善光寺山内２５ヶ院の本坊です

　善光寺の本堂をお参りした後、本堂の南に建つ山門を出ました。山門の前には、仲見世通りが伸びています。山門を出てすぐ右手に、本坊大勧進の風格ある立派な門が建っていました。 　こちらの善光寺大勧進というお寺は、天台宗の大本山で、善光寺山内２５ヶ院の本坊です。現在、大勧進は大本願とともに善光寺の運営にあたり、住職は貫主と呼ばれ、大本願の住職の善光寺上人とともに、善光寺の住職を勤めているそうです。

本坊

山門に向かって左手にあり、放生池を渡ったところに「大勧進」の額のかかった立派な山門が見える。本坊と言うからには、お寺の事務所のようなところなのかもしれないが、人も少なくひっそりとしていた。
