Jiayingguan

Jiaying Temple is located 12 kilometers southeast of Wuzhi County, Jiaozuo, Henan Province. It is commonly known as the Temple Palace and was built in the first year of Emperor Yongzheng's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1723 AD). Jiaying Temple was built by the Emperor Yongzheng to control the floods of the Yellow River and offer sacrifices to the Dragon King. It is a palace, temple and government office in one. Because its architectural style is similar to the Forbidden City and its scale is grand, it is known as the "Small Forbidden City in Henan". Jiaying Temple is a temple that records the history of controlling the Yellow River in Chinese history. It is also a well-preserved and large-scale Qing Dynasty building complex in Henan Province. There are more than 100 existing halls in the temple, all of which adopt the palace-style architectural form of the Qing Dynasty with a grand scale and rigorous structure. There is a stone inlaid in the middle of the mountain gate in front of the temple, engraved with "Jijian Jiaying Temple", which is the imperial edict written by Emperor Yongzheng. There are five running dragons, sea water, clouds and other stone carvings around the door, with exquisite skills. There are side gates on the left and right of the gate, and on both sides of the mountain gate are double-eaved hip-and-gable bell and drum towers. The axial buildings include the Imperial Monument Pavilion, the Heavenly King Hall, the Great King Hall and the Yuwang Hall. Jiaying Temple is not only a temple dedicated to the Yellow River God, but also a place to commemorate and commend the heroes who have made contributions to river management in the past dynasties. For example, Dayu, Wang Jing, Jia Rang, Lin Zexu, etc., are all sculpted into life-size wax statues and placed in the Yuwang Pavilion, the Central Hall and the East and West Halls respectively, enjoying the royal sacrifice and for people to admire.
