This is a monument on the hill of Goroda in Shionoya. (If you go from the Otaru side, you will find it on your right when you go up the slope of the road that runs from Route 5 to Route 956.) Seibun Ito grew up in Shioya, and after working as an English teacher, he worked as a novelist and translator.
Walk about 20 minutes from Shionoya Station (the number of buses is small). The stone monument that stands quietly is engraved with "Sea Sweeper". You can feel a different side of Otaru.
A literary monument from Shionoya stands on the hill of Goroda overlooking the sea along National Highway No. 5 in the Otaru Shionoya district. It was erected by friends in 1945 after Ito's death, and the monument is engraved in an expanded version of the handwriting of confidence from the collection of poetry "Winter Night" to the beginning of "Sea of the Sea".
