Yangshuo in July is seriously an underrated summer getaway 🍃. Although the weather forecast looks scary, after the showers, the sky clears up with healing blue skies and white clouds. The temperature is much more comfortable than the furnace-like heat in Chongqing or Wuhan. Before you go, do the math. For two people, three days and two nights, staying comfortably + eating and drinking + tickets and transportation, it costs about 1,200 per person. Students can lower accommodation by one level and still have a great time for around 800 💰. Below is what I just put together after my trip—lazy travelers can just copy it. Here’s my easy itinerary (really no rush version) Day 1 Arrive at Yangshuo station by high-speed train at noon. Take the shuttle bus 20 minutes into town, drop off luggage, and head straight to West Street for food. In the evening, watch Impression Liu Sanjie, the water-based live show directed by Zhang Yimou. It’s better to buy a combo ticket on Ctrip in advance. Impression Liu Sanjie regular seats are 199, VIP over 300. Regular seats have a perfectly fine view. Beer fish costs about 80 per person. Both Master Chef and Sister Xie are good. Guilin rice noodles are 6 per bowl and perfect for breakfast 🍜. July in shennongjia is tough and over. I don’t really recommend squeezing into the core popular homestays in muyu town in July and August. Who really knows shennongjia in July? I used to think the midsummer heat in the mountains would make you sweat on the back of your neck, so I packed two boxes of cooling gel patches before heading to western hubei. But once I got into the mountains, I found the highest noon temperature in the forest was only 22 degrees. The pine waves carried the fresh scent of fir and wild kiwi into my collar. Fans were rarely on. Two people spent just over 2,000 yuan for 4 days of wandering, way more comfortable than squeezing into the wuhan night market sauna. Before leaving, I stuffed my backpack full of freshly roasted hazelnuts. Fellow travelers asked if I wanted to rent a small forest cottage at the foot of the mountain next month to spend half a month picking wild mushrooms 🥹 🌾 super detailed itinerary Completely avoid peak check-in times. Leave at 9 AM each day to dodge the fleeting sun on the mountain peaks: Day 1: Arrive at noon and head straight to the old alley in muyu town for a bowl of lazy tofu. The bean aroma mixed with the smell of firewood feels soothing with every bite. In the afternoon, stroll slowly along xiangxi trail, watch mountain spring water flow over the pebbles, and wait for sunset to dye the mountain clouds orange. Local grandmas sell chilled wild lily soup at roadside stalls. Day 2: No need to rush early to squeeze onto the shennong peak viewing platform.
