Danau Lau Kawar ⛅️
First time experiencing this view 😍 Breathtaking scenery and filled with peace. Campsite has the basic necessities such as washroom, charging ports & cantine (local coffee shops with various food & drinks). Worry less if you forget to bring any food essentials as the local coffee shops sells almost everything you need! You may also rent tents & huts! There are also boats, speedboats for rent to experience the amazing view at the danau 😍 It is affordable too 🤫 It gets cold & chilly at night! Do prepare yourself with some thicker clothings and socks! As a tourist, I do love it here & highly recommend you to come by here to discover the hidden gems in Medan ❤️#naturelover #medan
I found an affordable airport lounge, nice!
You deserve a good rest if you are taking flight after your trip in Medan❤️
Typically food price in airport, I’m sure you know it’s expensive, think about one food, one snack and one drink can easily hit more than RM50
But do you know?
Actually if you walk to the end of the international airport after customs, you can actually get to enjoy lounge access with only RM60
Buffet provided (free flow) of local food , coffee and tea
Important you got a nice space to rest
I hope you will enjoy a good break😉

Try Singapore’s Legendary Food In Medan🍖
#timetotravel
SONG FA is a legendary famous Bak Kut Teh shop from Singapore since 1969 serving pork ribs soup dish as their signature dish.
This time i try Song Fa Bak Kut Teh in Medan, Indonesia. What is Bak Kut Teh? Bak Kut Teh is a Chinese soup popularly served in Singapore.
The name “Bak Kut Teh” literally translates as “meat bone tea” and at its simplest, consists of pork ribs simmered in a broth of herbs and spices for hours.
Despite its name, there is in fact no tea in the dish itself; the name refers to a strong oolong Chinese tea which is usually served alongside the soup in the belief that it dilutes or dissolves the copious amount of fat consumed in this pork-laden dish.

Great Place To Eat Durians
Went here to eat durian with my big family during our holiday in Medan. We are all durian lovers & we were told that the durian here are nice & cheap compared to the ones in our home town. Indeed they are. Furthermore we are saved from the hustle of choosing & picking the good ones, cause the staff served all the good durians to us at our table, & when there was one that was a bit empty inside, they change it immediately for us. A truly recommended place to eat durian.
This place almost never runs out of the Durian fruit.
They will pick the fruit for you and almost always good.
If you are not satisfied you can change it
This is place is for the novice to the Durian lover enthusiast.
Good stuff and reasonably priced

Good location, in the center of the city, the road is one-way direction, so it may be more hassle, depending on the driving direction. Opposite is Deli Park Mall, the latest and largest mall in Medan, however, there is no easy access to the mall.
Consider is the most popular luxury hotel in Medan, this hotel is popular for its buffet restaurant, and the Chinese restaurant. The hotel also provides a fitness center and spa facilities with a swimming pool on the 17th floor.
The gym facilities are also open to the public. nonguest hotel with a fee. All visitors entering the hotel will pass a double security check, one is at the gate entrance and the other one is at the lobby entrance.
Overall, this hotel is one of the best choices to stay while you are in Medan.

A Cozy tea house in town!
People love coffee shop nowadays. And coffee shop is so easy to be found. But for tea lovers, finding a nice place to take a sip of tea seems not so easy. Tong Tji Tea House is one of the best Tea House in Medan, Indonesia. Here you can find different types of Tea. Jasmine, Lychee, Classic, and so many others. Don't worry about the taste, believe me it's really really good. And not only tea, here you can also enjoy your meal. The main course like Fried Rice, Fried Noodle, Mie Goreng Jawa, Traditional fried tofu, and so many others. If you like spicy food, you'd love what they cook in here. But if you don't like spicy food, you can simply ask them to make the food less spicy, and the taste remains unchanged. For me as a tea lover, this place is a very very good place to find my favourite tea and find something to eat. The price is also good. Yu have to try it. Believe me, you are not going to be disappointed.

From Medan to Lake Toba by public transport
#celebratewithtrip
I took the local bus from Amplas bus terminal in Medan to Parapat. (Rp 60,000) If you are taking the bus from Kualanamu Airport to Medan city (Rp40,000), take note that the bus may not stop right at Amplas bus station. I had to ask the bus driver to stop in the middle of the road and walked 20 min to the bus terminal. I think the new bus terminal is still under construction as of September 2022. The current terminal is made up of a few pondoks (stalls). No facilities there.
It was a 4 hours ride from Medan to Parapat through winding and narrow roads especially towards the end of the ride. As my hotel was located along the main road, I asked the bus driver to drop me off at my hotel but unfortunately he dropped me at the wrong hotel so I had to walk around 2 km to my hotel. Luckily a kind local gave me a ride on his motorbike.
The view of Lake Toba along the road was amazing! However the road conditions were bad. There was literally no space for pedestrians to walk. I felt quite unsafe walking on the road as I had to walk very close to the edge to avoid being run over by passing vehicles and constantly keep a look out for vehicles behind me.
There were many stalls and small restaurants along the main road. Most of them offer a very nice view of Lake Toba and the prices were cheap. The lake view from my room in Gapura Hotel was superb too!

Finding Shoreline Without Going To The Beach
I'm surprised by the beauty of this cafe & restaurant. I love blue, and this place feels like the 2nd home to me. It gives me the beach vibe without going to the beach. The blue tables and chairs, really nice to see. This cafe & restaurant has its own Coffee on their menu, and it's really good. They have coffee, tea, mocktail, juice, even Mojito and soft drink. For food, they have Fried Rice, Noodles, Burger, Croffle, Fries and many more. The price also really really good. Located near several universities in Medan, North Sumatra, this place is a really good place for everyone specially the students to hangout or just sit and work something with their laptops. The taste is good, the price is good, and they provide indoor and outdoor area. They also give FREE WIFI, That's nice!#cafe #restaurant #coffee #coffeeshop #medan #indonesia
Lake Toba Samosir Island, a tranquil haven
I planned a last minute solo trip Lake Toba after I decided to call off the trip the Cambodia due to the current situation. I chose to fly from Kuala Lumpur to Medan as the flight ticket was the cheapest. Lake Toba caught my attention after a quick check on Google map. Isn't it the world's largest crater lake that I learned about in high school Geography?
Getting There -
Take the bus from Amplas bus terminal to Parapat. (Rp 60,000) Then take a ferry to Samosir Island from one of the few ferry terminals in Parapat. I took the ferry from Pelabuhan Ajibata to Tomok (Rp 12,000)
If you are taking the bus from Kualanamu Airport to Medan city (Rp40,000), take note that the bus may not stop right at Amplas bus station. I had to ask the bus driver to stop in the middle of the road and walked 20 min to the bus terminal. I think the new bus terminal is still under construction. The current terminal is made up of a few pondoks (stalls). No facilities there.
Attractions -
Check out the last two pictures. I happened to pass by what seemed like a tourist information centre when I took a walk through Tuk-Tuk area. The poster shows quite a lot of attractions in Lake Samosir and the neighbouring regions which I can't seem to find much information on Google. I picked a few attractions and toured around half the island on a motorbike. It's a pity that I can't ride a bike so I hired a local to take me on the bike tour for one day. (Rp500,000)
Attractions visited:
Huta Siallagan, Batu Kursi Raja Siallagan ( Stone Chair of King Siallagan )
Batu Passa and Liang Sipogu
Beaches which include Sigurgur, Parbaba Beach, Pasir Putih
Aek Rangat (supposed to have a hot spring but it was not open. The guide brought me to a small restaurant next to it which had a tiny pool with hotspring water)
Bukit Burung (It's a lookout point further up the hill from Aek Rangat which many locals not know about. Happened to chance upon it on Google map. Even my guide didn't know about it!! So it was quite an accomplishment to bring him to a place that he had never been!)
Lake Sidihoni
Danau Aek Natonang
Batu marhosa
Air Terjun Sigarattung (Sampuran Na Pitu)
Parhallow viewpoint and coffee shop
Hotels - Hotel Tuk-Tuk Timbul
Stayed two nights in a traditional room. No air-conditioning but Samosir is generally quite cool at night. Thought there would be lots of mosquitoes but luckily there were not. Overall it was a pleasant stay.
There were many hotels and homestay which seemed to be deserted. I guess the tourism in Samosir has not really fully recovered.
Shopping - There was a shopping streets in Tomok with hundreds of stalls selling similar souvenirs. business was not good as there were not many tourists so just beware of over desperate vendors pestering you to shop.

One of the best Sushi Restaurants in Medan
SuShi Mentai is one of the best Sushi Restaurant in Medan. Fresh and delicious. I think it's the best place for a sushi lunch or sushi dinner in town. It's not the first time for me to have a sushi dinner here, but this time i'm so lucky. They have a great promo, it's a one price for all sushi. Only Rp.10.000 each. And it's worth it, fresh and delicious sushi in large size. I side large because this is the biggest sushi i ever ate. Normally i eat sushi in just one bite. But here it's imposible for me to do that. I even need 3 bites before i swallow the sushi. They have so many kinds of sushi. They also have noodles, snacks, and many others on their menu. The place is also comfy. This place is lovely! #sushi #restaurant #medan #indonesia #japanese

Bambu Ungu Resto, Funny Quotes here & there
This restaurant has its own uniqueness. You can find so many funny quotes in Bahasa. If you translate them in english you would be laughing. These quotes are basically romantic words written in bahasa but in funny ways. Like "Buanglah mantan pada tempatnya" means something like Throw your ex to his/her place. And it's written on the top of rubbish bin, giving you insctruction of something you have to do in funny ways. The foods are good but the weather is not. Super hot in here. They provide fan on each spot but seems like not helping cause the weather are extremely hot. I suggest you to come here at 4pm or after. Coming here at 12pm are not recommended at all.

Museum Perkebunan Indonesia, Medan
Museum Perkebunan Indonesia (Indonesia Plantation Museum) is one of beautiful museums in Medan, North Sumatra, Indonesia. It shows everything about Plantation Industries in Indonesia, specially Medan the 3rd biggest city in this country. From the time when the Netherlands came and started their business here, to the present day where the industries has been modernized. We can still find hand prints of the former workers in the past, with full describtion. The machine they use to produce the products, the raw material, and others. What surprised me is there's somekind of prison/jail (i don't know if this is real) on the top of the building. The guide told us about it and we came up and see. Another surprise was this museum has its own coffee shop or like a small cafe. Super Cozy and totally worth it. #medan #museum #indonesia #northsumatra #sumatra #history #plantation

Off the beaten track in Sumatra
Medan, the major city of North Sumatra, is not well known as a tourist destination, but besides being a convenient launch point for more popular sites like Lake Toba, it also has attractions of its own. The city has a very authentic, lived-in feel, not dressed up for tourists. It's worth spending a few days and getting a feel for life for average Indonesians.
Getting There - Medan airport is connected to the city by a rapid train, as well as taxis. Getting around the city is easiest by motorbike, so I recommend renting one. Lake Toba is also accessible by motorcycle (long ride).
Attractions - The royal palace, the seat of the local sultan, is partly open to tourists. Part of the palace complex is inhabited by members of the sultan's family. The museum, designed like the traditional houses of the Indigenous peoples of the highlands, gives a good overview of the local history, particularly of the Indigenous tribes. It was a helpful preview for me before going up into the mountains.
Food & Restaurants - There are many small eateries and a few fine restaurants and trendy cafés. Don't miss the Sibolang Durian Bar, where you can get an all-you-can-eat special on the stinky but sweet fruit.

Medan Lake Toba 2024
Hi, I’m done my trip in Medan last weekend. Actually Medan quite near Malaysia, it’s took 35-40 hours by plane from Malaysia. For my trip I’m decided to take supir because from one place to another place is quite far. Ground tour in Medan is not expensive, the costs around RM470 for 3 days 2 nights and RM550 for 4 days 3 nights. For the tour it’s including Hotel+transport+tour guide+ferry ticket to samosir island+ food for breakfast, lunch & Dinner+airport transfer. It’s so cheap! The best part we can follow our own itinerary 😁 the food that they serve is very delicious and halal😋 #trip #Travel #falltrip #localguides #Medan #historicallandmarks

🇮🇩 Lake Toba: Parapat to Samosir by ferry
#2024wish
I spent one night at Gapura Hotel in Parapat, a small town in North Sumatra on the edge of Lake Toba, before taking a ferry to Samosir Island. As a solo backpacker, transport is an issue when there is no public transport or ride hailing services like Grab and Gojek in Lake Toba area. As my hotel was about 5 km from the ferry terminal, I asked the front desk of Gapura Hotel if they could send me to the ferry terminal. Thankfully the staff was kind enough to send me to the terminal on motorbike. I offered to pay but the staff refused.
There are a few ferry terminals in Parapat offering ferry services to different locations in Samosir Island. The hotel staff dropped me off at the newly built Pelabuhan Ajibata. The new ferry terminal seemed to offer higher-end ferry services to tourists and I was told that there was no ferry available that day. The staff I approached at the new ferry terminal directed me to a small port next to it. That's the port where locals take local ferries to and fro Samosir.
And so I boarded the local ferry from Pelabuhan Ajibata to Tomok (Rp 12,000). The ferry runs regularly so there is no need to buy tickets in advance. The ferry conductor will collect ticket fees from the passengers one by one.
The ferry looked quite old and rundown but no complaints since the fare was so cheap. There was no air-conditioning too. There were also vendors selling snacks on the ferry.
I sat at the open deck to immerse myself in the beauty of Lake Toba and took lots of pictures! It's definitely an eye-opening experience for me. One should try to take the local ferry instead of the premium ferry for a truly local experience in Lake Toba regions!
