Basel earthquake, it incorporated Gothic architectural elements, resulting in its distinctive appearance today: red sandstone facade, colorful glazed tile roof, and twin spires. The cathedral was once the Basel Cathedral and later became the Church of the Reformed Church of Switzerland. Inside, it preserves exquisite cloisters, crypts, and the tombstone of the famous humanist scholar Erasmus of Rotterdam. The Palatinate (Pfalz) viewpoint behind the cathedral offers panoramic views of the Rhine, the Old Town, and Petit Basel. The surrounding Münsterplatz, with its tranquil environment and many preserved medieval buildings, together with the cathedral, creates a rich historical atmosphere, allowing visitors to fully appreciate Basel's profound cultural heritage and unique charm.
