Top Experiences & Travel Essentials in Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai, tucked into the forested mountains of northern Thailand, is a former Lanna kingdom capital. With ancient temples, misty hills, and artisan villages, Chiang Mai offers a peaceful contrast to the bustle of Bangkok. Chiang Mai weather varies by season, with the cool, dry months from November to February being ideal for outdoor adventures and temple visits. Top things to do in Chiang Mai include exploring the Old City, visiting mountaintop Doi Suthep, and wandering Chiang Mai night markets, where food, crafts, and local charm come together every evening. One highlight is the city shines during the Chiang Mai Lantern Festival, when thousands of glowing lanterns float into the night sky—a truly magical sight.

We booked a chartered car service through Ctrip. The company was excellent, especially our driver, Mr. Si. We booked the Sticky Waterfall and the Skyline Jungle Zipline, two routes quite far apart. Mr. Si carefully budgeted our trips. When the original route up the mountain was closed due to rain, Mr. Si readily took us on a detour. In the afternoon, he even took us to see the Blue Temple, which was a pleasant surprise. Mr. Si was warm and attentive, providing detailed information about Chiang Mai's attractions and local culture along the way. We had a wonderful day. Thank you!

It was my first time touching a tiger, and I was still a little scared when I actually did it. I didn't climb the Sticky Waterfall; as a middle-aged person, I still felt it was dirty and dangerous. Be careful of mosquitoes, though; I got a few bites. Two days later, I went ziplining in the mountains, and there were no mosquitoes.

The driver who picked us up in the morning was a little late and we had to wait for 30 minutes. However, the customer service was very good and responded promptly. It was very early in the morning and the response was fast and the attitude was good. Overall, it was very good.
