The most Satisfying Soba in Okayama
We found this corner building in Okayama selling soba that was so attractive and decided to give it a try. In fact the restaurant’s name in Japanese is “ Noodle God of Wheat”!
There was a short line when we arrived and we waited about 15 minutes to get a seat. As usual, tickets can be bought at the machine near the entrance. We ordered the most attractive soba with 4 slices of pork lining the rim of the bowl. It just looked so good that we didn’t want to dip our chopsticks into it! The thick chicken broth was rich and full of flavor in every way while the soba- made in house - was cooked to the perfect texture! The gyoza were also fantastic- crispy on the outside and , juicy inside. Just delicious!
Definitely recommending this place for your soba crave when visiting Okayama ! Do note that their lunch session ends at 14:15; and there is a long 3 hours break before dinner session starts. Parking is available just across the road.

Getting to the art Island of Naoshima
#summerbreak
If you enjoy contemporary art, definitely make a visit to Naoshima. Naoshima is an island in the Seto Inland Sea, and can be easily reached by ferry. There are two ports with direct ferry to get to the island - via Uno which is a town 1 hour south of Okayama ; or from Takamatsu- which is a city in Shikoku.
The ferry time from Uno to Miyanoura is shorter- only 20 minutes (Takamatsu which takes 50-60 minutes), and there are more departures each day.
You can reach Uno by train, and just walk 5 minutes ahead toward the pier. Alternatively you can drive to Uno and park at one of the parking lots nearby. The daily parking rate could be from 500-1000 yen.
The signages to Naoshima pier are very visible, and the ticket office is just in front of the pier. You can buy ticket from the window or from the machine up to 10 minutes before departure. of course it is better to get there a little earlier just in case there is a long line .
The ferry is large and comfortable. it is even painted with the signature red dots by Yayoi Kusama. You will definitely not miss the red pumpkin as soon as you arrive to the Miyanoura port. The lower level of the ferry is for cars, while the middle is air-conditioned with comfortable seats. The upper deck is great to enjoy the sun and breeze as the ferry sails to Naoshima.
There is also a service from Uno to Honmura on the east side of the island - but with only 5 sails per day.

Travel back in time - Kurashiki Bikan Quarter
#summerbreak
The Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter is in the center of Kurashiki- Okayama Prefecture in Japan. It is about 10 minutes walk from the Kurashiki train station and is less than 1 hour from Okayama by car.
The historical quarter is known for the white washed wall houses and willow trees than lined the Kurashiki River- dating from the Edo period ( 1603-1876). Many of the houses were previously warehouses and now converted to become shops, restaurants, and cafes. As Kurashiki is also considered as the birthplace of Japanese denim, it is worthwhile to stroll through the many boutiques that offer the wide collection of the district’s indigo products.
Another highlight was the Ohara Museum which was Japan’s first museum of western art - including works by Monet, Toulouse- Lautrec amongst others.
The walk along the canal is beautiful both day and night. The gentle wind, flowing willow and sound of the canal brought feelings from the past. There are also rickshaws and boat rides for visitors to have fun on a clear day. Definitely a good place to spend a day while in Okayama.
