New Harbor

4.6/5
412 reviews
New Harbor is a 17th-century canal district that retains its historic charm to this day. Colorful old townhouses and historic mansions line both sides of the canal, their vibrant facades reflecting on the water, creating a striking contrast in architectural styles. The north side is bustling with numerous bars and restaurants, making it perfect for casual gatherings, while the south side is relatively quiet. Both sides offer unique charm for photography. Several historic wooden ships are moored in the canal year-round and can be viewed up close. The fairy tale author Hans Christian Andersen once lived here, and a commemorative plaque in the district records this history. Taking a canal cruise from here is a classic way to experience the charm of the city's waterways. You can explore by walking along the canal or by taking a boat to admire the architecture from the water.Copenhagen · 27.2km from Malmo

Amalienborg Palace

Amalienborg is where the Danish royal family lives. During the reign of Christian VII in 1794, a fire broke out in Christiansborg, forcing the royal family to relocate to Amalienborg for refuge. Later, Frederick V decided to build it into a Rococo style building, so Amalienborg, which was originally four aristocratic mansions, became a magnificent palace. In honor of the king, an equestrian statue of Frederick V was built, which stands in the center of the Octagon at the Royal Palace. The four old buildings are the Palace of Christian VII built in 1754, which is now the reception hall of the royal family, the Palace of Christian VIII, the Palace of Christian IX completed in 1758, and the Philippine residence where Queen Ingrid lived. The Palace of Theresa VIII. Christian VIII's palace was officially opened in 1994, displaying objects used by the royal family until 1947. When the Queen of Denmark is in the palace, the national flag will be raised on the roof. At that time, you can know whether the Queen is in the palace in front of you. Maybe, she is quietly looking at the square with a telescope. Oh crowd. The Royal Band will depart from the palace at 11:30 in the morning and return to the palace after detouring around the old city, and will perform the changing of the guard ceremony on the square at 12:00. Don't miss out on such a special program.Copenhagen · 27.2km from Malmo
Oresund Strait

Oresund Strait

12 reviews
The Øresund Strait on the west side of Skåne Province in Sweden is an important waterway from the Baltic Sea to the Atlantic Ocean, connecting Zealand Island in Denmark and Skåne Province in Sweden. It is about 110 kilometers long and has a water depth of 28 meters in some parts. As one of the most strategic shipping channels in Northern Europe, the strait has an average of more than 100 ships passing through it every day, making it one of the busiest international waterways in the world. On both sides of the strait are located Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, and Malmö, the third largest city in Sweden. The two cities are connected by land through the Øresund Bridge. The natural landscape of the strait presents diverse charms. The west bank of Skåne Province has a pastoral scenery of gentle hills, golden rapeseed fields and white sandy beaches. Waterfalls splash when the snow melts in spring, colorful forests reflect the blue waves in autumn, and frozen lakes and snow-capped mountains shine in winter. Historical port cities such as Helsingborg are distributed along the coast, preserving cultural heritage such as stone churches. As the natural boundary between Skåne and Denmark, the Øresund Strait not only carries more than 40% of the maritime trade in Northern Europe, but also maintains the bird migration routes and marine biodiversity on both sides through ecological corridors. It is a model of the integration of nature and humanity.Malmo · 0m from downtown

The Øresund Bridge spans the Øresund Strait, connecting Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, and Malmö, the Swedish city. The Øresund Bridge consists of two parts: a cable-stayed sea-crossing bridge and an undersea tunnel. Most of the 8-kilometer-long sea-crossing bridges are in Sweden, all the way to the artificial island of Peberholm (in Denmark) in the strait. The train running between Malmö and Copenhagen runs on the bridge, which is very convenient. Generally ships pass through the Dulogtown Strait, and the undersea tunnel is below, and the Oresund Bridge is very spectacular.Limhamn · 6.8km from downtown

Malmo's small square is not far from the city hall. There are open-air cafes and restaurants on the square, and there are old buildings around. Locals often choose to drink coffee and chat here, which can be said to be a very lively place in Malmö. And it is also close to the pedestrian street, whether you are tired from shopping, or you can go shopping after eating. There is a giant table lamp on the square, which was built in 2006 and is 5.8 meters high. Standing under this huge table lamp, it seems to be in a fairy tale world.Malmo · 336m from downtown

The Little Mermaid

The Little Mermaid statue is located in the Long Beach Park in the northeast of Copenhagen, Denmark. It was cast by a Danish sculptor based on Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale "The Daughter of the Sea". The bronze statue was completed in Long Beach Park in 1913 and has a history of more than 100 years. It is a world-famous bronze statue and a symbol of Copenhagen, so it attracts countless tourists. The statue of The Little Mermaid is only 1.5 meters high, which is equivalent to the height of a teenage child. From a distance, the mermaid with a fish tail is sitting on a huge rock, quiet and elegant, leisurely and contented. If you look closely, the mermaid is a sad girl. Visitors come here to observe the mermaid's facial features. This beautiful statue has been cut off by thieves many times, so the head of the little mermaid I see now is transplanted later, not the original. The local government was worried that the statue would be damaged by too many tourists, so in March 2006, the Little Mermaid statue was relocated to the deep sea. Now, in Changdi Park, you can only stand outside the seaside fence and watch the little mermaid in the sea. Mermaid statue, and took a group photo with it across the fence. It should be noted that there are many tourists outside the fence, so you need to pay attention to safety when taking pictures.Copenhagen · 27.2km from Malmo

The Rosenborg Castle is a fairytale palace and one of Copenhagen's landmarks. It was purposely built in 1634 as the summer residence of Christian IV. It was designed in the Dutch Renaissance style, with bronze eaves and red brick walls being the main features. Before King Frederick IV completed Frederick Castle, three previous kings lived here. After 1883, it became the treasure house of successive kings, displaying many cultural relics such as decorations, gorgeous costumes, paintings and pottery. Here, you'll find opulent marble ceilings, priceless Dutch tapestries, lion statues cast in sterling silver, and utensils made of sterling gold. In addition, the Danish crown is also stored in the basement of the palace.Copenhagen · 28.2km from Malmo

The Copenhagen Canal, whose full name is Copenhagen Newport Canal, is an artificial canal, built between 1669 and 1673, which directs seawater into King's New Square. One of the houses built on both sides of the canal can still be seen, but the shore is now a pedestrian street with many restaurants in a suitable environment. You can take a seat in the lower hall of the cruise ship, or take a walk on the deck and enjoy the city views while cruising. The canal twists and turns through Copenhagen, and every turn offers views of the city's waterfront.Copenhagen · 27.4km from Malmo

Nyhavn, Denmark is a landmark attraction in Copenhagen. It is an artificial canal built between 1669 and 1673. The canal is lined with colorful townhouses from the 17th and 18th centuries, which are rich in color and form a unique landscape. Andersen once lived here and created many classic fairy tales, adding cultural heritage to it. You can stroll and take a boat tour here to experience the rich Nordic style and cozy atmosphere.

On the way to see the Little Mermaid, I happened to catch the changing of guards at the gate of Amalienborg. Since we couldn't enter, we just watched the changing of guards for a while. The soldiers marched in unison, and the unique ceremony looked quite interesting, attracting many tourists to stop and watch.

The Øresundsbron Bridge is a combined railway and highway bridge across Sweden and Denmark. The bridge is about 8 kilometers from the Swedish coast to the artificial island in the middle of the strait. It was opened to traffic on July 1, 2000. Now there are many windmills beside the bridge, with modern scenery.

It was night when we arrived here. The accommodation was next to this small square. It was very quiet at night and there were few people, but the whole landscape gave people a very comfortable feeling, which was quite good.

I visited the Little Mermaid statue in Denmark on a solo trip during winter. The cold breeze from the sea and the quiet atmosphere made the experience feel even more magical. The statue itself is smaller than I expected, but its delicate expression and connection to Andersen’s fairytale give it a unique charm. Since it was off-season, there weren’t many tourists, which allowed me to enjoy the peaceful surroundings. It’s a simple yet iconic landmark worth seeing at least once.

The park is the best part of the castle. It’s stunning with lots of trees and flowers. To enter the castle, you need to buy a ticket stick to time. So it’s best to book online first. It takes about 1h to see inside of the castle.

It was good to see the town from the canal. The sound system expanded so well about the buildings and history of Copenhagen. The inside seat was warm but couldn't see properly because of the clouded window. The outside seat was good to see the seanery but it was very cold.
