The Sella del Diavolo (The Devil's Saddle) takes its name from the ancient legend according to which Lucifer fell in love with the beauty of the Gulf of Cagliari and tried to take it over, but was thrown from his horse by the archangel Michael. Losing his saddle, it fell into the waters of the gulf and petrified, giving rise to the current promontory.
