Yangjiatang Village is hidden among the mountains of Sandu Township, Songyang County. The entire village faces west, situated on a steep and narrow hillside. More than 20 Qing Dynasty residences with timber-earth structures are arranged up the slope, with a vertical drop of several m. From a distance, it looks like a massive building facade covering the hillside, with the rammed earth walls glowing warm gold in the sunlight. At its center is the Song Ancestral Hall, first built during the Qianlong era. Old buildings like the Dide School and the rice-pounding workshop are arranged around it, with layers of horse-head walls facing each other. The beams, pillars, doors, windows, and corbels and brackets are covered with wood carvings of auspicious patterns. The rammed earth walls of every household are inscribed with sentences from "Zhu Zi's Family Maxims," the "Classic of Filial Piety," and the Song family precepts, interspersed with murals. Although weathered after hundreds of years, one can still read the family tradition of valuing culture and education here. From afternoon to evening, the setting sun shines directly on the layered rammed earth walls, covering the entire village in a warm golden hue. Walking up the stone steps from the old camphor tree at the village entrance, if you turn back as you walk, you can see different village facades from different heights.Songyang · 6.5km from downtown

Chenjiapu Village is hidden in the mountains of Lishui, Songyang. It is situated on a steep hillside, surrounded by mountains on three sides and facing a valley on one. Old houses built with rammed earth, timber, and stone are layered up the slope following the terrain, forming a typical cliff-dwelling terraced layout. From a distance, it looks like it grew out of the cliff. When the weather is clear, the view is expansive, allowing you to overlook the valley below, and the distant Songyang county seat is faintly visible. In the early morning, clouds and mist often rise from the valley floor, with houses appearing and disappearing in the sea of clouds, a scene that many photography enthusiasts wait specifically to capture. The Avant-Garde Bookstore, Pingmin Bookstore, renovated from an old cultural auditorium, is often called the bookstore on the cliff by tourists and is a must-visit spot after entering the village. The Bao Ancestral Hall, ancient trees, and old residences and paths preserve the original appearance of the clan village.Songyang · 8.6km from downtown

Songyang Ming and Qing Street is located in Xiping Town, the county seat. The ancient street is more than 300 meters long. Both sides of the street are two-story buildings with wooden structures. It is an old building left in the Ming and Qing Dynasties and has a strong historical and cultural atmosphere. It is said that since the Tang Dynasty, a street in Ming and Qing Dynasties has been Songyang Commercial and Trade Zone, known as Wuli Long Street. Despite the vicissitudes of life and the vicissitudes of life, the ancient street is still the same, open to the north and south, surrounded by the morning and evening here and the trivial life of people, day after day. On both sides of the street, the mud-wood structure buildings are winding away, just like the contemporary "Qingming Riverside Map". The ancient block of Ming and Qing Dynasties is an area with a long history and profound cultural accumulation in Songyang County. It retains rich Ming and Qing architectural styles and agricultural cultural relics. These residential shops are all Ming and Qing styles, and the rows are eroded by historical wind and rain. The mottled but charming neighborhood is a very unique and attractive cultural landscape, and it is a rare historical and cultural street in the province.Songyang · 697m from downtown

Songzhuang Village is hidden deep within the folds of the mountains in Songyang, Lishui. A stream winds through the village in an S-shape, and two stone arch bridges, built with creek stones without mortar, span the water. They have withstood the elements and remain stable, now serving as the village's landmark. The water under the bridges is shallow and clear, and occasionally, elderly residents can be seen leading cattle or carrying loads as they walk up the steps. With a click of the shutter, you capture a scene of a traditional Jiangnan village. Along both banks of the stream, old houses with mud walls and gray tiles are scattered against the mountainside, with the Ye Ancestral Hall, Song Ancestral Hall, stilt houses, and ancient post roads interspersed among them. The surrounding area is filled with continuous bamboo forests, and there are stretches of peach orchards in the mountains. Villagers still use traditional earthen stoves for cooking and go to the stream to wash clothes and vegetables in their daily lives. Walking into this place, time clearly slows down.Songyang · 9.1km from downtown

Ancient Weir Home of Painting

7.5
4.6/5
7k reviews
The Ancient Weir Home of Painting is located on the banks of the Oujiang River in Lishui, Zhejiang. It consists of two major areas facing each other across the river: one side is the "Ancient Weir" where Yantou Village is located, and the other is the "Home of Painting" where Dagangtou Town is situated. The two sides are connected by cruise boats, with the journey taking about 10 minutes. Enjoying the scenic views of the Oujiang River from the boat is itself a highlight of this itinerary. On one side of "Ancient Weir" stands the Tongji Weir, the protagonist built during the Southern Dynasties and operating for over 1,500 years: the arched dam lies across the Songyin Stream, diverting water into canals that traverse the Bihu Plain, still irrigating tens of thousands of acres of fertile farmland today. Together with the Tongji Sluice, the Three-Cave Stone Culvert, and the Ye Channel, it forms a complete ancient water conservancy system. Among them, the Three-Cave Stone Culvert allows the canal and mountain stream to flow separately at different levels, vividly dubbed the ancient "overwater interchange." Stone inscriptions from various dynasties, including the "Tongji Weir Regulations" established by Fan Chengda during the Southern Song Dynasty when he served as the prefect of Chuzhou, still stand beside the weir. Within Yantou Village, the camphor trees planted to stabilize the dam have grown into clusters of thousand-year-old ancient camphors. Walking along the cobblestone country path, the Wenchang Pavilion from the Jiaqing era of the Qing Dynasty, ancient streets, pavilions, and celadon kiln sites are scattered throughout. The "painting village" on the opposite bank has a distinct character: Around the 1980s, artists from various regions gathered in Dagangtou to sketch by the river, gradually forming an oil painting community known as the "Lishui Barbizon." Today, the old riverside street in the town is lined with galleries and art sketching bases. On clear days, you can often see rows of students painting by the Oujiang River with their easels. It's recommended to explore both riverbanks during your visit: take a boat across the river to see the ancient weir, then return to the painting village's old street. The sunset over the Oujiang River is a signature scene here, with occasional white sails gliding by—a sight many photography enthusiasts wait patiently to capture.Lishui · 30.3km from Songyang

Niutou Mountain National Forest Park

Niutou Mountain National Forest Park

4.6/5

Niutou Mountain National Forest Park is located 60 km outside Wuyi. Known as the "Little Jiuzhaigou of Jiangnan," it features steep cliffs, streams, and emerald pools, offering some scenic charm—though it falls slightly short compared to Jiuzhaigou. Due to limited public transport, most visitors arrive by car, so crowds are never too large. From the main gate to the core scenic area is about a 5 km drive. Visitors can drive to the parking lot at the mountain base, or take one of the three daily free shuttle buses running round-trip between the main gate and the parking lot. Nearby the parking lot are a restaurant and Shanli Renjia Hotel, while the hot spring hotel near the entrance offers better amenities, including hot spring baths—ideal for an overnight stay if time allows. To the left of the parking lot is the trail leading to Wangniufeng Peak in the back mountain. If arriving in the afternoon and staying overnight, consider hiking here, soaking in the hot springs at night, and exploring the main attractions the next day: heading right to Shimen Gorge entrance, climbing Tianshi Peak, visiting Tianshi Temple, and crossing the Golden Lock Bridge. From Shimen Gorge entrance past Yuxian Lake to Qixi Bridge, the path is mostly straightforward, with clear pools and streams along the way, making for a pleasant walk. Beyond Qixi Bridge is a fork—both routes lead up to Tianshi Peak and Tianshi Temple, with one for ascending and the other descending. The left path features a thrilling cliffside boardwalk leading to the Golden Lock Bridge. Continuing past a narrow cliff passage ("One-Line Sky") brings you to the peak and Tianshi Temple. The boardwalk clings dramatically to the mountainside, offering sweeping views of the Golden Lock Bridge spanning two cliffs and the imposing Tianshi Peak—a spectacular photo spot. Though the bridge looks daunting, it's sturdy and safe to cross. The steep One-Line Sky climb is challenging, but the panoramic summit views make it worthwhile. Tianshi Temple at the top allows for blessings (possibly at an extra fee). The ascent takes about 2 hours and is tiring, but the descent is gentler, taking just over an hour back to Qixi Bridge. Restrooms are available on the mountain, but shops are scarce, so bring water and snacks. Near the park entrance, Shenniu Gorge Rafting (¥128/person, for reference) is a thrilling summer activity—3 km of fast-flowing rapids through deep gorges. Rafting usually starts around 1 PM, so it's best to hike in the morning and raft in the afternoon.Wuyi · 24.3km from Songyang
