Taiping Ancient City in Chongzuo City boasts a long history, dating back to the fifth year of the Hongwu reign of the Ming Dynasty (1372). Initially, it was built with earthen walls. In the sixth year of the Yongle reign, a major flood in the Zuojiang River caused over 400 zhang (approximately 200 meters) of the city walls to collapse. Since the founding of the People's Republic of China, due to urban expansion, the ancient city was demolished and leveled, with the bricks and stones used to pave the streets.
The entire scenic area revolves around themes such as Luoyue culture, Zhuang culture, water culture, and sugar culture. The inner river has been restored and expanded on its original site, and the ancient city walls have been repaired. This is a 4A-level cultural tourism scenic area, offering tourists a one-stop experience encompassing sightseeing, shopping, entertainment, dining, accommodation, and transportation, promoting the integrated development of commercial development with folk performances, technological management, and intangible cultural heritage preservation.
Many Hanfu (traditional Han clothing) and ethnic costumes are available for rent for photo opportunities, making it perfect for taking pictures. Although highly commercialized, it offers a complete range of food, drinks, and entertainment. It gets very crowded on holidays; it's recommended to visit on a sunny afternoon to enjoy the beautiful sunset.
