The famous mainland grilled fish restaurant has finally landed at New Town Plaza in Hong Kong.
Tan Yu Grilled Fish
This time, I'm introducing a grilled fish restaurant on the 6th floor of Phase 1 of New Town Plaza in Sha Tin called 'Tan Yu Grilled Fish'. This place is super famous on the mainland, and now you don't have to travel up north to enjoy it. What I like the most is actually their shaved ice dessert, which is unlimited for just $6 per person - such a great deal!
1. Fresh Green Pepper and Numbingly Spicy Grilled Fish (Lingbo Fish) $298 (8.5/10)
I ordered the Fresh Green Pepper and Numbingly Spicy Grilled Fish, made with Lingbo fish. It was my first time trying Lingbo fish, which has a smooth texture, but unfortunately, it has many small bones, so everyone really needs to be careful not to choke on them. The spiciness is not too intense, so even those who can't handle spicy food might find it acceptable. The fish is quite large, enough for two people to share, and comes with plenty of tofu, making the portion very generous!
2. Highly Flammable and Explosive Snack Group $68 (8/10)
This fried snack platter is not small in size, including fried chicken, fried enoki mushrooms, fried yam slices, and fried crispy meat. The fried chicken is tender, the fried enoki mushrooms are crispy, the fried yam slices are like eating shrimp chips, and the fried crispy meat is a bit chewy. If you like fried food, give it a try!
3. Molten Dual-Color Rice Cake $58 (9.5/10)
This rice cake comes in black and white, two pieces of each color. The texture is chewy, and the filling slowly oozes out when bitten into, not too sweet!
4. Sea-Land-Air Group (15 skewers) $68 (8/10)
This skewer platter has a total of 15 skewers, including squid, chicken feet, and beef. Each piece is small and convenient to eat, but not particularly good value for money!
5. Shaved Ice (Unlimited) $6 per person (8.5/10)
When I first ordered the shaved ice, I was really looking forward to it, but it turned out to be self-service. I don't know if it's because it was placed too close to the grilled fish, but the shaved ice wasn't very cold. The self-service area has over ten toppings to choose from. I personally prefer peanuts, raisins, and agar jelly balls. At $6 per person, it's really a steal, cheaper than a cup of lemon water at a tea shop!
The total price for two people was $554, including a 10% service charge.
Personal taste overall rating: 8.5/10

🪿Chess Piece Roast Goose🪿
Craving roast goose, I always think of the highly popular 'Chess Piece Roast Goose'. I adore the unique aroma of roast goose, and they insist on using 5-pound mother geese raised without antibiotics for their crispy skin and tender, juicy meat with a rich, oily fragrance. Today, I made a pilgrimage to their branch on Carnarvon Road, where the display window is filled with freshly roasted meats, irresistibly fragrant 😋
For two people, we naturally ordered the most cost-effective set meal for two, which for only $248, includes their famous roast goose, another roast meat of your choice, Chinese broccoli, two servings of rice or vermicelli, and two servings of soup or drinks 👍🏻👍🏻
🪿▪️ Chess Piece Roast Goose Signature Dish
Luckily, the chef gave us the goose breast portion 🤣. The roast goose skin is glossy and when bitten into, there's a smoky flavor. The skin is crispy, and there's a thin layer of fat between the goose meat and skin that's rich and overflowing with flavor. The goose meat is well-seasoned, tender, and juicy, and goes perfectly with a mouthful of fragrant rice.
🐖▪️ Single Mix Roast Meat Signature Dish
For the other roast meat, we chose char siu, which was equally outstanding. The char siu's surface is charred to a delicious crisp, with a perfect mix of fat and lean, tender and full of honeyed flavor 😔
🥬▪️ Countryside Chinese Broccoli
Eating roast meat, you must have Chinese broccoli to balance the greasiness, and this set meal really is well thought out 👍🏻
🍚▪️ Choose Two Servings - White Rice/ Vermicelli/ Rice Noodles/ Ho Fun
🍲▪️ Choose Two Servings - Traditional Soup or Hot/Cold Drinks

【No Money】dined at a playful restaurant located in Causeway Bay. 🍴🎉
Do you remember when I introduced No Money So Lonely in Mongkok a while ago? Its playful decor and authentic Thai cuisine made me and my friends very happy. Recently, they opened a new location in Causeway Bay. The new store has a mixed style, featuring tropical African vibes on one side and a Japanese cafe feeling on the other. The food also incorporates these elements, with some Japanese dishes mixed into the Thai menu. It's very interesting!
🔹Crab Meat Matcha White Curry Mi Tong ($118)
Mi Tong is similar to the sweet crunchy texture of Wang Wang cookies. The white curry is served in a small bowl with plenty of crab meat on top. It's not spicy but bursting with flavor. The combination of the sauce and Mi Tong creates a deliciously refreshing sweet and salty taste.
🔹Miso Grilled Cod ($208)
The beautifully presented Miso Grilled Cod is not oily and has a smooth texture. The saltiness is just right and the mashed potato underneath is equally flavorful and grainy. It's pretty good.
🔹Scallop and Wild Mushroom Tea-Flavored Rice ($148)
The dish comes with scallions, mixed mushrooms and a fragrant soup base. The pearl rice is dense and almost porridge-like after soaking up the soup. The overall taste is not too salty and the scallion flavor is prominent.
🔹Lychee Pulp Soda Ice ($?)
The ice is covered in lots of lychee pulp, creating a refreshing summer feeling. It's not too sweet and very thirst-quenching.
🔹Berry Soda Ice ($?)
More than half of the drink is made of mixed berries. At first, I was worried it would be too sour, but it's actually very refreshing with a perfect balance of tartness from the berries and coolness of the mint. It's a drink that gets better the more you drink.

【Flavors from Macau - Playful and Delicious Mix at Mildly Spicy Dai Pai Dong】
Mildly Spicy Dai Pai Dong has been open for some time, and I finally got to try their dishes without having to fight the crowds ☺️ The restaurant's design is perfect for Instagram, with multiple areas featuring different themes such as boats, dai pai dongs, and train carriages. It's a great place to dress up and enjoy the fusion of Macau and Hong Kong flavors. As for the food, in addition to their own creations, the restaurant has invited five Michelin-starred brands from Hong Kong and Macau to join them, ensuring that you get the most authentic flavors. So be sure to bring some friends along and order plenty of dishes to share!
🔹Chilled Fresh Octopus
Chilling the octopus enhances its crunchy texture and flavor, so you don't need to add any sauce to enjoy it.
🔹Salt and Pepper Pork Tendon
This was my first time trying pork tendon cooked with salt and pepper, and it was a great combination. The crispy salt and pepper coating was flavorful, and the pork tendon was thick and juicy, with a rich and savory taste.
🔹Grandpa's Exploding Intestines
This dish features fried pig intestines filled with sweet and sour sauce, which bursts out when you cut them open. Dip them in some sauce and enjoy the crunchy and tangy flavors. Highly recommended!
🔹Rice Wine Chicken
This dish requires a lot of effort to make, using the marinating method for beggar's chicken and cooking it in an ancient oven. The server will light up the white rice wine in front of you, and the aroma of the wine and lotus leaves will fill the air. The chicken is tender and smooth, and the rice wine adds a special touch. Don't forget to try the golden needle mushrooms and black fungus on the side, which are salty and fragrant.
🔹Salty Lemon Crab
This dish features a large and juicy crab covered in vermicelli and mixed with a special salty lemon sauce. The sour and salty sauce enhances the freshness of the crab, making it a satisfying dish.
🔹Lemongrass Seafood Medley in Pressure Cooker
The oysters used in this dish are of sashimi grade from Jiangmen, and cooking them in a pressure cooker preserves their original flavor. The oysters are not sandy or fishy, so they are cooked without adding water and then mixed with ginger, scallions, and coriander to enhance their freshness.
🔹Curry Beef Brisket and Tendon
The curry sauce is made by boiling oil and adding potatoes, Brazilian bay leaves, and beef brisket and tendon. The beef brisket is tender and flavorful, and the potatoes are well-seasoned and slightly powdery. The beef tendon is soft and goes well with rice.
🔹Yelo Curry Fried Crab
The crab meat is tender and juicy, and the curry sauce is made with over ten kinds of spices, as well as sand ginger, ginger, scallions, and onions. The shrimp broth is added to the sauce to create a unique flavor that complements the crab.
🔹Crab Congee
The congee is thick and creamy, with plenty of fresh crab meat. You don't need any tools to enjoy the crab meat, and the portion is generous enough for sharing.
🔹Tai O Dried Shrimp and Meat Patty Claypot Rice
The claypot rice is cooked slowly on volcanic rock, creating a uniform layer of crispy rice without burning it. The dried shrimp is large and salty, and the sweet soy sauce enhances the flavor of the meat patty. It's perfect for a winter meal.
🔹Hokkaido Lemon Tree
This super-sized drink cup is filled with sweet and sour lemon smoothie, which is just the right amount if you're trying many dishes. It helps to cleanse your palate and reduce the spiciness. It's also great for sharing between two people.
🔹Pork Chop Bun
The bread is soft and fluffy, and the pork chop is thick and juicy, with a rich flavor. The bread is definitely the highlight of this dish.
🔹North Point Egg Waffles
The egg waffle mold is larger than usual, and the waffle has a rich and crispy texture with a strong egg flavor. It's not hollow in the middle, but it's not too dense either. It's still delicious even after it's been sitting for a while. You must try it!

【Kowloon City Industrial Style Cafe】
This cafe is a bit far from the subway station, but I still love coming here. The rectangular design of the front and back areas has two different styles, and the color tones and decorations used in the interior design are very distinctive and personalized. It's also a pet-friendly restaurant.
🔹 Bacon Benedict Egg $88
I originally thought that the price of Benedict was a bit expensive, but after eating it, I felt that it was worth it 😂 The degree of egg custard is just right, and the rich egg flavor is mixed with Hollandaise sauce. When eaten with crispy bacon slices and chewy bread, the taste and texture are very even.
🔹 Smoked Chicken Caesar Salad $78
This salad has a generous portion, and the preparation is not sloppy. The smoked chicken has a more prominent aroma and a solid texture with a bit of chewiness. It doesn't have a lot of salad vinegar added, so you can taste the fresh and refreshing taste of the salad.
🔹 Espresso Tonic $45
The nutty flavor of the coffee beans is very prominent, and the ratio of espresso to tonic is just right. There is a hint of lemon in the middle, and the slight sweetness makes the drink more thirst-quenching. Highly recommended.

【Sheraton Hotel's Black Pearl Refined Chinese Cuisine】
I often come to Sheraton Hotel for Western food or afternoon tea. Finally, I had the opportunity to try the highly acclaimed Chinese cuisine at the Tianbao Palace, which has won the "Black Pearl Restaurant Guide" one diamond for five consecutive years and has been recommended by the Michelin Guide Hong Kong and Macau 2023. The restaurant has launched the "Black Pearl Set Menu" with different wine pairings, and the experience was truly unforgettable.
🔹Pan-fried Foie Gras with Scallops
Using delicate scallops as the first dish was a wise decision. The dense and salty French foie gras was added bit by bit onto the fresh and succulent American scallops, creating a distinct taste. The crispy and salty fried dried scallop on top was the finishing touch, adding another layer of freshness to the dish. The wok cake remained crispy even at the bottom, and the essence of different seafood sauces made it not too dry, but flavorful enough.
The first wine pairing was the Parisian Flower Extra Brut Champagne from France. This champagne was very refreshing, not too sweet, and had a lot of bubbles that could awaken the taste buds. The light golden color was charming and matched well with the Chinese cuisine.
🔹Fish Roe and Egg White with Lobster Ball
The lobster ball made with fresh lobster meat was chewy and bouncy. The lobster meat was firm and not powdery, giving a truly fresh feeling. The smooth egg white tasted like tofu pudding, mixed with precious sturgeon caviar, and the salty taste was fully replenished. Paired with the Kinhiraka Daiginjo from Niigata Prefecture, the fresh taste of the sake magnified the flavor of the lobster. This sake was easy to drink and had a taste that made you want to keep drinking. Highly recommended!
🔹Braised Bird's Nest Soup with Crab Meat and Bamboo Piths
The bird's nest soup, which is nourishing and beautifying, was topped with salty Jinhua ham shreds. The soup had a strong Jinhua ham flavor, and there was fresh crab meat inside. The best part was that the crab meat was large pieces, not shredded, giving a fresh taste and texture. The crispy bamboo piths and generous amount of bird's nest made it very satisfying.
🔹Braised South African Abalone with Oyster Sauce
The South African Jumbo Abalone was covered with a thick and flavorful sauce. The abalone had a chewy texture, and the spinach sprouts on the side were very tender. The mild taste of the spinach and the sauce matched well, and when paired with the fruity Chateau de la Marquetterie, the outstanding flavor of the abalone was brought out, leaving a lingering aftertaste in the mouth.
🔹Snowflake Stuffed Codfish
A lot of effort was put into making this codfish dish. The crispy outer layer was stuffed with fresh shrimp paste, making the texture more solid. The codfish was not easy to fall apart, and the fresh seafood flavor mixed with the sweet sauce was not greasy at all. The broccoli and fried rice fish slices on the side were crunchy and unique, adding a lot of points to the dish. The dish was paired with the Italian Ramazotti Red Wine, which had a strong grape aroma due to being aged in a large wooden barrel for three years. Its sweetness made the taste of the fish more distinct, and the wine was smooth and transparent. This was my favorite wine pairing.
🔹Fried Pork Sauce with Minced Meat and La Mian
The Inaniwa udon noodles were thinner than the usual fried sauce noodles, giving a smoother feeling when eaten. It was not too filling, and the homemade fried pork sauce was salty and sweet with a hint of spiciness. Even for someone who doesn't eat spicy food, it was still acceptable and could help to relieve greasiness, making it more appetizing. The overall combination was surprising.
🔹Dessert Collection
The four most popular desserts for girls were served together: Mango Pomelo Sago, Coconut Pumpkin Cake, Mini Bird's Nest Egg Tart, and Gold Foil Sesame Roll. Start with the Coconut Pumpkin Cake, which has a flowing filling that is slightly sweet with a milky fragrance. The outer layer is not too thick, and I really like it. The Gold Foil Sesame Roll has a sticky texture and a strong sesame aroma. Each dessert has a distinct contrast, and after finishing them, the perfect ending to the dinner was achieved.

【Tasting Master-level Omakase in Hung Hom】
"The so-called 'Chef's Bulletin' is when a chef brings back what he has seen and heard to his customers," said Chef Liu Jinwei (Master Wei) during my experience at "Edo Sushi Show." This experience truly allowed me to taste Master Wei's experience, as well as his sincerity and skill in each dish. The restaurant has a 7-meter-long hanging scroll of "gyotaku," a Japanese art of fish printing, with lifelike fish leading us to prepare for the distinctive dishes. The seven-course meal that day mainly revolved around "fish," and specifically selected fish with rich oil fragrance. Omakase has different combinations, with 14 and 16 courses for lunch, and 15, 19, and 21 courses for dinner. After tasting Master Wei's creations, it is definitely worth the price.
🔹Lime and Yuzu with Flounder
The flounder comes from Hokkaido. The crystal-clear sashimi is layered with seasoning, lightly sprinkled with rock salt to bring out the freshness, and added with a slightly sour lime juice. The flounder's natural freshness and refreshing taste are present in every slice, making each one worth savoring.
🔹Kyoto Scallion Shredded Mackerel
Many people are afraid of mackerel because of its inherent fishy smell. However, Master Wei confidently guarantees that everyone will love this dish. The ingredients use Kyushu Seki mackerel, paired with special sauce, and the most important point is the shredded Kyoto scallions that took a lot of effort to prepare. Its aroma and taste, combined with the full-bodied mackerel, completely mask any fishy smell and instead provide a rich and refreshing taste.
🔹Vinegar Gelatin with Geoduck Clam
Geoduck clam has always been my favorite ingredient. Master Wei specially cut it into strips, which is a more prominent texture. The fresh and high-quality geoduck clam emphasizes its sweetness and mineral flavor, so adding vinegar gelatin and yuzu juice is the best way to eat it. The mouth is full of freshness, and the appearance is also exquisite.
🔹Applewood Smoked and Grilled Red Tilefish
The red tilefish from Fukui Prefecture is first burned with a blowtorch until the skin turns golden, and then smoked with applewood. It is recommended to eat it immediately after lifting the lid, so that the applewood aroma can be fully absorbed by the fish. The red tilefish melts in the mouth, and the full-bodied fish oil and sauce slowly drip onto the cucumber shreds below, providing a comprehensive taste.
🔹Grilled Leftmouth Flounder Skirt Sushi
The leftmouth flounder is first grilled until it is 80% cooked, and its shiny oil is placed on top of the sushi rice with a golden surface. It is then wrapped in crispy seaweed and eaten in one bite. The rich fish oil explodes in the mouth, and the oak aroma seeps into the fish, making the aroma richer. Master Wei's rich and sweet secret sauce is the final essence of the sushi, highly recommended.
🔹Secret Sauce with Steamed Hokkaido Abalone
When I saw abalone sauce, my eyes lit up because if the abalone is fresh enough, that sauce will make you want to eat rice non-stop. Master Wei uses Hokkaido abalone, which is particularly thick and has been steamed for four hours, allowing the abalone to fully absorb the sauce. It is refreshing and tasty, with a particularly noticeable freshness, and the unique creamy sauce has a milky fragrance, making it especially suitable for rice. After eating, I was completely satisfied.

【Cultural center: Enjoying delicacies and the taste of books】
When you visit the Cultural Centre, don't miss this trendy restaurant. It has a bar on one side and a dining area on the other, as well as a library-like corner. Every corner of the venue is perfect for taking photos and it's also a great choice for gatherings.
🔹 Vegan Truffle Fries $78
This dish has a generous portion of fries, served hot and spicy, and is really delicious. The fries are crispy and salty, and the truffle sauce is very flavorful. However, it's already delicious even without the sauce, so most of the time I don't dip it 😂
🔹 Seafood Platter $298
The platter includes shrimp, scallops, sea bass, squid, and more. It's very rich and the marinade is well-seasoned and tasty. I recommend starting with the sea bass, because the fish is really tender and substantial, with a crispy outer layer. It's also delicious even without the sauce. As for the scallops, they are slightly spicy and chewy, which is not bad. The potatoes are cooked very tenderly, and you will feel full after eating it.
🔹 Australian Broccoli with Dutch Sauce $88
I recently fell in love with Australian broccoli, so I always order it when I see it. This dish adds Dutch sauce to enhance the flavor, which is refreshing with a slightly sour taste. It's actually very appetizing.
🔹 Passion Fruit Lactic Acid $48
The passion fruit flavor is very prominent, and the sour and sweet taste matches well with the lactic acid. The sweetness is not too high, and it's also a refreshing choice.
🔹 Osmanthus Coffee Soda $48
I really like this espresso tonic. It looks delicate, and the crushed osmanthus really emits a fragrance. The coffee soda is refreshing with a slightly sweet taste, which can balance the greasy feeling of the former. It's a must-have for coffee lovers.
🔹 Raspberry Cream Frosting with Candied Strawberries and Meringue Cookies $98
This dessert has a very eye-catching appearance and is worth a try. The outer layer of strawberry foam is full of air, and you can also feel the acidity. It may be too sour to eat alone, but when eaten with the ice cream inside, the sweetness balances the overall taste. It's a refreshing and not too sinful choice.

This restaurant in the Wan Chai Toy Street exudes a strong retro vibe from its storefront. The interior is designed in a nostalgic cha chaan teng style, with many photo-worthy spots. The restaurant uses vintage utensils from childhood cha chaan tengs. The owner hopes to take everyone back to the old times in this busy modern life. The restaurant has invited a star chef to prepare a series of Cantonese dishes and dim sum. Among them, the BBQ pork bun, shrimp dumplings, siu mai, seven-flavored tofu, yuzu chicken and pineapple sweet and sour pork are really of high quality. You must order them when you come here!

【Tasting Peruvian Cuisine at the Oasis in Central】
Central has many restaurants with exotic flavors. The restaurant we went to that day had a unique layout, with a mysterious Middle Eastern-style interior and a courtyard-like outdoor area reminiscent of a tropical rainforest. The restaurant specializes in Peruvian cuisine, with few starchy main dishes. Most people mainly eat meat and seafood. It's worth noting that it was selected as one of the top 50 restaurants in the world, so it's definitely worth experiencing.
🔹Corn tempura $90: The corn balls are fried to look like meatballs, with a rich flavor and many sweet corn kernels inside. They are salty and fragrant enough that I think they taste good even without egg yolk sauce. Highly recommended.
🔹Octopus $240: The octopus has a chewy texture and a distinctive freshness. It's paired with a yuzu sauce that's sour and appetizing, and there's also a charred sauce that makes the flavor more profound. If you like seafood, you must order this.
🔹Scallops $180: The scallops have a fresh appearance and are full of flavor. They have a chewy texture and burst with salmon roe. They taste better than expected, and the sauce is good and rich in oil.
🔹Charred broccolini $90: The Australian broccolini is shiny with oil. There's miso sauce on the side for dipping, but I think it's already flavorful enough on its own and very refreshing. The miso sauce makes the flavor richer, and as a "dish," it's definitely representative.
🔹Xoxo chicken $135: It's a bit like fried chicken, with a crispy texture and a fragrant taste that's not greasy. Order a little special egg yolk sauce, and it's a perfect match for wine. The portion is also quite large.
🔹Chicha morada $90: This cocktail with purple corn makes the whole drink a mysterious purple-red color. It's sweet and a bit like soda.
🔹Old Tom & tonic $130: If you like refreshing drinks, this one is a must-try. The grapefruit flavor is very strong, and when combined with tonic, it's full of freshness. It's also very easy to drink, and it's a large glass.
🔹Alfajor $90: This dessert is a bit like banana cake soaked in juice, very dense, and on the sweet side. The condensed milk makes the cake thicker, and there are also pieces of sugar cake with a wonderful texture. It's very interesting.
