Precautions
This card can be used to pay at designated convenience stores, Food and Beverages courts, vending machines, etc., without the need for cash
When adding value, place your Octopus on the Octopus card reader until you hear a "beep" sound and the display shows the transaction completed and the remaining balance. If the transaction cannot be completed because the Octopus moves too fast, place the Octopus on the same machine again.
Do not place more than one Octopus or other contactless smart card on the Octopus card reader at the same time
Do not tamper with your Octopus without permission, including bending, writing on, scratching, cutting, or affixing stickers, photos or other decorations to it. Otherwise, the transaction will not be recognized and the remaining balance will not be refunded.
If you book a rental Octopus, a HKD 50 deposit will be charged for each Octopus when you redeem it. When you return it, the staff will refund the deposit and the remaining balance on the card . A service fee of HKD 11 will be charged for each card.
If the balance on the Octopus card is zero or negative, the Octopus card cannot be used until it is topped up.
Octopus can be topped up with cash at thousands of locations across Hong Kong (7-Eleven, Circle K convenience stores, 759 Store, McDonald's, VanGO convenience stores, Watsons, Mannings, etc.)
The unused balance on the card can be refunded in cash at any MTR station (except Airport Express counter)
