Dongji Island is located on the east side of the Zhoushan Archipelago. It boasts rustic fishing village charm, where you can watch the sunrise, savor seafood, and enjoy sea fishing, making it ideal for a vacation with family and friends. Director Han Han's film "The Continent" was filmed here, bringing this mysterious island at the easternmost tip of the country into public view. The saying "Dongji Island" is actually a collective term, consisting of 4 inhabited islands and many uninhabited islets. Miaozihu Island, the main island, is where the local government is located. To its west is Huangxing Island, which is almost uninhabited, has no ferry service, and is rarely visited by tourists. To its east is Qingbang Island, known by locals as the "Potala Palace on the Sea" because its buildings are built into the mountains, making it ideal for viewing from a distance. Dongfushan Island is the first place in China to see the sunrise over the sea, making it a preferred spot for many to watch the sunrise.Zhoushan · 52.5km from downtown

A fisherman painting wall can be seen on the island. It is worth mentioning that there is a post office on Miaozihu Island, where you can buy postcards and send them to your family and friends from the east of China. This can be a meaningful event. Dinghai Ancient City

Dinghai Ancient City is a thousand-year-old ancient city with a long history and many historical sites. It is also a famous island cultural city in China. The ancient city once preserved the historical blocks of Zhongdajie, Xidajie, Dongdajie, Chaishuinong, Liufang Road and other historical blocks from the Ming and Qing Dynasties. There are many ancient monuments scattered around, leaving the footprints of talented people and celebrities from past dynasties. Historically, this place has always been a military fortress. In addition to the war against the British, there are also a number of historical relics of the war against the Japanese and the Qing Dynasty.      Dinghai is a gathering place of talents, and nearly 100 celebrities such as Zhu Baoshan, Liu Hongsheng, and Dong Haoyun have emerged in history. Zhongxi Street: It is a very famous old street in Dinghai. The growth process of Dinghai, a famous historical and cultural city, is remembered in the body of the old street. The old street is not wide, with layers of old houses on both sides, and century-old shops lined up one by one. The slightly curved old street seems to have no end, like a girl bending down charmingly when she can't help laughing, full of charm, and the stone road full of footprints of generations of ancestors is still so clean and appropriate. Ming and Qing Historical Street: Dinghai's West Street and Middle Street were commercial streets in the late Qing Dynasty. The street was 4 or 5 meters wide, which was considered a real commercial street at that time. There are two-story wooden fire-proof walls, and the eaves corridor on the second floor was a place to overlook the prosperous scenery of the street. Zuyin Temple: Located on Changguo Road, Dinghai, it is known as the "First Ancient Zen Forest in Wengzhou", covering an area of nearly 10,000 square meters. It was first built in the fifth year of Tianfu in the Later Jin Dynasty. Later, it was renovated several times to form a large Buddhist temple on Zhoushan Island. Late Qing Dynasty mansions: Dinghai Liufang Lane, Shuyuan Lane, Chaishui Lane, Dongguanmiao Lane, West Street, Changguo Road area, there are many former residences with peculiar shapes such as Lan Li's former residence, Dong Haoyun's former residence, Liu Hongsheng's former residence, etc. The brackets, gates, halls, doors and windows, and caissons here are all unique.Zhoushan · 10.2km from downtown

Dongfushan Island

4.6/5
197 reviews
Dongfushan Island is located at the eastern end of the Zhoushan Archipelago. Compared to the bustlingMiaozihu Island, it offers more enchanting mountain and sea scenery and a more authentic fishing village atmosphere. It is also a great place to watch the sunrise. Dongfushan Island is not large, but due to limited ferry schedules, you should plan to stay on the island for at least one night. You will typically arrive around noon, and after settling your accommodation and lunch, you can start exploring with light luggage. The next morning, wake up to watch the sunrise over the sea in the eastern part of the country. After a short rest, take a ferry to continue exploringMiaozihu Islandbefore your return. The journey to Dongfushan Island is a bit winding, but well worth it. You need to take a boat from Shenjiamen Banshengdong Pier toMiaozihu Island, then transfer to a smaller boat (approx. 30 minutes, CNY 30/person). Along the way, you can clearly feel the change in scenery as the seawater gradually turns from murky to blue. Even more interestingly, you can see a distinct boundary line in the color of the seawater. When you disembark, many suppliers will be at the pier to meet guests and solicit business. Most guesthouses on the island are a 5–15 minute walk from the pier. We recommend staying at a guesthouse that is close to the sea and situated on higher ground for a better view, allowing you to see the ocean from your room. The area near the Sunshine Observatory by the pier is a great spot to watch the sunrise. The sunrise over the sea is accompanied by the lighthouse on the reef. In the distance is Xifushan (Sea Reclining Buddha), and closer by, with lights, are Qingbang Island andMiaozihu Island, creating a spectacular view. There is a tent area near the observation point where you can bring your own tent for camping. There is currently no public transportation on the island. Except for a winding concrete road leading to the military unit at the mountaintop, most other paths are stone mountain trails, so exploring is primarily done on foot. Of course, you can enjoy seafood, stroll through the fishing village, and watch the waves crash against the shore. This is truly a place worth hiking around. It is a "stone island," and you can see many abandoned stone houses everywhere, which are a unique sight on the island in addition to the sea views. Hiking is roughly divided into two routes. The first is to hike up along the concrete road. After about 40 minutes, you will pass a small pavilion. Continue upward for approx. 5 minutes to reach the White Clouds Stone Cave. Take the small stone path next to it and descend for about 5 minutes to reach White Clouds Palace. Continue down the stone path for 30 minutes to arrive at Elephant Trunk Peak at the eastern end of the island, where the scenery is spectacular. The entire round trip takes approx. 4 hours. The other route is more relaxed. In the opposite direction of the concrete road, follow the path in front ofYunwu Hotelalong the sea to the north. In about 30 minutes, you will reach theDashuwan Stone Houses Group. Continue walking for about 15 minutes to arrive at the Baodao Cave, which locals call the "Hidden Soldier Cave." The scenery nearby is also very beautiful. This round trip takes approx. 2 hours. Sea fishing is also one of the joys of visiting Dongfushan Island. Most amateur anglers rent fishing rods to fish from the pier or rocks. Sea fishing enthusiasts charter boats to go out to sea; hiring a small boat to go to the Four Sisters Islands costs CNY 2,000–3,000. However, catching seafood is not as easy as you might imagine. If you are an angler without relevant knowledge, it is better to just eat seafood at a local fishing family's home. If you have a small catch, you can pay a processing fee to have a shop prepare it for you. If you don't know how to fish at all, you can go to the beach at low tide in the evening to pick up snails and catch crabs, which is also quite fun.Zhoushan · 56.6km from downtown

The Dongya Cliff is located at the eastern end of the Songshan Island, and the cliffs stretch into the sea. The cliffs are full of spectacular waves. The sunrise here is beautiful. At 4 or 5 in the morning, the red sun rises from the sea. The golden sun shines on the sea, and the beauty is very moving. Nowadays, a cliff walk is built on the Dongya Cliff. Visitors can walk up to the heights of the cliff and look out at the sea and the mussel culture area. Along the way, you can see various types of houses featured on the island, scattered fishing boats at sea, and sometimes encounter local residents fishing on reefs and harvesting Baker.Shengsi · 36.9km from downtown

We arrived at Dongji Island without any prior planning. Although tickets were indeed scarce during the holidays, we managed to get there smoothly with the help of the guesthouse owner. Since we weren't planning ahead, we were a bit lost, but the guesthouse owner and the young man who helped us were crucial. We watched the sunrise and sunset and visited the famous lighthouse (most importantly, it's only about a 15-minute walk from the guesthouse location to the lighthouse), completely avoiding the need for the sightseeing bus, saving us only 80 yuan round trip. The guesthouse has an outdoor balcony with fantastic sunset views and an exceptionally bright sunrise. Service: I found it very attentive, with bag-carrying service, travel guides, and various tips to avoid tourist pitfalls – practically perfect. Environment: Away from the hustle and bustle, but not far from the attractions, making it quiet and comfortable to sleep at night. Value for Money: Prices are definitely higher during holidays, but it's still quite good. The location is convenient for visiting attractions, but it's unrealistic to expect to walk at all. Overall: A very affordable guesthouse, but if you have higher expectations, it depends entirely on your personal preferences.

The scenery is pretty good, but the taxis on the island are too expensive, costing 30 to 59 yuan for a short distance. I recommend self-driving, putting your luggage directly in the car and then driving on the boat.

The experience on Peach Blossom Island in Zhoushan exceeded my expectations! The boat trip to the island was incredibly atmospheric, with the azure sea on one side and verdant mountains on the other. From the unique rock formations and seascapes of Peach Blossom Village, to the immersive martial arts scenes of the Legend of the Condor Heroes Film City, to the golden sands of Tawan Beach for strolling and enjoying the sea, every spot is perfect for taking photos. The island has a relaxed pace, free from excessive commercialization, making it ideal for a relaxing vacation, enjoying the sea breeze and the island's charm. A fantastic experience, highly recommended!

Head to Gouqi Island in the East China Sea and encounter a crystal-clear blue ocean. Arrive by boat, the sea breeze carrying a salty scent that washes away all worries. Stroll along Dawang Beach, where soft golden sand accompanies the clear waves, making it a delightful experience to wade and collect seashells. Climb to the top for panoramic views of the mountains and sea, dotted with buoys from the sea ranches and fishing boats leisurely navigating the water. There are also deserted villages enveloped in greenery, their stone houses hidden among vines, like a real-life version of The Wizard of Oz. From sunrise to sunset, watch the sunset paint the sea red, and in the slow-paced island life, fully enjoy the mountains, the sea, and the evening breeze.

Fayu Temple offers free incense and is very close to Qianbu Beach. You can take a shuttle bus from the pier to Fayu Temple first, then walk to Qianbu Beach to watch the sunset! Baibu Beach is a bit of a distance away, but it's a filming location for Journey to the West!

Miaozihu Island is really beautiful, and it was really thrilling to grab the last two boat tickets to the island at 5 a.m. Personally, I think Miaozihu Island is the most playable among the Dongji Islands. There is a tour bus around the island. You can get off the bus to play and take pictures at the scenic spots, which really saves a lot of time. It is 88 yuan per person, and children are half price. There are buses before 5:30, so everyone should pay attention to the time when playing. There are quite a lot of stalls on the island. It is recommended to walk around more. We went to the Dongji Seafood Stall, which is uphill after we came out of the pier. There are four storefronts. We were ripped off. Everyone should avoid the pit.

【Dinghai Ancient City】Located in the central and western part of Zhoushan Archipelago New Area, it is a thousand-year-old ancient city with a long history and many historical sites. It is also the only famous island cultural city in China. Dinghai Ancient City is surrounded by mountains and faces the sea. During the Song and Yuan Dynasties, it was a transit point on the Maritime Silk Road. In the middle of the Qing Dynasty, the court set up a customs in the city, and a large number of bulk commodities such as silk, tea, and porcelain that came down the river were exported to the world. There are many ancient monuments scattered in the ancient city, leaving the footprints of talented people and celebrities from all dynasties. Among them, Zhongxi Street is the most famous old street in Dinghai. The old street is not wide, with layers of old houses on both sides, and one century-old store after another. The slightly curved old street seems to be endless, and the stone slabs full of footprints of generations of ancestors remember the long history.

The most beautiful and interesting island in Dongji Island. It is slightly more comfortable than traditional mountain climbing. There is a section of the road that is mountain climbing. It is recommended to walk in the opposite direction (starting from Furudonghai Stone) to be easier! Compared with the traditional tropical rainforest, the path on this island is very comfortable (it is best to wear long pants, there is more grass on both sides of the road). The scenery is really beautiful. Find a good B&B to stay for one night. The whole journey takes about 5-6 hours while taking pictures.

A taxi ride from Shengshan to the abandoned village costs 30 yuan. There are many steps leading downhill, and the abandoned houses and paths are overgrown with weeds. In summer, it's best to wear long pants to avoid mosquito bites. The journey there is easy, but climbing back up the steps is a bit tiring; older people should proceed with caution. The abandoned houses are scattered across the mountainside in a pleasing, irregular pattern, covered in lush greenery, and are quite extensive.

I have to review this. Buying online is very convenient. Getting up early to watch the sunrise meant no need to queue; just scan the code to enter. This made it easy to secure a good spot. After watching the sunrise, remember to check out the Sky Ladder!
