Natsume Soseki Former Residence

Soseki Natsume, a great Japanese writer handed down from the book "I Am a Cat", stayed in Kumamoto for 4 years (1896-1900) and served as an English teacher at the local fifth high school (now Kumamoto University). Natsume Soseki has moved to Kumamoto six times. The former residence of Utsuboi is his fifth residence in Kumamoto. Because it is the birthplace of his eldest daughter and a residence where he lived in Kumamoto for a long time, it has become a memorial hall of Natsume Soseki. The buildings in the museum are well preserved, and even the well used for bathing when the eldest daughter Bizi was born is said to have maintained the style of the past. In addition to exhibiting Natsume Soseki's biographical materials and manuscripts, there are also many movies or TV series filming his life in the former residence. In the corner of the Japanese room, there are also Natsume Soseki and the protagonist of his novel, the cat doll.
