井波彫刻発祥の寺院

庄川温泉に行く途中の観光スポットとして八日町通り（瑞泉寺門前町）というのがるの訪ねてみた。整備された参道が続くが、ウィークデーとあってか閑散としていて人影は少ない。そのドン詰まりに瑞泉寺があった。正式名称は「真宗大谷派井波別院瑞泉寺」、ここも閑散として人影がない、とはいえ厳かに佇む山門は歴史を感じさせる迫力があった。井波彫刻発祥の寺院と言われ、各所の彫刻は井波彫刻職人の手によって飾られているそうだ...

すばらしい山門

１４世紀に開創した寺院です。その後は越中一向一揆の拠点となる等の波乱を経て、また何度も火災に見舞われながらも、本堂は明治時代の１８８５年に再建されて、現在は北陸真宗寺院最大の伽藍となっています。質素な佇まいで威厳を感じました。特に山門は素晴らしかったと思います。
