A Taste of France in Canada

Quebec City will make you forget you are in North America. The French signs, the cobblestone roads, the cafes and French cuisine, and the European style gardens and architecture made me feel like I was across the Atlantic Ocean and wining and dining in a small French town. There’s a beautiful lake, and in the summertime there are outdoor performances and fireworks by the water. Cuivre, a French restaurant in Shanghai that truly stole my heart. From the unique decor and furniture to the elegant art and fantastic menu selection, I enjoyed every bit of my visit. The herbed bread was wonderful, the salmon entree was to live for, and the ratatouille was as I remembered from my visit to Paris. Ginett can get quite fully booked in the evenings, especially on oyster night where they sell oysters for $1 each. We had the set lunch instead, which was equally worth it. For $26, you get a complimentary bread basket, a starter, a main, a dessert and a coffee or tea! The portions were more than sufficient and the food tasted great. Super value for money. Address - Saveur Bistro, 5 Purvis Street, #01-04, Singapore 188584 Situated in one of the heritage shophouses along Purvis Street, Saveur Bistro serves up delicious and affordable French cuisine! The interior of the restaurant was strangely bare though, making the ambience feel colder and less inviting. But what really stood out here was the food! Our starters were well cooked and tasty. The Scottish salmon main was cooked fairly well, with most parts of it moist and some parts of it dry. We ended the meal with a lava cake and chocolate ice cream. We got to dine at two restaurants during our stay here at Hotel G with our staycation package inclusions. Armed with our $50 dining voucher, the first restaurant we headed to was Ginett restaurant for dinner. The food was pretty good and portions were filling. I had the vongole tagliatelle while my husband had the scottish salmon. We came down to the second restaurant, 25 Degrees Burger Bar, for breakfast the next morning. They had a few different mains to pick from – we ordered the American breakfast and eggs special. Every guest is limited to only one set that comes with a serving of croissants, fruits and coffee or tea, anything more would require a top-up fee. Unfortunately, the food was really forgettable. The ambience was cosy and inviting despite the immense ceiling height, perfect for a romantic night out. I ordered the lobster roll, which was yummy and full of huge, juicy lobster chunks. My husband went for the wok-fried vermicelli, which turned out to be a little underwhelming. The staff here were warm and attentive, making the atmosphere a very welcoming one. However, prices were incredibly exorbitant. For what they were charging, we certainly expected much better quality and better tasting food. Dining delights at The St. Regis Hotel SG

There are many dining options within The St. Regis Hotel: Brasserie Les Saveurs, Yan Ting (loads of good reviews), The Drawing Room (ie. lobby lounge) and Shinji By Kanesaka. Astor Bar was temporarily closed and La Brezza has been permanently closed for a while already (the concierge staff shared that there are plans to transform it into a Japanese restaurant). Our staycation package came with a 3-course dinner at Brasserie Les Saveurs, exciting! We had a complimentary basket of bread to start us off before digging into our appetizers. My tuna salad was fresh and light and my husband’s French onion soup was very flavourful (chock full of onions but actually not much soup). For our mains, we had the pork loin (quite dry and plain) and the barramundi (soft and moist but tasted quite herby, clam velouté sauce was delicious). Finally, our dessert comprised an excellent Guanaja 70% dark chocolate tart (creamy and smooth, not overly thick, tart base was wonderfully crumbly) and a crème brûlée (nice texture and flavour but could’ve afforded to be less sweet). Generally, the food tasted pretty good but the only sore point was that the portion sizes were a bit lacking and we didn’t leave feeling entirely full nor satisfied. We had a 3-course dinner at Racines as part of our stay package. This restaurant’s design is chic and classy, with floor-to-ceiling windows creating a bright and breezy atmosphere in the day and contemporary chandelier lights bringing the place to life at night. For the appetizer course, I ordered the hamachi tartare while my husband ordered the wild mushroom soup. Both of us got the black angus beef rump for the main course and the basque burnt cheesecake for dessert. The food was refined, well-plated and delicious (except the beef rump as it was too rare for my liking). All in all, it felt like a real treat. We came back to Racines the next morning for our complimentary breakfast. Breakfast was ordered via a QR code link and served a la carte style with unlimited ordering. Dishes were served in tasting portions but you can choose to “upsize” to a big plate resembling a full meal portion. I like trying a little of everything at a buffet, so the tasting portion size was perfectly suited to my preference. Most of the dishes were yummy and we left the restaurant feeling satisfied. After a lot of hype and buzz around this restaurant, which the waiting crowd also proves again; finally we got the seat on a perfect sunny Friday morning. RAC cafe is an all-in-all French cuisine, so if you are looking for some amazing crepe of all kinds, then this is the place for you. We ordered the default crepe with egg and mushroom. And RAC combo which includes bacon, lettuce, bread and mushroom again. The perfect one for me is the sweet crepe, that gives me four dip options (caramel, chocolate, sugar syrup, and butter). Maybe it is too sweet for many of you out there 😜 but I'm totally satisfied. An interesting fact is that crepe looks exactly like the south indian cuisine Dosa, where the side dips would be made of coconut mashup, tomato mashup and coriander mashup all a bit spicy with chili. As the french too had colonies in India, not sure who got the recipe from whom haha. But overall, I love the fact food has traveled too, around the globe. The prices are also affordable at RAC cafe which makes it a great attraction. P.S. Their timings are 8 am to 10pm due to the huge crowd.
