A three-day, two-night trip can be very comfortable for just 800 yuan per person. 🥟 Let's start with the food. Anshan people really know how to eat! Niuzhuang meat pie deserves a shout-out. It's a provincial-level intangible cultural heritage, and that's no exaggeration. The crust is so thin it's translucent, and one bite and the beef juice bursts out. Even just sitting outside the shop with a bowl of millet porridge is delicious. The old-established restaurant in Haicheng is so filling you'll be stuffed for just 20 yuan per person. Xiuyan mutton soup is also a lifesaver in the sweltering heat. The milky white broth isn't gamey at all. Soak a flatbread in the soup, and I can easily eat two bowls by myself. Back in Tiedong city, I had a bowl of Lao Siji pulled noodles. Chicken broth with a spoonful of chili oil—a local breakfast staple—costs 15 yuan per person. Qingliang Mountain: the highest peak in southern Liaoning, turning midsummer into late autumn As the car turned onto the mountain road northeast of Xiuyan, the thermometer outside the window quietly dropped by 2 degrees. The wind rushing toward us carried the fresh scent of pine needles and the dampness of the earth. The road grew narrower and the trees denser. When the thick green canopy finally blocked out the sky overhead, we had arrived at Qingliang Mountain. The mountain is named for its deep forests and mild, cool climate. Its highest peak, Maokui Mountain, stands at 1,141.5 meters and is the tallest in southern Liaoning. At the moment of reaching the summit, clouds flowed beneath our feet, distant mountains appeared as dark blue silhouettes, and nearby ridges glowed with green. The wind rustled through the pine forest, producing a low, rolling sound as if telling a story. On the way down, the mountain’s details gradually came into view. The scenic area is famous for its “strange rocks, clear water, elegant peaks, unique pines, and steep cliffs,” earning it the nickname “Little Huangshan of the Northeast.” The Reclining Elephant Rock rests quietly on the mountainside; legend says someone once tried to blow it up but failed. The Twin Wind Rocks teeter on the cliff’s edge but have stood firm for a thousand years. Lion Cliff looks like a proud lion guarding the forest. Longtan Bay: In the legend of nine pools and eighteen bays, find a heart of emerald green Driving past Xiuyan County, heading southwest, the road narrows and the mountains draw closer. Longtan Bay is hidden within Longtan Mountain, located right at the junction of Anshan, Yingkou, and Dalian on the map. The mountain isn’t very tall, with the highest peak just over 870 meters, but the vegetation is incredibly dense, with forest coverage exceeding 95%. Entering the scenic area, the first thing that greets you isn’t the view, but the air. With 20,000 negative oxygen ions per cubic meter, the air feels refreshingly sweet. The mountain path winds along a stream, flanked by tree canopies that block out the sky. Needleleaf and broadleaf forests blend together, and sunlight filters through the gaps, casting dappled light on the stone steps. Halfway up the mountain, the sound of water grows louder. Following the sound, you’ll find nine water bays scattered throughout the canyon, each with a unique shape, name, and story. Some resemble crescent moons, some roar like thunder, and others hide tales of talented scholars and beautiful women—each bay has its own legend. At the end of the valley lies the “Dragon Pool.” The pool is shaped like a peach, with stone edges and a stone bottom. Water flows into the “peach stem” through cracks in the canyon rocks, swirls briefly in the pool, then spills out from the “peach tip.” The water is clear and emerald green, more than 8 meters deep. On the east and west sides, layered rock formations rise over 15 meters high, like two half-open stone doors. The pool can reflect double moons—perhaps the most poetic tribute to this water.
