"Having seen Huangshan, no other mountain compares," this trip was truly worthwhile. I had prepared for a stormy and misty climb based on the weather forecast, but to my surprise, the sun shone brightly, and the long-awaited Huangshan unfolded before my eyes. Bright Summit, West Sea Grand Canyon, Welcoming Pine, Flying Stone, Monkey Gazing at the Mountain… so many beautiful sights and wonders, it was overwhelming. There weren't many people climbing that day; the cable car and mini-train had almost no queues. We also met a group of very kind fellow travelers and a young tour guide. The guide was professional and down-to-earth, constantly encouraging us, helping us carry our backpacks, respecting everyone's opinions on the itinerary, and giving us ample time to take photos and rest. The whole trip wasn't rushed. I never imagined that on the summit of Huangshan, I could be holding a milk tea in my right hand, my left hand in my pocket, strolling leisurely along the magnificent plank roads and stone steps under the warm sun, gentle breeze, and dappled shadows of the pines, just like walking in the city. I had imagined a long, arduous climb, soaked to the bone, disheveled by the wind, my heavy backpack weighing me down. This stark contrast gave me an almost unreal sense of happiness, a feeling that belies the greatest desire in life. I'm grateful for this connection and look forward to my next reunion with Huangshan.

We visited in November on a weekday. Lesser crowd and the weather was perfect, sunny between 10°C & 15°C. Our tour came with a guide who got us the tickets and planned the hiking routes, covering every "tourist-must-see" parts of the mountain. The buffet lunch recommended by the guide at ¥98/pax up on the mountains is a really good deal too. Huangshan is NO JOKE. The 8km up and down the steps lasted for almost 6 hours, excluding the one-way 20mins shuttle bus ride & one-way 10mins cable car ride. At the end of the tour our legs were not cooperative anymore. Besides the breathtaking views, it was also heartbreaking to see elderly potters carrying approximately 180 catties (about 108kg!) of goods up and down the mountains. They are literally breaking their backs 😭! Some even stopped and asked passers-by for water / food. Would forming a bucket brigade or a human chain be workable?
