Napa Lake 👍🏾Lake Napa Wetlands, or Lake Napa Nature Reserve must be included in the TO-DO list of places to visit during your trip to Shangri-La. As this landmark is far from the nearest city down town, you need to arrange private transportation to get there. In my case I came with a tour so we were transported in comfortable buses everywhere. Once you arrive to this place you might want to spend an hour or so to appreciate the landscape, walk closer to the lake and take some wonderful pictures. This lake is lying in the valley of a high mountain plateau situated about 3270 m above sea level and covering 660 sq km. Don’t be surprise to see animals in the river such as horses, cows, buffaloes but don’t get too close to them. See the seaAlthough Yunnan is at the average altitude of more than 3000 metres, we went to visit a sea there. Ever wondered how is that 😛? Haha, it is again a contextual naming of water source. Napa is just a lake, but since it is of size more than a normal lake; it is referred as sea by the local people. And especially during this holiday season, you can actually see a lot of people coming here for wedding shoot. But out purpose in here is to stop by, and ride some horses 🐎. Shangri-La Napa Sea is located in the northwest of Zhongdian County, 8 kilometers away from the county seat. Napa Sea means "the lake behind the forest". Follow the Huanhu Road to Napa Sea, the terrain is flat, surrounded by mountains on three sides, more than ten rivers winding, flowing through the grassland into the Napa Sea.
Leaving the Meili Snow Mountain Scenic Area, heading towards Shangri-La, all the way are desolate landforms, making people sleepy in the car. Until the Napa Sea appeared in front of you, I suddenly woke up. I especially liked to drive on such a lake road. One side is the lake and the other is the mountain. I haven't had time to get intoxicated. Suddenly there will be village houses and yaks in front of me. It is also an attractive scenery.
The lake in Napa Sea is not big, but not small. It takes about an hour to drive around the lake for a week. If you stop to take pictures or ride a horse in the middle, it will take a half day. The abundant sunshine is definitely a beautiful half day.
The Napa Sea Huanhu Road in Shangri-La, Yunnan is very good. It has been walking along the Napa Sea. The road conditions are good and you can see a beautiful scenery.
There are ducks in the lake. The yellow roadside of the birds is a residential house. There are cattle and sheep. There are black pigs. There are horses in the tourist place. It is not good to take pictures with sheep. Maybe spring and summer are better. There is no special thing. It is quite a big circle.
The scenery of Napa Sea Huanhu Road is pleasant, and there is a continuous flow of tourists from all over the country to visit and take pictures, and the popularity is very high. There are many good places to take pictures along the Huanhu Road, but it is not easy to park, so pay attention to safety.
Worth stopping on the viewing platform (free) on the way to Shangri-la. It's quite magical during winter time as the forest around Napa lake was covered in snow.
