Locals here don't usually order this candied egg dish; it's too sweet. However, their signature dish is indeed quite good. The egg is fried thoroughly, and the sugar coating is quite long and stringy. It's just right for four or five people to share; any more than that and it becomes too cloying.
It's an old shop, but the decor is still the same as it was over a decade ago. The calendars on the walls are yellowed, and the wooden tables are worn smooth. But just for this braised pork, it tastes like the kind our older generation used to cook—the meat is stewed until tender and not greasy at all. Many new restaurants these days can't replicate that feeling.
This shop was so hard to find! It's hidden in a small alley, not far from the Ancient Lotus Pond, but if I hadn't followed a few local elderly men, I probably would have circled around three times. Did you almost miss it too? 😂
