Dachstein Eishohlen Review

Near the Lake District of Obertraun there is the fascinating Dahstein Ice Caves (Dachstein Rieseneishöhle). The cave has been around for millions of years and extends about 80 kilometers into the mountains. The ice itself is no more than 500 years old, but the thickness is increasing every year. The "iceberg" is 8 meters high, twice the height when it was first discovered in 1910. There are two cable cars on Dachstein, and there are three caves down from the first cable car, of which it is most famous for the 10,000-year-old ice cave. Dahstein Mountain was in Upper Traun. I went at the end of May. The snow was very thick and the sunshine was sufficient. I wondered why the snow was not covered. The big ice cave was very cold and the ground was wet. The icicles in the ice cave were like stalactites, up to 10 meters high. The entire trip to the ice cave attraction is 50 minutes, and about ten people are equipped with a guide to explain the origin of the ice cave, development and so on.

There are many caves on the mountains around Harstadt, and some of them have groundwater-condensed ice. The ice cave is very distinctive!

It’s a worthwhile trip. Most tourists are locals. There are fewer people choosing English tour guides. So we were placed in front of the queue. It was clear that it had to climb for a long time. It was quite tired, but the flat place behind the road was shockingly beautiful after the first hour. The scene began, the water pouring down the top of the cave condensed into ice, formed various shapes, and had to lament the magic of nature.
