#tripmemory2022 The building with its distinctive shape was designed and constructed by architect Terunobu Fujimori. The building, designed with the motif of a quarry where the raw materials for tiles are excavated, is large and mysterious, with a cute little entrance. There are many things to see, such as a windowless building, a gaping hole in the building, and a staircase where light shines in. The tile workshop can be booked, and you can make your own work, so I recommend it! There was no time to meet for the experience on the day I went, so I bought a few tiles as a gift and used them for crafts at home. From September 1, 2022, the reservation system for the 500 yen workshop will be lifted for weekday experience studios, and reservations will be required only on weekends and holidays. 　 Recommended for people who love #art and have a hobby of #diy and #handmade!

#AutumnTravel #Trip2022 I went to Tajimi to visit Terunobu Fujimori's Mosaic Museum, which I had been wanting to visit. The building is modeled after a clay mountain, and you can look at it forever. There are stairs inside up to the 4th floor, but they are intentionally made a little thinner as you go further. The stairs are also made of straw and leaves...kneaded together with the soil. The building is modeled after a clay mountain, but it reminded me of pottery and clay figurines. Half of the 4th floor is unroofed, so you can enjoy the changes in the tiles depending on the weather. # Of course, if it rains, the floor will get wet. I had lunch with a drink at Swan Cafe. It seems that workshops can be held at both Swan Cafe and the Mosaic Museum. I didn't have time to do it, but I bought some tiles to take home. It was a really fun day.

I went to Tajimi City, Gifu Prefecture to be soothed by nature. 🌿 There are mountains nearby, and in a place where you wouldn't expect to find a stylish cafe, there is a cute cafe that only those in the know will know about! It is a renovated old house, and it is a very small shop with only 6 seats, so reservations are required ☺️ The plum ginger ale was refreshing and fizzy with a strong ginger flavor, perfect for summer and delicious!! ! ! ! #ForestBathing #PrefecturalDiscount 4-13 Mikasa-cho, Tajimi City

#epictravelmoments At first glance, this place looks like a giant mountain made of clay and bricks — unusual enough to make you stop and stare. But walk inside, climb all the way to the top floor, and the experience gets even more epic. The walls and ceiling are covered with countless pieces of colorful mosaic, while natural light pours in from the skylight above. As the light changes, the entire room seems to come alive — turning traditional brick craftsmanship into something that feels almost like an immersive art installation. 🌈☀️ What I love most is the contrast: a building inspired by humble bricks outside, and an almost magical world of light and mosaic inside. It’s one of those places you probably wouldn’t expect to find on a typical Japan itinerary — which makes discovering it even more rewarding. 📍 Tajimi, Gifu, Japan #japantrip #travel2026

#photovsrealitytravel Expectation: “Okay, it’s a cute little brick museum. I’ll walk around, take a few photos, and leave.” 📸 Reality: You arrive and suddenly find yourself standing in front of a building that looks like a giant clay mountain covered in bricks. Already pretty unexpected. 😂 Then you walk inside… and the real surprise is on the 4th floor. The ceiling and walls are covered in thousands of tiny mosaic pieces, and when sunlight pours through the skylight, the whole space transforms into this dreamy, almost otherworldly artwork. ✨ Expectation: a small museum about traditional brick-making. Reality: an unexpectedly beautiful art space that makes you want to photograph every corner. And the best part? You can even make your own little mosaic piece as a souvenir. 🎨 📍 Tajimi, Gifu, Japan #japantrip #travel2026

#adventuretrips Inside, the four-story space takes you through the fascinating world of traditional brick and tile craftsmanship: from the history and making of bricks to hands-on workshops where visitors can create their own little mosaic artwork to take home. 🎨 But the real surprise is waiting on the 4th floor. An open art space is covered from wall to ceiling with countless mosaic pieces. When natural light pours through the skylight above, the entire room comes alive with changing shadows, colors and textures — almost like stepping inside a giant kaleidoscope. ✨ 📍 Tajimi, Gifu, Japan 🕘 09:00–17:00 | Closed Mondays #japantrip #couplestrip

🌸How to make your spring trip to Nagoya romantic? Here are 3 one-day itineraries that let you take stunning photos and enjoy hot springs! ✅One-day Itinerary 1: Magome-juku, Tsumago-juku, Inuyama 🚗Transportation: From Nagoya Station, take the JR Chuo Line to Magome Station, then transfer to the Meitetsu Line to Inuyama Station. 🌸Photo Spots: 1⃣️ Magome-juku: This area preserves the atmosphere of the Edo period, with narrow cobblestone streets flanked by wooden Dozō houses, making you feel like you've traveled back in time. Come here in spring, and any photo you take will look like it's from a historical drama! 2⃣️ Tsumago-juku: This is one of Japan's three most famous hot spring towns. Its hot spring street is very charming, with the exterior walls of the Dozō (storehouses) painted red and yellow, looking beautiful with the cherry blossoms in spring. 3⃣️ Inuyama Castle: This is a famous "cherry blossom castle." In spring, the castle walls are lined with cherry trees, and combined with the ancient castle, you can easily capture stunning photos. 4⃣️ Inuyama Shrine: The vermilion torii gate (shrine entrance) here is very striking. In spring, there are rows of cherry trees in front of the shrine, creating an incredibly atmospheric scene. 5⃣️ Ena Gorge: In spring, the entire gorge turns pink, with wisteria flowers covering the mountain walls on both sides, resembling a painting. There's a special bus from Inuyama Station to Ena Gorge Onsen Village, which passes through many beautiful cherry blossom roads, making it a highly recommended experience. 🍱Food Recommendations: 1⃣️ At "Tsumago Yakki no An" in Tsumago-juku, famous dishes include "Tsumago Yakki" (a steamed chicken cake marinated in vinegar) and "Inuyama Beef" (a dish made from beef raised on local farms). 2⃣️ In Magome-juku, you can taste the local "Miso soup" (a soup made with tofu and miso) and "Magome Soba" (noodles made from locally produced flour).

Located in Tajimi City, Gifu Prefecture, the Mosaic Tile Museum is one of the signature works of architect Terunobu Fujimori. The building itself is incredibly charming and soothing, shaped like a small earthen mound to represent the soil, with tiny, subtle tiles embedded in its exterior walls that make it look like something straight out of a fairy tale. The exhibits inside are equally fascinating, and the staff are exceptionally welcoming. Getting there from Nagoya is quite a journey. It involves train transfers and a bus ride, followed by a long walk along the national highway and several hilly stretches once you veer off the main road. Taking a taxi or driving yourself would definitely be much more convenient. The tour route starts by taking the elevator to the top floor and then descending floor by floor. The museum is divided into sections covering mosaic displays, the history of tile manufacturing, and modern interior design. The gift shop on the first floor is fantastic, and they even offer DIY mosaic tile workshops. Due to the language barrier, I simply bought some individual tiles to take home and decorate an IKEA picture frame—it was so therapeutic! 🩵 My visit took place in late December 2022, right as the border was reopening and masks were still the norm. Luckily, the walking route was almost empty, allowing me to take my mask off for a while. There was still some snow on the ground, though it had mostly melted by the time I arrived at noon. While vending machines along the path were a nice energy boost, I do regret not stopping at one of the nearby cafes to rest. ps. After touring the museum, I grabbed some yakisoba from a food truck in the plaza. It was packed with meat and absolutely delicious.

Long story short, this museum really left a lasting impression on me. At first glance, the exterior looks like a giant "dirt mound." But the moment you step inside, it's like stepping into a whole different world. 👉 It honestly feels like you’re journeying underground. The contrast is just mind-blowing. ✔ What I loved ・ The building's design is truly one-of-a-kind ・ The tile exhibits are surprisingly fascinating ・ It’s incredibly photogenic ✔ What stood out the most 👉 The view from the rooftop and the open, airy vibe The surrounding landscape and the building blend together perfectly, making it a full-on "experience" rather than just a regular museum. ✔ Things to keep in mind ・ It's quite compact, so it's a quick visit ・ It gets hot in the summer (due to the open rooftop) ・ Access is a bit out of the way 👉 Who should go ・ Architecture and design lovers ・ Anyone hunting for highly Instagrammable spots ・ People looking for somewhere a bit off the beaten path 👉 Who might want to skip it ・ Those expecting a massive, sprawling museum ・ Travelers who prioritize super convenient access 🌿 Best time to visit ・ Morning → Fewer crowds, making it way easier to snap photos ・ Evening → The soft lighting creates an amazing vibe ◎ 👉 Verdict: Highly recommend going in the morning What I really felt after visiting is... 👉 "The building itself is the masterpiece" Instead of just looking at exhibits, it’s a place to really soak in the space. 📍 Location Mosaic Tile Museum 🚗 Access & Location (Save for later) ・ About a 10-minute drive from JR Tajimi Station ・ Buses are available (but run infrequently) ・ Parking is available 👉 Driving is definitely the smoothest way to get there 🎫 Admission & Info ・ Entry fee: Adults approx. 300 yen ・ Hours: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM ・ Closed: Mondays (always double-check) 🗺️ Around the area ・ Tajimi is known as the "Town of Pottery" ・ Highly recommend hopping around the local pottery shops ・ Lots of cute cafes scattered around 🎯 Pro tips for your visit ・ You absolutely have to check out the rooftop ・ Best route: Exterior → Interior → Rooftop ・ Focus on "light and shadow" when taking pictures

Tiger Creek Mountain Eihō-ji Temple: A Zen Painting in Autumn First, let's clarify the location. "Tiger Creek Mountain" usually refers to the mountain name where the ancient Eihō-ji Temple, built in the Kamakura period (1313), is located. This Zen temple, founded by the famous monk Muso Soseki, is itself a highly charming attraction. National Treasure and Famous Garden: The temple's Kannon Hall and Founder's Hall are designated Japanese National Treasures, while the pond-strolling garden featuring the "Muki Bridge" and "Wolong Pond" is also a nationally recognized scenic spot in Japan. Autumn Highlights: By late November, the stars here are not only the autumn leaves but also the giant ginkgo tree over 700 years old in front of the main hall. Its golden leaves intertwine with the surrounding fiery red maple leaves, together painting a serene and timeless Zen scene. 🌸 The Star of the Cherry Blossoms: Obara Shikizakura So, where are the cherry blossoms? Strictly speaking, the cherry blossoms are not inside Eihō-ji Temple but around it, especially in the Obara area of Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture, where the "Shikizakura" (Four Seasons Cherry) is widely planted. Rare "Autumn Cherry Blossoms": This is a very special cherry blossom variety (a hybrid of the Yae-zakura and Edo Higan cherry trees), notable for blooming twice a year—once in spring and once in autumn. What really made it famous is its spectacular bloom in autumn (from mid-November to early December). The Spectacle of Cherry and Maple Together: At that time, about 10,000 Shikizakura trees in the Obara area bloom simultaneously, with pink and white cherry blossoms meeting the red and yellow autumn leaves all over the hills. This "cherry and maple duet" is extremely rare in Japan and worldwide, as if spring accidentally wandered into autumn's embrace. Obara Shikizakura Festival: Every year from mid-November to early December, the local area hosts the "Obara Shikizakura Festival," during which the park transforms into a lively market where you can enjoy local delicacies, buy handicrafts, and immerse yourself in this seasonally limited romance. 🗺️ How to Experience the Autumn Essence of "Tiger Creek Mountain" in One Trip? Because of the exquisite garden of Tiger Creek Mountain Eihō-ji Temple and the nearby Shikizakura spectacle in Obara, this has become one of the most popular autumn day-trip routes in the Chubu region (around Nagoya).

If you are in Tajimi, this is a place highly recommended to pay a visit for half a day. We did not have enough time, they have workshop area for DIY mosaic ranging from ¥800-2,500 which takes about 40-60 mins to complete.

Kaoransui, Kokei Eihō-ji Temple, Obara Shikizakura—these places around Nagoya are quite far apart, which led to giving up on several attempts at Chubu autumn leaf viewing due to poor cost performance. This time, I originally planned a private car tour to cover them all at once, but surprisingly found a day tour that already includes all of them with a very reasonable price, so this one-day tour was confirmed: 1. The itinerary of this tour is very reasonable based on my experience, going clockwise from Eihō-ji Temple to Obara and then to Kaoransui. Travel time is short, avoiding peak times with most tourists, the time spent at each spot is just right, and Kaoransui also offers night illumination of the autumn leaves. 2. Kokei Eihō-ji Temple is not large, featuring a large ginkgo tree as its treasure (photo 2). Although it’s not as big as Kyoto’s Nishi Hongan-ji, it is tall, with a lake and a bridge, and the maple leaves are very red. Whether as a warm-up for this trip or for photos, it was very satisfying (photos 3-6). 3. Obara Shikizakura, from the perspective of the four-season cherry blossoms, is somewhat overrated, especially if you have already seen the cherry blossom season; it’s hard to compare. The mix with maple leaves can probably only be improved through post-processing (photos 7, 8). But this place has a Yakushi-ji Temple, which is quite nice. As long as you don’t mind climbing a few dozen steps, there are also quite red maple trees and a ground covered with ginkgo leaves, which compensates for the shortfall of the cherry blossoms (photos 9, 10). 4. Kaoransui truly deserves the title of the King of Chubu Autumn Leaves, with mountains covered in red leaves, rivers, red bridges, and a pretty good snack street. Highly recommend the Kōjaku-ji Temple on the mountain; a temple with a red leaf background is always the standard for Japanese autumn leaf viewing (photos 11-16). 5. The tour allows 3 hours at Kaoransui, but based on my experience, 2 hours is enough to walk from one end to the other and back, then wait until 5 PM for the illumination when it gets dark, which is completely sufficient. 6. At the snack street, I tried the ramen you have to hold the bowl while walking—just average, but good for trying something new and not expensive; at the market in the middle (opposite the wild boar meat skewers), the first okonomiyaki was huge, felt like 600 yen could serve 3 people, and it tasted good; the sweet potato chips were also quite tasty, though not very cost-effective.

#falladventures What is this place? Eihoji is a serene Rinzai Zen temple nestled in a narrow, forested valley in Tajimi City, Gifu. Founded in the 15th century, it is celebrated not for a single garden, but for its entire natural landscape being a "living garden." The temple grounds feature ancient moss, a tranquil pond, dramatic rock formations, and a meandering stream, all blending seamlessly with the surrounding nature. Why This Place for a Solo Traveler? This is the ultimate escape for the solo traveler seeking deep tranquility. Unlike the composed formality of a dry rock garden, Eihoji offers an immersive, organic experience. Walking the quiet paths through the valley feels like stepping into a different, softer world. Alone, you can fully appreciate the sounds of the stream and the profound peace of the moss-covered grounds, finding a perfect space for personal reflection and a true digital detox. Your Solo Itinerary: · Enter the Valley: Pass through the temple gate and immediately feel the shift in atmosphere as you descend into the secluded valley. · Follow the Path: Meander along the winding path that follows the stream, crossing small bridges and discovering hidden stone pagodas and statues. · Find Your Bench: Sit on one of the many benches scattered along the route, simply listening to the water and absorbing the lush green views. Essential Tips: · Visit during the rainy season (June-July) for the most vibrant, luminous moss, or in autumn for stunning fall colors. · Wear shoes with good grip. The paths can be steep and slippery, especially after rain. · Speak softly. The soundscape of nature is part of the temple's magic. Preserve the silence for yourself and others. #SoloMossGarden
