Weishan travel guide and discussion

It really isn't heavily commercialized—maybe a bit too uncommercialized, as I suspect many shops don't even open until after sunset. Weishan Ancient City is truly perfect for a stroll. Actually, a high degree of commercialization should be a neutral term. If you don't want any commercialization, you might as well just go to Ailao Mountain. Happy to see a rainbow in Weishan 🌈

Deep in the heart of the Ailao Mountains, past rolling rice terraces and dense bamboo groves, the ancient Yi village of Zhuomulang rests quietly in the embrace of the peaks. As a pristine settlement preserved from the Nanzhao Kingdom, it remains almost entirely untouched by modern guesthouses or commercial storefronts. Layers of mud walls and blue-tiled roofs cascade along the mountain slopes. Elders, still dressed in hand-embroidered traditional attire, sit leisurely by their doorways spinning yarn and stitching patterns. The village maintains its ancient agricultural traditions, where spring plowing and autumn harvests still follow seasonal rhythms passed down for a millennium. The cobblestone alleys have been polished to a warm sheen by the passage of years. Wisps of smoke from indoor hearths drift slowly toward the summits, children chase each other along the field ridges, and the air is thick with the scent of woodsmoke and wildflowers. Sitting beneath an old scholar tree, watching the villagers go about their work, time seems to slow its pace. There are no rushed itineraries, no pressure for social media check-ins. Much of the bygone tenderness we have forgotten remains perfectly preserved in this remote mountain sanctuary. We spend our lives racing forward, obsessed with finding new landscapes, yet we often find ourselves yearning for the simple days of our youth—times when we didn't have to calculate gains or navigate endless distractions. Zhuomulang never tries to impress its visitors; it simply reawakens the softest memories in one's heart through its raw, rural daily life. Before leaving, purchase a piece of hand-embroidery; every stitch carries the warmth of generations. As the mountain breeze rustles the thatched roofs, it reminds us that all precious memories of the past are worth treasuring with the soul. Brew new tea with a fresh fire; enjoy poetry and wine while you are still in the prime of your life.

That autumn, when I was 44, HR called me into the office. When I came out, I was carrying a box. I had lived in Shanghai for 16 years. The mortgage on our old apartment in Pudong still had eight years left. Our daughter had just started middle school, and my wife worked in education training with an unstable income. That night, the three of us sat in the living room without saying a word. Later, I made a decision that all my relatives thought was crazy—selling the house and moving to Dali. My mother-in-law said on the phone, “Why stir things up at your age? What about the kids’ education?” I didn’t know how to answer. But I wanted to ask: life has come to this, is it wrong to try living differently? The first night we stayed at a guesthouse by the old town. Opening the window, we saw Cangshan Mountain. Our daughter chased cats in the yard, and my wife sat on the porch, lost in thought, saying, “It’s so quiet here it makes you want to cry.” In Shanghai, all we ever heard was the sound of drills from the neighbors’ renovations and car horns from downstairs. · -- 🔥 Why here No need for air conditioning in summer. The average temperature in July is just over 20℃. The breeze from Erhai Lake flows through the alleys, cool and refreshing. My wife has rhinitis and was congested all year round in Shanghai. After six months here, she’s more than half better. The air really is different. At the foot of Cangshan, the negative ion concentration is high. Before coming, I had insomnia for three years. Now, I’m nodding off before 10 PM. My liver enzymes also improved during a checkup. The doctor looked at the report and asked, “Did you move to a new city?” The flower fields and rice paddies look even better than in photos. The rapeseed flowers in Caicun, the rice waves in Xizhou, the succulents at Jizhao Temple—any snapshot could be a wallpaper. My wife now gets up early every day to go to the North Gate market and brings back fresh flowers to put in the living room. There are many places to explore, and it’s affordable. Cycling around Erhai Lake is free. You can hike any of the 19 peaks of Cangshan. Shaxi and Weishan are both accessible by high-speed rail, perfect for spontaneous weekend trips. The hot springs here are natural sulfur springs heated by geothermal energy, and it costs just a few dollars to soak all afternoon. My wife says it’s much better value than the spa membership she had in Shanghai. · -- 🗺️ Weekly rhythm Monday: shop at the North Gate market for the week’s groceries. Tuesday: bike along Erhai Lake, leisurely riding to Longkan Pier. Wednesday: spend half a day at a café in the old town, reading and people-watching. Thursday: have a vegetarian meal at Jizhao Temple and enjoy the flowers. Friday: pick up our daughter early from school and stroll around San Yue Street. Weekend: meet friends to visit Shaxi or Weishan, stay overnight, then return. Simple, but never boring. · -- 📌 Food and lodging You can rent a small house with a yard for just over 2,000 yuan a month. The old town offers options at all price points, from budget to luxury. The cost of a meal at the market is half of what it is in Shanghai. Local specialties include Erhai fish, wild mushrooms, and Rushan cheese. · -- 📌 A few reminders · Bring a jacket during the rainy season. It’s cool in the morning and evening but warm at midday, so layering is best. · Medical care is acceptable. The city has a top-tier hospital, and it’s a half-hour drive from the old town to the city center. · Think carefully about your children’s education. Yunnan’s resources don’t match those of first-tier cities. We moved when our daughter started middle school, but it’s better to move during elementary or after high school. · Don’t quit your job or sell your house on impulse. Selling our Shanghai home was a personal choice. We recommend renting for a month or two first to make sure you can adapt before deciding. A year later, our daughter wrote in her essay: “My dad seems like a different person. He used to frown at his phone all the time. Now he’s planting flowers in the yard.” Some paths can only be judged by those who have walked them. Whether Dali is a good place—you’ll know when you come.

Jianshui and Lin’an ancient town don’t charge admission. Chaoyang Tower was built 28 years before Tiananmen! Early in the morning, locals gather by the Dabajing well to fetch water. Grilled tofu for 0.5 yuan and grass sprout rice noodles are so fresh they’ll make your tongue tingle. Ride the century-old narrow-gauge train through rice fields, watch the sunset at the Seventeen-Arch Bridge in the evening, where the golden light shines through the arches—your social feed will be legendary. Mangshi, a Dai-flavored town on the China-Myanmar border, has no tour groups! The golden pagoda dazzles under the sun, and the silver pagoda’s reflection looks like Chiang Mai. At Bingwu village’s morning market, you can buy a bunch of tropical fruit for just a few yuan, with spicy and sour flavors that whet your appetite, and ice-cold puluda drinks. You’ll be the only tourist in the whole town—pure bliss. Weishan is just 40 minutes from Dali but feels like another world. No bars, no trendy shops, just locals soaking up the sun. Start your day with pork and rice noodles paired with a stick of dough, then climb Weibao Mountain with the ancient town at your feet—this is the real “I own a place in Dali” feeling. Lufeng has dinosaur fossils right beneath your feet! Heijing ancient town is tucked in a mountain valley, with stone-paved streets polished shiny by footsteps and the aroma of salt-braised pork filling the alleys. Wutai Mountain’s forest canopy blocks out the sun, making it feel like a natural air conditioner in summer. Then there’s Guangnan Bamei, accessible only by boat through karst caves. Once you exit the cave, you’ll see rice fields and old houses—this is exactly the Peach Blossom Land Tao Yuanming wrote about! Mile’s red brick kaleidoscope buildings look like a fairy tale, and the underground hot springs will relax you completely. The high-speed train makes it easy to go anytime. Tengchong Heshun ancient town’s morning market serves rare bean powder with fried dough sticks, and the ginkgo village turns golden in autumn. Menglian is the last Dai ancient town, with tea gardens under golden pagodas, hand-held meals served on banana leaves, and spicy, sour pounded chicken feet that pack a punch. A few tips: The high-speed train goes directly to Jianshui and Mile; driving is more flexible for the others. Visit Guangnan and Lufeng to cool off in summer, chase the ginkgo in Tengchong in autumn, and soak up the sun in Mangshi and Menglian in winter. Guesthouses start just above 100 yuan, and street food costs about 30 yuan per person to eat your fill. Remember your ID at the border, and drive carefully in the mountains during the rainy season. Yunnan has so many great places—don’t just focus on Dali and Lijiang. Would you rather visit border Dai villages, rural ancient towns, or hot spring towns to relax? Let me know in the comments, and I’ll help you explore next time!

Walk slowly through alleys, wait for morning mist on the stone bridge, watch the sunset over the rice paddies, and come away with a full set of stunning travel photos.

Just got back after lying around in Dali for 6 days. July and August really are the peak season here—average temperature just over 20℃, the blue of Erhai Lake is the clearest, and wild mushrooms are in season🍄. But with the rainy season and peak season overlapping, there are more pitfalls than usual. I’ll lay out all the spots where I got tripped up three times, so you won’t waste your time following this guide. · ----- 🌤 First, three things unique to July and August (skip these and the rest won’t help) · UV rays are a hidden danger: At 2,000m elevation, the UV index is usually 8–10, and you can get sunburned even on cloudy days. SPF 50+ PA++++, a wide-brimmed hat, and sunglasses are must-haves. If you’re biking, apply sunscreen to the backs of your hands and feet too. · Afternoon showers hit hard: Sunny in the morning, heavy rain in the afternoon, then clearing up in 20–40 minutes. After the rain, the clouds over Cangshan Mountain are stunning. Always carry an umbrella; don’t pack it in your suitcase. · Day and night temperature difference over 10℃: 28℃ in short sleeves at noon, 15℃ by the corridor at night. Bring a light jacket or sun protection clothing for layering. · ----- 📍 Must-visit spots (avoid the crowded tourist versions) ▫️ Erhai ecological corridor—don’t squeeze into S Bay for photos. Head a few kilometers north along Panxi; almost no one there. Walk barefoot on the beach and watch the sunset. When the lake turns orange-red, you’ll be stunned. ▫️ Xizhou ancient town—main street is commercialized. Instead, explore the small paths by the rice fields, meet Bai uncles leading horses, and enjoy 5-yuan old-fashioned popsicles. Time moves incredibly slow here. The broken crisp pastries must be freshly baked over a charcoal stove; electric ovens make them hard. ▫️ Jizhao nunnery (take the Cangshan Gantong cable car)—no incense burning, just flower tending. The courtyard is full of succulents and hydrangeas. On sunny days, you might see rainbow light spots in the backyard’s aerial fish pond. Vegetarian lunch starts at 11:30 AM; arrive before 11 AM. Cash only. ▫️ Shuanglang → Wase → Xiaoputuo along the Haidong line—don’t drive into Shuanglang and get stuck. Just get a distant view of the panorama from the viewing platform. Climb the small hill on Deer Lying Mountain for a wilder view of Erhai Lake. ▫️ Chongsheng Temple Three Pagodas—75 yuan entrance. Climb the back mountain viewing platform to see the entire Dali basin and Erhai Lake framed. On the way, try a bowl of cold chicken rice noodles. ▫️ Xiaguan coastal avenue—locals’ favorite spot to watch the lake. The southernmost point of Erhai Lake. The blue hour at dusk is breathtaking and ten times less crowded than S Bay. 💡 If you have time, strongly recommend Shaxi and Weishan (each needs an extra day). The slow pace of the Shaxi Tea Horse Road can’t be found in the ancient city. · ----- 🍜 What to eat (filtered by “local favorites”) · Cold chicken rice noodles: a summer staple, Bai native chicken shreds with smooth rice noodles mixed in sauce. The old Weishan shop is more authentic. · Xizhou pastries: freshly baked over charcoal, sweet rose sugar or savory minced meat flavors, flaky to the point of crumbling. Avoid the main street tourist shops; go to the old shop on Shiping Street side. · Grilled milk fan: made from milk, wrapped in rose sauce. The uncle’s stall by the Xizhou rice fields is cheaper and softer than the ancient city’s. · Wild mushroom hot pot: July and August only! Matsutake and boletus mushrooms are fresh and green. The broth is so tasty you’ll want to drink it all. Make sure the restaurant cooks it long enough. · Bai-style sour and spicy fish and pork rice noodles are also worth trying. Buy souvenirs (mushroom sauce, rose sauce) at the North Gate market; it’s half the price of tourist spots. · ----- 🗺 4-day 3-night itinerary (no rush) Day 1 Arrive → settle in Dali ancient city → evening stroll and eat on Renmin Road, cold chicken rice noodles + grilled milk fan, hang out at a folk music bar until midnight Day 2 Sunrise at Longkan pier → bike the ecological corridor (toward Panxi and S Bay, don’t bike back) → afternoon in Xizhou, rice fields + Yan family mansion + pastries → return to ancient city Day 3 Take the Gantong cable car up Cangshan → hike Yudai Road → Jizhao nunnery (vegetarian lunch + backyard coffee) → evening stop at Xindi Coffee San Sheng Island store to watch the sea on the way back Day 4 Haidong line: Shuanglang → Deer Lying Mountain → Wase Xiaoputuo → Wenbi village rainbow house → sunset at Lixiangbang, finish with night view at Xingsheng Bridge If you have good stamina, add Chongsheng Temple Three Pagodas on the evening of Day 3 or morning of Day 4. It’s close to the ancient city and won’t add detours. · ----- 🚗 Transportation tips (common pitfalls) · Long-distance: high-speed train directly to Dali station, bus 8 costs 2 yuan to the ancient city, shared ride to Erhai lakeside about 20 yuan · Haixi (ancient city → Xizhou direction): rent an electric scooter for 50–80 yuan/day. No motor vehicles allowed in the ecological corridor. Biking, sightseeing cars, or walking are best. · Haidong (Shuanglang → Wase → Xiaoputuo): don’t ride electric scooters! Haidong Road has many curves and strong winds from Xiaguan. Wet roads in the rainy season are slippery. Shared rides, car rentals, or self-driving are safer. Drive clockwise with Erhai always on your right. · Accommodation: first two nights in the ancient city or Caicun guesthouse (120–200 yuan for a Bai courtyard with a small yard), last two nights in Xizhou or Wase to see rice fields or lake views. Don’t book the popular first-line lake view right away; prices triple in peak season and feel less authentic. · ----- ⚠️ Final reminders · Ancient city silver jewelry, cheap travel photography, and roadside “10 yuan lake tours” usually have hidden fees. Don’t be tempted by cheap prices. · Book the Cangshan cable car one day in advance. It closes during thunderstorms and strong winds. Check the weather before you go. · Some mudflats in the ecological corridor are under restoration. Don’t go down to the mudflats on your own. Fines are minor, but damage is serious. · Bring lip balm and moisturizer. The high altitude dries out your lips. Dali isn’t a place for ticking off sights. Riding a small electric scooter to feel the breeze, squatting to watch the sunrise and zoning out is much more relaxing than rushing through attractions🌊. If you have questions, drop them in the comments. I’ll answer everything honestly.

Tucked away in the Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture of Yunnan Province lies "Weishan Ancient City." In stark contrast to Dali Ancient City, which has seen heavy tourist development, Weishan remains a rare gem where the essence of the "good old Chinese daily life" is vividly preserved. 《A Tranquil Ancient City Where Time Stands Still》 The first thing that strikes you upon entering Weishan is its profound serenity. Architectural complexes dating back to the Ming and Qing dynasties are still actively used today, serving not as "theme park" attractions for tourists, but as lived-in spaces where daily life seamlessly blends with history. Strolling through the old streets that radiate from the city's iconic "Xinggong Tower," you won’t hear the clamor of tourists. Instead, the air is filled with the chatter of locals socializing on the sidewalks and the occasional ring of a bicycle bell. It creates the mesmerizing illusion of stepping back decades—or even centuries—in time. 《A Crossroads of Architecture and Culture》 Recognized as the birthplace of the Nanzhao Kingdom, Weishan carries a profound historical weight that resonates around every corner. Most of the town's buildings maintain their traditional wooden framework, featuring intricately carved eaves. You won't find any flashy illuminations or overwhelming neon signs here. Yet, at dusk, as the street lamps gently flicker on, the silhouettes of tiled roofs against the twilight sky evoke an indescribable charm. Moreover, Weishan is a melting pot of diverse ethnic groups, including the "Yi" and "Hui" peoples, whose coexistence deeply enriches the local culinary scene. 《Culinary Delights That Capture Travelers' Hearts》 You can't talk about Weishan without mentioning its "food." The undisputed star is a noodle dish called "Ba Rou Er Si" (braised pork with rice noodles). This masterpiece features uniquely chewy rice noodles bathed in a rich, savory broth—a dish so incredible it justifies the trip alone. Beyond that, the town's street corners offer incredibly satisfying, rustic home-style dishes made from fresh local vegetables and medicinal herbs. You won’t find opulent fine dining; instead, the true essence of travel is found in sitting on a humble stool at a small food stall, sharing a smile with the local vendor over a steaming bowl of noodles. 《Discovering Authenticity Off the Beaten Path》 Weishan Ancient City doesn't rely on long lines at major attractions or spectacular shows. Its beauty lies in the rustling of leaves in the breeze, the weathered textures of ancient walls, and the warm, tranquil smiles of the locals going about their days. It is the perfect destination for experiencing the "luxury of doing nothing," rather than a fast-paced trip focused on efficiency and consumption. Amidst China's rapid waves of development, an ancient town that stays so true to its roots is extraordinarily rare. Tracing the memories of old times and walking at your own pace. For travelers who prefer such quiet journeys, Weishan promises to carve unforgettable memories. When you want to escape your noisy daily life and simply feel the breath of history in peace, please pay a visit here. The forgotten "original landscape" of China still remains unchanged there. This hidden gem is the perfect spot to forget the rush of modern life and just take your time wandering. [How to Get There] It takes just under 30 minutes to travel from Dali to Weishan by high-speed rail. From the station, the ancient city is about a 30-minute walk. Local buses are also available. If you're short on time, booking a ride via a ride-hailing app is your best bet.

Wenhua Academy, located in Dali's Weishan Ancient City, is a core part of the Nanzhao ancient architectural complex and the best-preserved traditional academy in western Yunnan. With its exquisite Bai ethnic wood carvings, magnificent ancient architecture, and profound scholarly atmosphere, it's a must-visit cultural landmark in Weishan. ✨ Must-See Highlights 1. The Masterful Wood Carvings of Shuxiang Pavilion As the centerpiece of the academy, Shuxiang Pavilion represents the pinnacle of Bai wood carving art. Its doors, beams, and pillars are intricately adorned with layered, finely carved motifs of flowers, birds, mythical beasts, and folklore. It’s widely celebrated as a "living museum of wood carving." On rainy days, as water trickles from the flying eaves, the wooden structures take on a warm, polished glow, further enhancing the pavilion's antique charm. 2. Grand Wooden Architecture and Captivating Lighting The academy's main hall features an all-wood structure with towering pillars and interlocking brackets. Looking up, the striking arrangement of wooden beams and roof tiles strikes a perfect balance between grandeur and refinement. When sunlight streams through the wooden lattice windows, the light and shadows dance across the floor and ancient guqin, creating a dynamic, picturesque scene perfect for travel photography. 3. The Ancient Charm of the Academy Stepping into the courtyard, you are greeted by ancient trees, stone steps, and blue-brick pathways. Paired with the ethereal melodies of the guqin, the ambiance transports you back to an ancient place of learning. Compared to the bustling Dali Ancient City, Donglianhua Village in Weishan harbors a piece of horse caravan history dusted off by time. Stepping into the village, the red dirt walls, bluestone-paved paths, and historical buildings blending Chinese and Western styles are all inscribed with century-old stories. The most breathtaking sight is the Donglianhua Mosque in the heart of the village. It is not only a rare architectural fusion of Chinese and Western aesthetics in Yunnan but also a crucial witness to the bustling caravan trade of the past. Faintly visible painted patterns adorn the archways, while the upturned eaves and intricate wood carvings on the roof perfectly merge Islamic and Bai architectural features. Looking down the alleyway, these ancient structures look exceptionally stunning against the blue sky. There is no commercial vibe here, just locals living their peaceful lives. The walls of the old courtyard houses still retain their original colorful murals, and moss grows in the crevices of the cobblestone alleys. Walking on the stone paths polished smooth by time, you can almost hear the echoing bells of the ancient horse caravans. It’s not a trendy tourist hotspot, but rather a place that lets you slow down and truly understand the history of the ancient trade routes. 📌 Quick Tips: · Free admission. Please mind your manners and dress modestly when entering the mosque. · Highly recommend visiting Weishan Ancient City together, as they are very close. · Wear retro-toned clothing; it perfectly matches the vibe of the red dirt walls and ancient buildings. · The village isn't huge, so a leisurely 1-2 hour stroll is plenty of time. If you want to escape the crowds and experience the most authentic ancient village in Yunnan, Donglianhua Village is the place to be. Here, time seems to stand still in the era when horse caravan bells rang through the streets and alleys.

If you're tired of the hustle and bustle of the big city, I highly recommend checking out "Changchun Cave" on Weibaoshan (Weibao Mountain) in Weishan. This place isn't just a page out of history; it's a piece of "living, breathing art." The moment you walk in, the first thing you feel is absolute tranquility. The temple is embraced by lush greenery, but the highlight that left me in awe for ages is the "wood carvings." ✅ Why should you visit? · Masterpiece-level wood carvings: The doors and beams are intricately carved with auspicious motifs, mythical creatures, and Taoist immortals. The craftsmanship is so incredibly detailed that you'll hardly believe your eyes (just look at the photos I took—the lines and colors are still so vibrant despite the passage of time). · Classic architecture: The ancient Chinese layout features skylights and circular window frames that naturally act as "picture frames," making every angle stunning. The photos you take here will look absolutely premium and full of narrative. · Unspoiled atmosphere: There's no shouting from tour groups here. All you hear is the rustling of leaves and the faint scent of incense. It's perfect for those who want to truly soak in the authentic ancient Chinese vibe. 📍 Tips for my Thai friends: · Getting there involves a bit of a hike, so be sure to wear comfortable hiking boots or sneakers. · Weishan is not far from Dali. You can take the high-speed rail to Weishan Station and then grab a cab straight to the mountain. · I recommend setting aside at least 1-2 hours at this temple just to admire the intricate wood carvings. If you're planning a trip to Yunnan and want to experience the real "Unseen China," you absolutely cannot miss Changchun Cave. I promise the incredible photos and the amazing energy you'll get are well worth the trip! 🐲🏯

Shaxi Ancient Town | A Hidden Gem of the Ancient Tea Horse Road Between Dali and Lijiang If Dali is a bustling market and Lijiang a noisy theater, then Shaxi is a forgotten post station on the Ancient Tea Horse Road. Without excessive commercialization, it only has the weathered marks on the rammed earth walls, the ancient stone bridge over the Heihui River, and the slow-paced daily life of the locals. 📍 First Impressions of Shaxi: Time Slowed Down Walking into the ancient town, the stone slabs beneath your feet are polished smooth by time, flanked by old houses built of rammed earth and timber. Sunlight filters through the bare branches, casting fragmented shadows on the earthen walls. The alleys are free of crowds, with only the occasional sound of horse caravan bells and the low murmur of locals chatting in the sun, as if at any moment you might meet a horse driver carrying tea packages. 🌉 Sideng Street: A Living Fossil on the Ancient Tea Horse Road At the end of the stone-paved road lies the heart of Shaxi—Sideng Street. The ancient theater’s upturned eaves and painted wooden beams still bear century-old patterns, quietly guarding the Xingjiao Temple opposite. Passing through Dongzhai Gate, the Yujin Bridge over the Heihui River appears right before you. The bridge’s bluestone surface arches gently, with flowing water beneath. Standing in the middle of the bridge and looking into the distance, the mountains and village blend into one scene, each snapshot naturally radiating a soothing, filtered charm. 🕒 Leisurely Strolling in Shaxi: Living Life Like Poetry Shaxi’s beauty lies in its “unintentional” charm. No need to rush through attractions—just wander slowly along the alleys: watch locals drying green plums in their courtyards, listen to the tapping sounds from artisan workshops, or find a quiet corner to daydream while the sunlight stretches your shadow long. At dusk, the setting sun gilds the ochre rooftops, smoke curls gently from the alleys, and in that moment, you realize life here has never been a “performance” for tourists. 💡 Practical Tips · 🚌 Transportation: Take a shuttle bus from Dali or Lijiang to Jianchuan County, then transfer to a local minivan. The total trip takes about 1.5 hours. · 🕑 Recommended Stay: 1-2 nights to experience the empty streets at dawn and the star-filled skies at night. · 🧥 Clothing: The ancient town has a large temperature difference between day and night, so bring a jacket; the stone slabs can be slippery, so comfortable shoes are recommended.

Conclusion The beauty of Dali is the thousand-year watch of Cangshan snow and Erhai moon, the blue and white poetry of Bai tie-dye, the soft singing of folk singers under the ancient city walls, and a latte in a rice field café. It’s quiet but lets every visitor talk with the wind while cycling, touch time through tie-dye, and taste the freshness of the wild in mushroom hotpot. Come to Dali, let the clouds of Cangshan wash away your anxiety, let the waves of Erhai carry away your troubles, and let this "City of Wind, Flower, Snow, and Moon" become your eternal utopia. Tips: Dali is best for slow travel. Avoid the summer (July-August) and National Day holidays. The best travel seasons are March-May when spring cherry blossoms bloom and September-November when the weather is clear and cool. Bring your camera, good mood, and a heart willing to "waste time"—come to Dali and live a dream you never want to wake from.

It is recommended to stay near the Haixi Ecological Corridor. You can cycle around the lake along the Ecological Corridor or take a comfortable sightseeing bus to see Cangshan Mountain. The attractions on the Haidong Line are far apart. I drove myself. I first booked a free morning ticket to the Sun Palace, then visited Shuanglang and drove around the lake. You can stop at any beautiful attraction. I even came across a herd of cattle. The sunset at Shanhai Coffee is beautiful, and the sea view is vast. Day 1: Haixi Line Xizhou Ancient Town (take photos in the rice fields, and have a cheap meal) → Check in to a Haixi B&B → Longkan Wharf → Caicun Wharf → Xiaboping → Panxi S Bay → Langqiao Bridge. You can slowly cycle to all the popular photo spots. The restaurant for dinner is in S Bay, and the atmosphere is great. Day 2: Haidong Line Watch the sunrise at Caicun Wharf → Drive to Yang Liping Sun Palace Art Space (book a ticket to the Sun Palace in advance) → Xiaoputuo → Wenbi Village (great for photos) → Ideal State (not recommended) → Xingsheng Bridge (pretend you are in Europe) → Dali Ancient Town (have dinner at sunset) 🏠 Accommodation Tips: If you drive, it is recommended to stay in Haidong. Parking is convenient, but there are few facilities nearby, and it is inconvenient to eat. It is not recommended to stay in Dali Ancient Town (very crowded). If you don't drive, it is recommended to stay near Dali Ancient Town or Caicun, which are lively and convenient. ❤️ Outfit Tips: It is not too cold in winter, but you still need a thick coat. It is recommended to wear a light-colored dress and a cape, which is warm and photogenic.
