Bagong Mountain Geopark
With a long history, the Bagong Mountain Geopark is renowned for being the famous battlefield of "The Battle of Fei River" and the birthplace of Tofu. Bagong Mountain Tofu and bean products are very famous, and the unique Bagong Mountain "Tofu Banquet" is praised both at home and abroad. The scenery of the Bagong Mountain is unique, with a rich cultural landscape. There are more than 40 large and small mountain peaks in the territory. Ancient springs are scattered around, with Xiyun Spring, Yulu Spring and Lanxiang Spring being especially renowned. Shouxian Ancient City
Shouxian Ancient City, known as Shouzhou and Shouchun in ancient times, served as the capital for the State of Chu at the end of the Warring States period and for the Huainan Kingdom during the Western Han Dynasty. For over 2,000 years, it has been an important town on the Huai River. The core highlight of the ancient city is the wall surrounding the old town. The existing wall was rebuilt during the Southern Song Dynasty and has been continuously repaired by subsequent dynasties, and some of the bricks still bear inscriptions such as "Jiankang." It has been continuously renovated throughout the ages, with bricks added to the exterior, serving the dual purpose of military defense and flood control. Stories closely related to the city wall include "The deep love of a cow for its calf," "The person inside the gate," and "The insatiable heart swallows an elephant." A moat surrounds the city wall, and the northern part runs along theHuai River. Taking a walk on the city wall offers some nice scenery. Baoen Temple
Baoen Temple is located on the east side of the ancient city of Shouxian, known locally as the Great Temple, and is the main attraction in the ancient city of Shouxian. Baoen Temple was built in Tang Dynasty. According to legend, it was built by Emperor Xuanzang of Tang Dynasty and has a long history. The monastery discovered the underground palace during the demolition of the dangerous pagoda in the Northern Song Dynasty. The precious gold and silver coffins and relics were unearthed in the underground palace, which are now hidden in the Shou County Museum. The existing 18 Arhat clay statues in the temple are also artistic treasures, so you can take a good look here. Bao'en Temple is a typical traditional temple building with three entrances. From Zhaobi, from south to north, there are Shanmen, Daxiong Hall and Pilu Pavilion. There are green plants in the courtyard, including ancient ginkgo trees that are more than 1,300 years old. The environment is beautiful, and you can visit them one by one after entering the temple. The precious 18 Arhat statues in the temple are located on both sides of the Daxiong Hall. Slender West Lake
"In March when flowers bloom, head to Yangzhou." When visiting Yangzhou in spring, a trip to Slender West Lake is a must. This narrow stretch of waterway offers the perfect blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage. In spring, the area is shaded by lush willows and adorned with camellias, pomegranates, azaleas, and peach blossoms, attracting visitors from across the country to enjoy the seasonal blooms. For centuries, countless literati have lingered here, composing poetry and creating paintings that left behind numerous artistic treasures and stories. The site also features many landscape structures ingeniously designed to harmonize with its natural surroundings. The Five Pavilion Bridge in Shugang Slender West Lake Scenic Area is the iconic attraction with over 200 years of history. Featuring five wind pavilions atop, each of the bridge's fifteen arches cradles a moon during full moon nights. Another renowned attraction is the Twenty-Four Bridge, inspired by Du Mu's poetic line "Where is the jade-like beauty teaching flute-playing on the moonlit Twenty-Four Bridge?" While the original bridge no longer exists, visitors can admire its reconstructed version today. This was also a stop during Emperor Qianlong's southern tours in the Qing Dynasty. Architectural views like the Great Rainbow Bridge, Slender West Lake Scenic Area's Fishing Terrace, White Pagoda, and the Twenty-Four Bridges' Xichun Platform all bear inseparable historical anecdotes connected to Emperor Qianlong. The very good Jiaogang Lake Film and Television City is only a few hundred meters away from Jiaogang Lake. You can visit the two attractions together, including the educated youth site, the Anti-Japanese War City, the old city during the Republic of China period, the railway station, and the children's playground.

Jiaogang Lake National Wetland Park exceeded my expectations! The 60,000-mu (approximately 4,000 hectares) lake stretches out in a vast expanse of misty waves. Boating through reed beds and lotus ponds, a gentle breeze carries the delicate fragrance of lotus blossoms, and waterbirds occasionally skim the surface – a truly pristine wetland landscape. The park boasts excellent facilities, clean boardwalks, and an immersive boat trip, where you can also savor authentic lake delicacies. Slow down, appreciate the beauty of the lake, relax and rejuvenate – a perfect weekend getaway! Highly recommended!

Shouxian Ancient City Wall: One of the seven best-preserved ancient city walls in China, it is a national key cultural relic protection unit. Construction began during the Xining era of the Northern Song Dynasty, nearly a thousand years ago. The wall is 9.7 meters high, constructed of rammed earth, with the outer wall made of bluestone and gray bricks, and the inner side a rammed earth slope. The wall has four gates: east, west, south, and north. The entire city wall is remarkably well-preserved, a gem of Song Dynasty architecture.

Shou County Baoen Temple is located near the east gate of Shou County. It is a thousand-year-old temple built during the Zhenguan period of the Tang Dynasty. The famous monk Xuanzang presided over the construction. There are two thousand-year-old ginkgo trees in the temple, which are estimated to have been planted when the temple was built.

The performance was alright; it's worth seeing if you buy a package ticket, but individual tickets are a bit pricey. The audience seats face west, so I wouldn't recommend watching in the afternoon as the light is too harsh.

The hotel's biggest advantage is its cleanliness; the hygiene is comparable to a five-star hotel. It's very close to the scenic area, and the nearby commercial district offers convenient access to food and drinks. The bedding and facilities are relatively new and comfortable. Most importantly, the owner is very welcoming and patiently explained the mountain tour routes before I left. I will definitely choose this hotel again next time I visit Jiuhua Mountain.

We were very fortunate that our top guide today was Ms. Dong Ling. Her professional expertise was solid; she didn't just recite from memory. She eloquently explained the stories and archaeological backgrounds behind each of the museum's treasures, making dry history vivid and easy to understand. My son and I deeply experienced the thousand-year history of Nanjing. Highly recommended!
