Taoyangli Historical and Cultural District

Taoyangli Historical and Cultural District is located in the heart of Jingdezhen's old town, a historic neighborhood that grew around the ruins of the imperial kiln from the Ming and Qing dynasties. The old saying "Taoyang thirteen li, with tens of thousands of households" refers to this area. The imperial porcelain used by the royal families of the Ming and Qing dynasties was exclusively produced by the imperial kiln here, while rejected tribute items were shattered and buried on-site. The layers of underground porcelain fragments share the same origin as the collections in the Palace Museum, making this place often referred to as the key to understanding the porcelain capital. The core attractions of the district are concentrated around the ruins of the Taoyangli Historical and Cultural District and the imperial kiln museum. The ruins of the Taoyangli Historical and Cultural District have now been transformed into an archaeological site park, preserving relics such as kilns and workshops. The Longzhu pavilion, perched atop Zhushan hill, has been the iconic structure of the imperial kiln since the Ming dynasty and later became the symbol of Jingdezhen. The Zhushan hill beneath it was formed by layers of discarded porcelain fragments from imperial kilns throughout history. Nearby, the imperial kiln museum draws inspiration from traditional egg-shaped wood-fired kilns, featuring multiple brick arches arranged in a staggered layout. Many exhibits in the museum are restored from porcelain fragments unearthed at the site, including the Ming dynasty blue-and-white dragon jar—a signature exhibit pieced together from tons of discarded dragon jar fragments. Adjacent to the museum, the Xu family kiln, an old wood-fired kiln, still operates periodic firings. During kiln openings, the gate is wide open, allowing visitors to watch artisans retrieve freshly fired porcelain from saggars. The district also features winding alleyways lined with kiln-brick residences, guild halls, porcelain shops, and remnants of modern ceramic industry. The restored South goods street and Red shop street now host old teahouses, taverns, music bars, and craft workshops where you can observe traditional processes like clay throwing and porcelain painting, with some workshops offering hands-on experiences. It's recommended to set aside half a day for the visit—start with the kiln site and museum, then meander through the streets around Zhongshan north road and Longgang lane, where many historic courtyard houses hidden in deep alleys await patient discovery.Jingdezhen · 4km from downtown

Thank you, Ms. Yu, for your professional, meticulous, and engaging lecture. In just two hours, we learned about the history of porcelain development from the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, as well as the Republic of China and the founding of the People's Republic of China, and appreciated exquisite porcelain pieces from each dynasty. Furthermore, Ms. Yu used her extensive professional knowledge to introduce various methods for identifying the age, type, use, style, and quality of porcelain, opening a new world for us. She even thoughtfully reminded us of the precautions for taking photos with the Silent Buddha. Her lecture was truly sincere and packed with valuable information. This trip was incredibly rewarding and I'm full of energy! 🥰

It's pretty good. Compared to Taoyangli and Taoxichuan, it's not too crowded. The main attractions are several ancient kiln sites, and a few people demonstrating the porcelain-making process in the workshops, allowing for close-up observation and interaction. There's also a porcelain music performance.

Mr. Wang's explanation was very clear and accurate, which gave me a deeper understanding of the imperial kiln ceramic culture of Jingdezhen. He was also very responsible, meticulous and thoughtful in his work. I will definitely visit Jingdezhen again to learn more about ceramic culture and listen to Mr. Wang's explanation again!

Hike through Wanghu Ecological Park to witness the breathtaking Nanshan Waterfall and experience its awe-inspiring cascade. Water mist blankets your clothes, the valley roars, and the mountains exude a natural grandeur. The murmuring streams and clear springs among the rocks offer a glimpse into the slow pace of life in the mountains.

There's not much to do. Just enjoy the scenery, take some photos, and check off some sites. But the scenery is really nice. The museum is mostly made up of broken porcelain pieces; there aren't many complete pieces. Spending over fifty yuan isn't very worthwhile. It's just paying for a photo backdrop.

☘️The hotel receptionist suggested visiting the sculpture porcelain factory if I wanted to buy souvenirs. So after breakfast, I took a bus there. ☘️I hoped to explore before it got too crowded, but I arrived too early. Many studios and shops were closed, creating a quiet and deserted atmosphere. However, this gave me a unique strolling experience, so I slowed down and leisurely wandered among the stalls that were already open. ☘️The stalls here weren't as solemn as those in museums; instead, they were full of lively atmosphere and vibrant creativity. What attracted my attention most were the rows of miniature blue and white porcelain pieces. Neatly arranged on shelves, they were crafted into various small bottles and jars, some round like pearls, others slender and elongated. Each piece is exquisitely crafted and adorable, its glaze gleaming warmly in the morning light, pleasing to the eye and making you want to take them all home. ☘️Besides traditional porcelain, the modern creative ornaments here are incredibly diverse and dazzling. The shelves are crammed with all sorts of uniquely shaped trinkets: adorable animal porcelain sculptures, colorful abstract figures, and many figurines and cartoon characters incorporating popular elements. These works are unconventional, full of youthful imagination, making it impossible not to stop and admire them. ☘️Passing through the porcelain section, the roadside jewelry stalls are equally captivating. Colorful glass beads and crystal-clear gems are strung into various bracelets and pendants. Picking up a string and holding it in your palm, the beads are round and smooth, the colors refreshing, possessing both traditional classical charm and modern fashion sense; each little accessory reveals the artisan's ingenuity. ☘️Although the time spent at the sculpture porcelain factory was short and I wasn't able to visit all the shops, the unique tranquility of the early morning, coupled with the exquisite and creative displays before me, made me feel very comfortable and reluctant to leave.
