The Church of St. Merce was built in memory of St. Merce, the patron saint of Barcelona, like St. Eulalia. The church was built in 1267, and a monastery was added next to it in the 17th century. The church was restored in Baroque style. In 1835, the nuns were expelled from the convent, and the king's governors signed in. Today, the interior of this pastoral church is still magnificent.
