Chilly but laid-back Tianjin
Tianjin is a modern city which is a 30 mins by train from Beijing. It's easy to visit if you're visiting Beijing.
Tianjin doesn't have as much to do as it's famous neighbor but it's still nice to explore and see some historic sites. For example, Tianjin has some foreign concessions so it has a flavor that kind of reminds you of Shanghai.
There are also a few small eats that are famous in Tianjin such as goubuli buns.
If you visit in the winter, you'll get a real feel of a cold winter that is missing from the southern part of China. Make sure you bundle up and wear plenty of clothes if you visit around winter time!

City With an Eye On a Bridge - Tianjin!
🤩Nestled along the northeastern coast of China, Tianjin is a captivating city that seamlessly blends its rich history with a contemporary skyline.
📚Tianjin's history dates back to the Ming Dynasty, making it over 600 years old. The city played a vital role in trade and diplomacy, serving as a gateway to Beijing through the Grand Canal. This historical significance is evident in the city's architecture, with charming colonial-era buildings lining the streets of the former concession areas.
🧭Stroll along the Five Great Avenues which is a picturesque district that showcases the city's colonial heritage. Marvel at the architectural diversity, from French Renaissance to Tudor-style houses. Each building tells a story of Tianjin's past and its cosmopolitan influences.
🏙️Tianjin's skyline is a testament to its rapid development. The city boasts some of the most innovative and futuristic architectural designs in the world. The iconic Tianjin Eye, a gigantic Ferris wheel built on a bridge over the Haihe River, offers breathtaking panoramic views of the cityscape.
Tips and Tricks ⁉️
💙Use APP's! This is a time when almost everyone has an access to the smartphone - take advantage of it.
💚Taxi or DiDi? We'll keep it super simple. If you choose to take a taxi make sure that the driver turns on the counter. Legally you don't need to pay anything on top of what the counter shows, even if the driver is insiting. If you need a reassurance just ask for the receipt 🧾. With DiDi you don't need to worry as all approximate costs are precalculated by the app. Just make sure that you can pay for the ride before you get in.
💛Translation! Despite Google translate leaving China it still works perfectly fine with written text. In case you're looking for local alternatives, we suggest "Baidu translate" or "Dear translate".
❤️Map! Sorry Google, but this time you are not my pick number 1. "Amap" and "Baidu map" do a great job to navigate you through streets and alleys of any city, town or village in China. Both of them support live city's public transportation tracking. Unfortunately not in every city though. One of our favorite functions is that we can search the location of a sight, hotel or attraction from Trip.com just by transferring the search directly to the navigation app. Click - Done!
Enjoy!🎡

Unique Porcelain House in Tianjin
For someone who loves Chinese porcelain vases, visiting this unique building in the heart of Tianjin was quite fun!
The building is covered with hundreds (if not thousands) of beautiful porcelain vases.
Inside the space is quite empty and the collection of Chinese furniture not really well displayed, so the main attraction is definitely the exterior part of the house, which is one of a kind.
A nice spot to check out when in Tianjin!

Italian Town in Tianjin 🇮🇹
Nice to walk around the Italian Town in Tianjin!
Pretty building all around, which reminded me of some of my home town in Italy...
The statue if our most important national poet Dante Alighieri...
and last but not least... some of the best Italian food at the Venezia Restaurant: pizza with mortadella, burratara and pistachio cream, and family recipe gnocchi, and some Italian beer
😋😍🍕🍺

Stay in Tianjin's Baodi
A small district of Tianjin is Baodi. Most famous for it's natural hotsprings, it will soon be accessible by high speed rail, very close to Beijing.
The town has recently been built up into a kind of resort. In the town there are restaurants, a museum, a temple, a golf course and the beautiful hotel pictured. Picturesque and perfect for a weekend getaway from Beijing.

Marvelous Porcelain House in Tianjin
Location: China Porcelain House Museum, Tianjin, China
Date: May 4, 2021
Porcelain House, also known as China house, is a contemporary museum of pottery and antiques in Tianjin. The house is originally a French style villa with a history of over 100 years. The museum is located in a historical colonial building.
About 80 percent of the porcelain used to cover the house comes from broken or damaged antiques, but the eccentric collector mixed up the different fragments and pasted them on the walls in such a way to conceal the damaged parts. In fact, most of them look intact.
The outside of the wall is decorated by vases, and they are called "Walls of Peace". Because "vase" sounds like "peace" in Chinese, the designers used vases to wish for peace and safety.
The house was open to the public on September 3rd, 2007. Since then it has become a landmark in Tianjin. The house is so extraordinary that it has no parallel in the world.
It’s very beautiful and definitely worth a visit. Because it’s a tourist attraction, so it’s usually very crowded. So you can admire the view from outside.

Tianjin Zoo
Tianjin Zoo is located in the south of Tianjin and is part of a large complex that includes a water park. The zoo has a long history, since construction began in 1975, and in 1980 the first visitors were able to appreciate the scale of this project. Over such a long period of time, the zoo has undergone many changes. However, the management managed to save a vast space (54 hectares), as well as fill the zoo with a variety of fauna from all over the world.
Before entering the zoo, tourists are given a colorful map in Chinese and English, with which you can freely navigate and easily move from one zone to another on foot or in a small train. The territory of the zoo is divided according to the thematic principle into several parts: "Tiger's Lair", enclosures with wolves and foxes, a pavilion with bears, "Monkey Paradise", a pavilion with various types of birds, as well as a huge aquarium. In the zoo, tourists have a wonderful opportunity - to see the diversity of the underwater world in the aquarium. The aquarium is without a doubt one of the best in the world. The collection of marine life here is interesting and unusual for its exotic fish and coral reefs.
The zoo is home to over 200 species of animals and about 2,000 individuals. Rare and endangered animals include the giant panda, the golden monkey, the Amur tiger, the Japanese crane, and the red panda. The most popular among the inhabitants of the zoo are the giant panda, tigers and lions, flocks of flamingos, hippos, giraffes and numerous monkeys. To visit this amazing place, it is recommended to take a whole. You will have the opportunity not only to enjoy communication with animals, but also to watch a fascinating performance organized in the central part.
Address: Tianjin Zoo, West Road Water Park, Nankai District, Tianjin, China. You can get to the zoo by bus number 12, 901 with the final stop Zoopark, and passing 52, 608, 685, 835. Near the park there is parking for car owners.

St. Joseph's Cathedral in Tianjin
St. Joseph's Cathedral (also known as Xikai Church (Chinese: 西開堂; pinyin: Xikāi Táng) is a Catholic church located in the central commercial area of Tianjin. Located at the southern tip of Binjiang Dao in Heping Hat. The cathedral is one of the protected historical relics of Tianjin. The church was built in 1911 under the name MG Church before it was renamed St. Joseph's Cathedral. It is the largest Roman Catholic church in Tianjin.
The church has an area of 1891.95 square meters and can accommodate 1500 people. A giant dome with a green copper surface on the outside, supported by a wooden structure and surmounted by a bronze cross. At the time it was built, the bishop refused to install a lightning rod on the dome, but 50 years later it was added. However, 80 years later, when the area became the commercial center of Tianjin, the church ceased to be the tallest building and therefore no longer required a lightning rod. The walls of the Xikai are tiled in red and yellow and lined with white waterstone. Round windows, columns, large interior paintings, a large organ and semi-circular windows accentuate the building. The entrance consists of two doors at the back of the Xikai. It was originally intended that men and women could enter through separate doors.
The interior of Xikai is based on French and Roman architectural styles. The long main hall is framed by 14 large columns (two rows of seven). The nave has a folded compound side portico supported by semicircular pinnacles. The high central dome consists of an octagonal drum roof that complements the octagonal windows throughout the church. Side windows - stained-glass windows with inlay. Painted, ornate frescoes, full of biblical scenes, cover the walls.
