National Art Museum of Catalonia

The National Art Museum of Catalonia is one of Barcelona's important art museums, a magnificent building that combines the essence of Romanesque and Gothic art from the Catalonia region. The museum is divided into the Romanesque art section and the Gothic art section. The former comprehensively displays murals, wood carvings, and other works discovered in the area, making it Europe's largest collection of Romanesque art. The latter houses numerous brilliant religious paintings from the Gothic period, allowing visitors to observe the subtle differences between the two art styles in detail. The photography section on the upper floor of the museum also features works by outstanding photographers from Catalonia since the mid-19th century. The adjacent exhibition hall includes a fascinating collection spanning over two thousand years, from ancient Greek and Roman coins to modern paper currency.
