The famous Royal Greenwich Observatory is named after the historic town of Greenwich, and is known for its maritime history, as the standard point of the original meridian (also known as the O-degree meridian) and Greenwich time, which is the starting point of the world time zone. In 1997, Greenwich Observatory was listed as a World Heritage Site.
