西安城墙永宁门最早建于隋代，明代修建西安城墙时沿用成了西安的正南门，也是西安最古老历史最悠久的城门。经过1989年月楼与闸楼修建后，2014年有修建了箭楼，这里已经成了古代城楼的典型代表。

永宁门是西安城墙的正南门，建于隋代初，当年它是皇城南面三座城门中偏东的一座，原叫安上门，唐末韩建缩建新城时留作南门，明代改为永宁门，现永宁门为环岛交通，门外有南门广场，门内为南大街，门外接南关正街。
