Volendam

Happy to visit Volendam with my family and relative! Spent a quality time walking there and taking photos along the way. One of the must visit restaurant is Restaurant De Lunch, fries are great, fish are fresh, seafood are the best. Highly recommended for first timer! Also, don’t forget the cheese, tulip, and the gigantic wooden shoe, those are significant as well, don’t forget the beautiful scenery by the seashore!

It is always great learning the cultural differences and traditional practices of different countries. That is why when I travel, I love visiting places where it gives me exposure and knowledge of that country. When I was in Volendam in Amsterdam, i had the best opportunity to learn more about the Dutch way of eating and their importance in cheesemaking. At their cheese factory, I had first hand insight into their traditional way of producing cheese and it showed us step by step how their different types of cheese were made. At the end of it, you get to taste their cheese and you may purchase their cheese if you wish to. All in all, it was educational and an eye opener. Volendam is a tiny town near Amsterdam. If you are flying to Amsterdam, leave a day to explore some towns around. It is priceless to go out of the city and fully get inmerse in the dutch culture. You can see some dutch culture in Amsterdam but not the finest charm of this place. The Netherlands is well-know because of the 3 diques that are holding the water as it is under sea level. A lot of the things that are considered typical Dutch, like wooden shoes, are things of the past. You won't see them veey often in every day life. If you do want to explore the traditions of The Netherlands, then you may visit the town of Volendam, just outside of Amsterdam. The banks of the IJsselmeer are littered with quaint little houses where you can dive into Holland's past. In some of these houses you can dress up in traditional Dutch clothes and have your pictures taken, including wooden shoes. In others you can experience how stroopwafels are made or how about a cheese tasting session? When it comes to food, you can't escape the fresh seafood on offer as Volendam is a fisherman's town.
