It spreads out over 130,000m2 of land size, and is popular with its stunningly beautiful landscapes of tunnels, waterfalls etc. What makes this park so famous despite its remote location is the Momiji Valley, where several hundreds of maple trees changing its colours to red and orange, which is truly mesmerizing. The vermillion coloured bridge makes the park landscape even more pictureque, and everywhere has a nice place for a picture to be taken. Besides, there are lights being installed for night viewing of maple trees so that visitors can also enjoy the night picturesque maple sceneries.

Niigata is great lol The food is delicious and the air is clean. Their rice is the best in Japan! Right? So, of course, their sake is the best in Japan! (That's just my opinion.) I don't like cold places, but snow is still so wonderful. It's kind of exciting. I would like to say that this year's snow is abnormal. It's falling too much. But the open-air bath when it's snowing too much was also amazing. (I rushed in at the time the morning baths started so I could take a photo.) I also visited Yahiko Shrine, trying not to get in close to the crowds. 📅 Itinerary Day 1: Hiking in Niigata City. Visited the food and shopping plazas and various specialty shops near the station, then hiked to the Bandai shopping district, followed the Shinano River to Bandai Bridge, and continued to the Furumachi shopping street. Day 2: Visited Yahiko Shrine (2400 years old), about an hour's train ride from Niigata Station. It was very crowded, so we didn't pray. We browsed around the shrine and bought some amulets. On the mountain path leading to the shrine, we bought some Yahiko rice (said to be rice offered to the imperial family). Day 3: The train journey took nearly three hours across Niigata and Fukushima prefectures, leading to Aizu-Wakamatsu Station, famous for its Tsuruga Castle. The small town was very quiet; most restaurants didn't open until 11:00 or 11:30. Near the entrance to Tsuruga Castle, we ate Kitakata Ramen; the light soy sauce base and incredibly tender, melt-in-your-mouth char siu were amazing. 🏨 Accommodation Recommendation: We stayed at the Bandai Silver Hotel, a fantastic location just a one-minute walk from Bandai Plaza. 🍴 Food Recommendation: In Niigata, known as the "Ramen Kingdom," I recommend a ramen shop called "Magokoro-tei" near the station. They serve miso ramen, and I highly recommend their special "Shimōri" (frozen pork back fat) ramen – it was absolutely amazing and great value for money. Of course, Niigata Prefecture is famous for its rice, so let's try some rice from the snow country! 📌 Useful Tips: Taking the Joetsu Shinkansen from Tokyo to Niigata Station takes less than two hours. In the time it takes to nap, you'll be transported to Kawabata Yasunari's "Snow Country," a truly beautiful place. If you have the chance, I'd love to visit Sado Island and Echigo-Yuzawa next time.

#springtravel This is a very famous sake brewery, not only in Niigata but throughout all of Japan. They have received many awards and produce a huge variety of sake, all differing in flavor profiles and rice polishing ratios. You can learn more about this during a guided tour of the brewery — unfortunately, I didn’t manage to join one — or during a tasting session. For 1,500 yen, you can sample a large number of different types of sake. There is also a free tasting option, where you can try two types of amazake and one sake. In addition, they have a gachapon machine: for 500 yen, you can win a token that can later be exchanged for a bottle of sake. You can also buy sake kasu — the byproduct of sake production — for 880 yen, and pack as much as you can tightly fit into a bag. Very interesting. Highly recommended.

#springtravel Sadly when I visited, Yahiko shrine area had experienced an unusually warm summer which caused the autumn leaves to come really late. As such all I could see was green. However I still did get some stunning photos with transitional foliage and whatever red leaves there were. If I had another chance in the future I would definitely try and visit again at the peak of the autumn foliage as I believe it would look absolutely wonderful. Oh there was a night light up which I missed too due to visiting in the morning. Do plan accordingly if you wish to see the night light up.

Sengando Suspension Bridge, one of Niigata's 50 Best Bridges, is a 124-meter-long suspension bridge. It's closed during the winter, but its vibrant red color, set against the green mountains, makes for a truly beautiful sight. ⛰️ The bridge is 35 meters high, making it an impressive sight! With a parking lot nearby, it's an easy tourist spot to visit. ☀️ From the suspension bridge, you can enjoy expansive views of the Echigo Plain and the Okawazu Diversion Channel. It doesn't sway much, and the bottom is covered with planks, so even small children can cross safely! Be sure to check it out! ❣️

Yahiko Shrine is renowned as a strong spiritual spot for improving work luck and fostering relationships. It is said to have been established over 2400 years ago and is even mentioned in the Manyoshu, making it a historically significant shrine.⛩️ The central pillar of the first torii gate is elevated about 6cm above the ground! Try placing your hand underneath it.⛩️ After visiting the shrine, why not take the ropeway up Mount Yahiko?🚡 There’s a free shuttle bus departing from right near the shrine, making it convenient🚌. It’s about a 20-minute walk otherwise. The ropeway takes you to the summit in just 5 minutes⛰️, offering a panoramic view of the Echigo Plain. Tickets are 1500 yen for adults and 750 yen for children for a round trip. From the summit, it’s about a 15-minute walk to the sacred mausoleum! Even a 3-year-old child managed the walk🚶. Did you know about this renowned 300-year-old inn located right next to Yahiko Shrine, a well-known power spot? Nadai-ya is a historic inn in Yahiko Village, Niigata Prefecture, that serves dishes made with seasonal ingredients. Both dinner and breakfast were incredibly luxurious and surprisingly filling! I was completely stuffed! The inn draws water from Yahiko Onsen, also known as the "hot spring of the gods," and is a hot spring that is safe for people of all ages and genders, and is said to promote good health. The private family bath is an open-air bath with a panoramic view of the Echigo Plain. Please note that you must make a reservation in advance to use it. Right next to the inn is a Takoyaki tree over 1,000 years old. It's famous as the great tree of Yahiko, so be sure to go and see it! 🌳

I successfully completed my visit, drew a fortune slip, bought a protective charm since it's a power spot, and wrote a wish on an ema (wooden plaque). The snow added a magical touch, and the clear air made me feel very sacred 😌.
