Sanmenhai Area

7.7
4.5/5
918 reviews
Nestled among the karst peaks of Fengshan County, Hechi, Guangxi, the Sanmenhai Area is a cluster of collapsed skylights connected by an underground river. The cave ceilings collapsed and linked with the surface, leaving seven skylights arranged like a string of beads resembling the Big Dipper, with three currently accessible by boat. The journey begins on a bright lake before entering a dark cave, then emerging back into the light, with the scenery of mountains, water, caves, and sky alternating before your eyes—creating the illusion of "seas within mountains and gates above seas," which inspired the name Sanmenhai. Geologists and cave researchers call this skylight cluster the "Window of the World" and the "Karst Geology Museum," as it remains largely untouched by human development. During the boat tour, the first stretch of water forms a lake encircled by cliffs, its surface a deep blue. The second skylight, known as the "Half-moon Skylight," reveals a rock opening resembling a crescent moon hanging above. The innermost skylight passage is deep and maintains a constant temperature—warm in winter and cool in summer. When sunlight slants through the opening onto the water, the turquoise lake and submerged rock walls reflect like a piece of jade immersed in water. The tour is primarily by boat, alternating between bright lakes and dark caves. Each passage through shadowy waterways is met with light from the skylights, offering perfect photo opportunities on sunny days when the water displays distinct layers of color. Due to its remote location, a round-trip to Fengshan town requires planning for travel time. The experience is boat-centric and pairs well with other karst views in the county on the same day.China · Fengshan

White-Headed Langur Ecological Tourism Area

7.4
4.8/5

The White-Headed Langur Ecological Tourism Area consists of four discontinuous rocky mountain areas: Bapen, Daling, Tuozhu, and Banli. The white-headed langur is named for the snow-white hair on top of its head and its diet consisting mainly of leaves. It is a primate species discovered and named by Chinese scholars, found only among the karst rocky mountains within Chongzuo. With a global population of just over one thousand, it is listed as Critically Endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, and Chongzuo is therefore known as "the hometown of the white-headed langur in China." After entering the park, a sightseeing bus ride of about ten minutes or a hike of a few hundred meters will bring you near the cliffs where the langur troops reside. The troops follow a fairly regular pattern: they leave to forage in the early morning, rest in the shade of the rock faces at noon, and return to their nests one after another before dusk, with relatively fixed routes, so patient waiting will most likely be rewarded. Infants born within half a year are golden all over and stand out strikingly in the arms of their black-furred mothers, making them a target that many nature photography enthusiasts come specifically for. The area is also home to protected animals such as the black langur and the macaque, and rare and endangered wild plants such as cycads and golden camellia. Relying on the rocky mountain forest ecosystem, the park carries out science education, ecological experience, and scientific research activities year-round. When observing the langurs, please keep quiet and do not feed or chase the troops; bringing your own binoculars or a telephoto lens makes it easier to see details on the cliffs, and avoiding noon in favor of early morning or dusk gives you a better chance of encountering active troops.China · Chongzuo

Beihai Underwater World

Beihai Underwater World is a large comprehensive aquarium that primarily showcases marine life, supplemented by exhibitions of terrestrial and amphibian animals. The venue features dozens of themed exhibition areas, including the undersea garden, undersea corridor, 100-meter undersea tunnel, Great Barrier Reef shark exhibit, dreamlike jellyfish hall, polar penguin hall, marine animal joy theater, and lost undersea city, covering tropical fish, coral reef ecosystems, rare marine specimens, and more. The 100-meter underwater tunnel is the core visiting area of the aquarium, presenting the underwater ecosystem through 360-degree glass and divided into three sections with different themes. As visitors walk through, they are surrounded above and around by azure seawater and various schools of fish. The tunnel features underwater scenes such as a replica of the ancient Inca Empire ruins, a themed display of the ancient Maritime Silk Road, and a World War II shipwreck model, along with a periodically erupting underwater volcano model. Together with the many fish from the Pacific and Indian Oceans, these create an immersive underwater adventure atmosphere. The rare specimen hall displays a dugong (commonly known as "mermaid") skeleton specimen and large whale skeleton specimens, offering a window to learn about marine mammals up close. The venue hosts multiple underwater performances daily, including the "Golden Storm" at the Lost City of the Sea featuring large schools of golden trevally, the "Legend of the Mermaid" underwater mermaid performance, dancing with sharks, and underwater weddings. The Sea Animal Joy Theater features interactive sea lion shows. At Fisherman's Wharf and the Giant Fish Feeding Area, visitors can observe large marine creatures such as great white sharks and manta rays up close, with some areas offering feeding interaction experiences. The Dream Jellyfish Pavilion uses sound, light, and multimedia technology to showcase various jellyfish from oceans around the world; the Polar Penguin Pavilion recreates a Nordic ice fjord environment where visitors can watch penguins up close.China · Beihai
Sanniang Bay
No. 1 of Best Things to Do in Qinzhou

Sanniang Bay

7.3
4.9/5
3.4k reviews
Sanniang Bay is located on the southern coast of Qinzhou, a tranquil and beautiful small fishing village. Its famous attraction is the Chinese white dolphins inhabiting the nearby waters, though spotting them requires some luck. Beyond dolphin watching, the simple fishing village life here is also appealing. Whether strolling on the beach, foraging at low tide, or enjoying the peaceful coastal life, this is a perfect leisure destination. Most travelers come from downtown Qinzhou for recreation, with two main options. One is a round-trip day visit to enjoy the beach and rocky shores, then take a speedboat to spot dolphins before returning, taking about half a day. The other option involves a longer stay at the attraction, where travelers can lodge in fishermen-run homestays, savor fresh seafood, relax on the beach, and experience the tranquil coastal fishing village life for a leisurely getaway. Spring and fall are good times to see dolphins, with a higher chance of spotting them. They can occasionally be seen on the beach, but the better way is to take a boat trip. The attraction offers speedboating or fishing boat tours for dolphin watching, though no method guarantees a sighting. After sailing a certain distance from the coast, you will reach the habitat of the Chinese white dolphin. Sometimes you can spot these beautiful dolphins leaping out of the water. Adult white dolphins are mostly white and pink, while calves have darker skin tones. They are extremely precious, and the photos taken of them are utterly adorable. Many hammocks are hung among the trees on the beach of Sanniang Bay, where travelers can relax and enjoy the serene coolness of the seaside. There are also several large rocks by the shore, such as Sanniang Rock and Sea Mother Rock, where you can climb the reefs and take photos with the sea. In addition, the seafood in the fishing village is very fresh and worth trying.China · Qinzhou

The core attraction of Sanmenhai Scenic Area, though not large, is the Tiffany Blue Lake. For those who see it every day, the 98 yuan boat ticket is worthwhile. However, if you've been to Pingshan Grand Canyon, you might not find it as amazing.

Stepping into the white-headed langur base, these spirits of the rocky mountains leap gracefully between the cliffs, their golden cubs nestled in their mothers' arms—a heartwarming scene. The guide explained that only about a thousand remain globally, found only in the karst mountains of Chongzuo. Watching them carefree as they nibble on leaves, I felt both gratified and burdened. Protecting them is protecting the unique lifeblood of this land. May more people pay attention to these "hermits of the rocky mountains," allowing them to forever thrive in their homeland.

Our group consisted of two adults and one child (4 years old). It was the child's first time seeing a sea lion show, and they were fascinated by the many different kinds of fish, even wanting to see it again the next day. Although it looks like there are only two buildings, walking around was quite tiring. The route could be improved, especially the area for small land animals shortly after the entrance. Other zoos also have animals like goats and monkeys, so it's unnecessary to spend too much energy there earlier. The Sky Gate was quite novel and a little scary for the child, but it was a great photo opportunity and attracted many adults. Overall, it's more suitable for children; I wouldn't recommend it specifically for adults. A very satisfying trip.

We took the Beihai International Passenger Port cruise ship to Weizhou Island, which took 80 minutes. We were in business class on the second floor, and the ride wasn't too bumpy. I didn't experience any seasickness. From Weizhou Island to Beihai, we took a slower ship, which took about 110 minutes; this time, we were in business class on the third floor. It was good value for money, a very pleasant experience, and the food on board wasn't expensive.

San Niang Bay is a low-key yet stunning national AAAA-level scenic area in Guangxi, renowned as the "Hometown of the Chinese White Dolphin." Here, azure seas and golden sands abound, uniquely shaped rocks abound, and the original fishing village exudes charm, blending culture and nature seamlessly. The highlight is the opportunity to take a speedboat out to sea for a chance to encounter the rare Chinese white dolphins; with luck, you might even spot a dreamy pink one. The sand is fine, the water clear, and at low tide, you can go beachcombing and collect shells. The Tianya Stone and San Niang Stone offer incredibly photogenic views. The area is not heavily commercialized, and the seafood is fresh and affordable, making it ideal for leisure vacations, family trips, and dolphin watching—a hidden gem in the Beibu Gulf for secluded seaside experiences.

The Baimo Cave isn't as exaggerated as the media portrays it. There are indeed quite a few elderly people inside undergoing so-called magnetic therapy. Personally, I think it's damp inside and could easily lead to rheumatoid arthritis.

It's definitely worth a visit. You can sit on the boat, feel the breeze on the Yong River, and watch a thrilling iron-smelting performance. After the boat trip, you can use your ticket to go to the fire show site to watch the iron-smelting performance up close again. It's a very worthwhile experience!

Starting point: Exit F of Chaoyang Square Metro Station → Nanning Historical Museum. The facade of the Republican-era Western-style building is very photogenic. It was closed the day I visited, so I could only take pictures of the exterior. Next, I visited the Deng Yingchao Memorial Hall, City God Temple, Jinshi Lane Ancient Residences, Lijiang Academy, Yinshi Lane Oil-paper Umbrella Street, Zhonghua Grand Theater, and Xingning Road Arcade. The retro facades and neon signs created a fantastic atmosphere. After that, I went to Changyou Pavilion to see the Yongjiang River view. If you're just casually strolling around, an hour should be enough. There are plenty of places to eat and drink in the area, and you could easily spend half a day there.
