Mount Coot-Tha Summit Lookout

4.5/5
36 reviews

Mount Coot-Tha Summit Lookout is located at the summit of Mount Coot-Tha, west of the Brisbane city center, at an elevation of over 200 m, and is a classic spot for overlooking the city. The name "Mount Coot-Tha" originates from the local Indigenous language and means "place of honey." In the early years, it was also called "One Tree Hill" because of a single tree left standing at the summit. Since it was designated as a public recreation area in the late 19th century, it has been a popular spot for Brisbane residents to relax and enjoy the view. The lookout offers expansive views, with the winding Brisbane River flowing through the city, and the city center skyline and Story Bridge in full view. On clear days, the view extends all the way to Moreton Bay, where islands such as Stradbroke Island are clearly visible. The evening is a particularly charming time here, as the sunset glow illuminates the city and the bay, and after dark, the lights of the high-rises gradually turn on, making it a romantic moment to enjoy the night view of Brisbane. The summit features a café and a souvenir shop, where you can take a break after sightseeing. A mountain road leads directly to the summit, where the distinctive Brisbane radio and television transmission towers are located. If you have enough time, the Brisbane Botanic Gardens and the planetarium at the foot of the mountain are also worth a visit.

Moreton Island

Moreton Island lies off the southeast coast of Queensland, Australia, across Moreton Bay from Brisbane. It is the 3rd largest sand island in the world, and the vast majority of the island is designated as a national park. Because wild dolphins swim near the shore all year round, it has an affectionate nickname among Chinese-speaking tourists—"Dolphin Island." The Tangalooma resort on the west side of the island is named after the local language, meaning "place where fish gather," a name that still holds true today: at sunset, wild bottlenose dolphins swim to the jetty, following the lights, to wait for feeding. Resort guests can hand-feed the fish under the guidance of staff, and it is just as moving for onlookers standing on the jetty. In the morning, pelicans and cormorants arrive on the beach right on time to beg for breakfast. Beneath the water to the north of the resort lies a row of shipwrecks. These old ships, which were sunk successively in the last century, are now covered in coral and teeming with fish, making them a natural paradise for snorkeling enthusiasts. Interestingly, the site of the resort was once a whaling station, and the platform used to process whales back then still remains between the beach and the guest rooms. Every year, humpback whales migrate along the east coast of Australia and pass by the northern tip of the island; if you go out to sea, you have a chance to see them breaching and spouting water. Cape Moreton Lighthouse, at the northern end of the island, is one of the oldest surviving lighthouses in Queensland. The Blue Lagoon, surrounded by sand dunes, is a natural freshwater lake with crystal-clear water. It offers a quiet contrast to the vast ocean beach stretching along the east side of the island, each with its own unique charm. The island's signature experience is sandboarding: the interior of the sand island hides vast, exposed sand dunes. You need to transfer to a large 4WD vehicle and bump along deep ruts to reach them. Then, place the board under you, hold on tight, and dive down from the top of the steep sand slope, with sand waves hitting your face and a great sense of speed. You can reach the island in just over an hour by high-speed ferry from Brisbane. Activities such as snorkeling, scuba diving, sea fishing, sailing, and bushwalking are all available. It is worth setting aside 1 or 2 days to slowly experience the wild charm of this island, which is made almost entirely of sand.

South Bank Parklands

428 reviews

South Bank Parklands is located on the south bank of the Brisbane River, facing the city center across the river. It is a linear waterfront park stretching along the river, converted from the site of the 1988 World Expo. A major highlight here is that a beach has been brought directly into the city center. Streets Beach features an artificial beach and swimming pool. The white sand, blue water, and the skyline formed by office buildings on the opposite bank create a unique view, which is quite rare in an Australian city center. You can swim here when the weather is warm. The Grand Arbour in the park stretches for approx. 1 km, with steel frames covered in purple bougainvillea. It is a highly popular photo spot. The Rainforest Walk is hidden in the bustling city, lined with lush greenery. The Nepal Peace Pagoda is an original wooden pavilion left over from the World Expo. Its three-story structure was transported in its entirety from Nepal and is worth a special visit. Public barbecue grills are available on the lawns, and many locals bring ingredients for picnics. On weekends, Stanley Street Plaza often hosts markets, and you might encounter street performances at any time. The Wheel of Brisbane stands in the park, offering a bird's-eye view of the river and the city skyline. The riverside path is suitable for walking or cycling, and you can also take a water bus or cruise to enjoy the scenery on both banks from the river.

Surrounded by lush greenery, the park is home to hundreds of koalas lazily lounging in eucalyptus trees, a truly adorable sight. The open lawns offer opportunities to feed gentle kangaroos up close and learn about other Australian native animals such as platypuses and wombats. The performances are well-organized and informative, combining educational content with conservation efforts. The clean and comfortable environment makes for a relaxed atmosphere, perfect for a leisurely stroll and an immersive experience of Australian wildlife.

My biggest takeaway from this trip to the Australia Zoo is: arrive early, or you'll definitely miss the 1:30 pm crocodile show! The Crocoseum area is very crowded, so it's best to arrive at least half an hour early to secure a good spot. The crocodile show is spectacular, and the zookeepers' explanations are excellent. Seeing the crocodiles up close is incredibly impressive; missing it would be a real shame. The kangaroo experience is also a big plus. You can walk into the kangaroo enclosure, get up close to the kangaroos, squat down to gently feed them, and take photos. They are mostly very docile. However, please follow the park rules: don't chase or try to hold them.

The lookout is very close to the Mount Coot-tha Botanical Gardens. You can take a bus from downtown Brisbane to the botanical gardens, and then take a shuttle bus from the botanical gardens to the lookout. You can overlook the entire city and have a cup of coffee there.

Climbing the Story Bridge is a unique memory for children in Brisbane. Traveling is a great way to broaden children's horizons. During the journey, children can develop self-care skills, the ability to respond in emergencies, and the ability to empathize with fellow travelers.

Because there are many wild dolphins, Moreton Island is also called "Dolphin Island". It is located on the southeast coast of Brisbane and is the third largest sand island in the world. The beauty here is extraordinary, and even Jay Chou spent his honeymoon here. In 2006, Moreton Island won the honor of "Australia's Purest Beach". There is also the world's highest sand dune Tempest here. 2. The island is full of rippling blue waves, silver sand, and swaying brown shadows. It can be said that the environment is very beautiful. There are not many people, and the natural environment is particularly superior. Whales, dolphins, and seabirds can be seen everywhere. What is fun on Muna Island? Feeding dolphins: In the evening, wild dolphins will habitually swim to the pier and wait for tourists to feed them. 2 Sand skiing: Slide down from Tempest, the highest sand dune in the inland of Moreton Island, and experience the excitement of rushing down from the high sand dunes. ③ Marine activities: There are many entertainment activities such as helicopter sightseeing, paragliding, and surfing. 4 Snorkeling: Take a diving trip near the shipwreck on Moreton Island. Get up close and personal with colorful fish, corals and other marine life in the clear water.

Fangchenggang's Sunshine Coast is located next to Beibu Gulf Avenue. It is almost entirely filled with high-rise buildings. From the higher floors you can see the beautiful sea view opposite. In the evening, there are many people doing fitness and leisure sports along the beach. I like it very much.

It is a very nice place to chill around, especially on the weekend. There are also restaurants by the river where you could grab a drink and enjoy your day.
