Furong Town, under the jurisdiction of Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Yongshun County, Hunan Province, is located in the southern part of Yongshun County. It is adjacent to Changguan Town in the east, faces Hexi Town of Guzhang County across the river in the south, borders Liexi Township in the west, and is neighboring Gaoping Township in the northwest and north, and connects with Songbai Town in the northeast. The town government is 30.1 kilometers away from Yongshun County city. The total area is 225.96 square kilometers. As of the end of 2019, Furong Town had a registered population of 34,000 people. Provincial Road 229 runs through the town, with a length of 8 kilometers within its territory. There is one county-level highway, with a total length of 45 kilometers. In 1983, the Furong Town Public Transport Company was established, with 120 bus departures per day and a daily capacity of more than 2,800 passengers. Furong Town was originally named Wangcun Town and was renamed after the filming of the movie 'Furong Town'. Within the territory of Furong Town, there are attractions such as Xizhou Copper Column, the outdoor filming site of the movie 'Furong Town', Furong Town Waterfall, Tusi Palace, and the remains of the Turen Cave dwellings. Regarding how to buy boat tickets, 3 staff members all gave different information. · In addition, historical and cultural sites such as the Tusi King's Mansion, Xizhou Copper Pillar, and Tusi Temple were all closed, it's unclear what the scenic area is thinking. ----You Shui Gallery---- · You can only buy boat tickets for You Shui Gallery, a one-way trip takes 1h to reach the Red Stone Forest, after visiting the Red Stone Forest, you can take a ferry bus back to Furong Town in 30min. · Furong Town was a city during the Qin and Han dynasties, also known as Youyang. With the help of You Shui, it was connected to Sichuan and Guizhou in the north and Dongting Lake in the south, earning the reputation of 'Chu-Shu Thoroughfare'. You can take a boat to revisit the ancient route. · If you're lucky, you can see little monkeys chasing the boats along the shore during the journey. But the scenery can become monotonous beyond that. ----Red Stone Forest---- · Worth visiting for those interested in geology. The park development is very interesting, with towering red carbonate rock formations divided into upper and lower layers for exploration, including stone forests, canyons, and caves, among other landforms. And these are just the tip of the iceberg of the once Ordovician seabed. · On the surface of the rocks in the park, and on the floor tiles, you can also see fossils of marine creatures such as hornstones. · The 60rmb guide was slacking off the whole time, the promised 1.5h tour was cut down to 40min, making for a very poor experience. · The return time of the shuttle bus was much earlier than what the scenic area staff said, 30min earlier, making it impossible to fully explore the park. ----Ticket Purchase---- · There are 3 types of tickets: 1. Furong Town ticket valid for 2 days + You Shui Gallery boat ticket + Red Stone Forest ticket · Ticket 2 is suitable for self-driving or shuttle bus; ticket 3 includes a 1h boat trip to the Red Stone Forest, and a 30min ferry bus back to Furong Town. · It is recommended to get it all at once, otherwise, it will cost much more to buy tickets later. · During the May 1st holiday, boats are only dispatched 3 times a day, you need to go to the tourist center to get the schedule in advance to avoid missing it. ----Performance---- · There are multiple performances in Furong Town every day, all free of charge. After seeing the performance in Zhangjiajie, the performances in Furong Town, whether it's the setting, choreography, or actors, are all a big step down.

I didn't expect that besides Fenghuang, Xiangxi also has such a hidden gem of an ancient town. I regret not knowing about it sooner. It's a location for many film and TV series, and even the show 'Flowers' had been here for a visit. The whole ancient town is built above a waterfall, resembling scenes from TV dramas. Getting There - Furong ancient town located in Furongzhen City （芙蓉镇). To get there you can easily take a train, railway station is located in 5 km from this sight. The place divided into two areas: inner area and outer area. Outer area is free to visit, inner area requires ticket. The ticket is valid for 3 days, and the price is 108 RMB per person. It also includes watching shows (16:00, 19:30 and 20:30) : two of them is in the same place and the third one in another. Hotels - many various places to stay in, but if you’re booking hotel with waterfall view, it means that you need to buy a ticket to the inner area as well, and taxi cannot bring you right under the entrance of your hotel (he’ll drop you off at the ticket office, and then you can call to the reception desk of your hotel and ask them to pick you up, because to find yourself the place you need is quite tricky for the first time). Food & Restaurants - at the first glance you have a big choice of restaurants (all of them Chinese cuisine obviously), but variety of foods in them not really wide. From place to place everything pretty much the same. And prices of course a bit higher than usual. No western food whatsoever (what else you’d expect, lol). One sad aspect is absence of groceries stores. All of them located behind the inner area, and if you’re not leaving near the exit, then it can be quite irritating, especially because they don’t work until 9-10 am. Not much bars in the area as well. Attractions - 1) Shows: They are free to watch for people from inner area. I didn’t see the one at 16:00, but I saw one at 19:30. It’s not usual show at the same stage all the time, first part starts behind the sitting area and then moves to the stage, after 15 minutes or so the act moves to the next stage (and the whole crowd is moving too, I can’t imagine how dangerous it is during any holiday, because I was there in November where’s no holidays, I anyway almost got injured in the crowd) which is near the first stage. After another 15-20 minutes the act moves to another stage which is in 10 minutes walking and people are racing to the next stage, some of them literally running. I didn’t want to be smashed in the crowd, so I didn’t follow to the third part. Overall impression of the show: not worth going. It might be dangerous, especially for kids. 2) Waterfall: you can get there from both inner and outer areas, there is also a path behind the waterfall, fun to walk there. 3) Road along the mountain. 4) Mmmmmmany photo studios with national costumes for rent. 5) Ferry from one riverside to another (5 minutes ride with nice overall view of the area) Shopping - variety looking alike souvenir shops, nothing special to the area itself. #freehotelstay#falltrip #historicallandmarks #localguides #mytravelhacks #furongzhen
