A piece of Karate history
This little known park is across from the famous Fukushu-en gardens. We liked it and think you will too. Stop by if: ....you are a karate history buff; you will enjoy seeing the Sensei Higaonna Kanry...
It is located along the road to the forest of the sea, and it is a landmark like a small castle gate. It's not that big, but there are gardens and tea rooms, and there is also a public toilet, so why not stop by when taking a restroom break.
Otemon, which talks about the history of the region, has a strong presence. The garden is also carefully arranged and beautiful, and the exhibitions in the cultural tradition hall are unique and interesting.
The surrounding cityscape has a taste that makes you feel the history, and when you enter the white-walled park, you will feel a very charming park with a strong presence of Otemon. At the entrance, there is a large stone monument that conveys the disaster situation of the Sakata Earthquake in 1897, and the Cultural Heritage Museum has a very attractive exhibition 々 every season. It's a relaxing place. Although it is a branch castle (?) of the Tsuruoka Shonai domain, it is a small castle town, and you can enjoy a relaxing walk.
