BACK IN GOPENG’S GLORIOUS DAY
LOCATION: GOPENG HERITAGE HOUSE
Gopeng Heritage House was opened in May 2011. It is located in the middle of the Gopeng town. Have you been to Muzium Gopeng? It is a short walk from Gopeng Heritage House which is only 2 minutes away.
For your information, Gopeng was a tin mining town for about 100 years from 1870s onwards. Heritage House contains display items from Gopeng’s glorious day which was collected from 100 years ago. The Heritage House belongs to Gopeng Museum treasurer, Wong Kuan Cheong, and he is also the main contributors’ of the antique display at the museum. The Heritage House aimed in promoting Perak’s history, especially for the younger generation.
Gopeng Heritage House is a three floors building. On the ground floor, it exhibits some of the Chinese furniture, ornaments and ceramics. Near the entrance is an antique mirror hall stand of European appearance, a grandfather clock, an ancient fan and a mock up of a barber’s shop complete with old style barber’s chair. Opposite to the barber’s shop, there is a feng-shui air well filled with bonsai trees. They believe that Bonsai tree, symbolise harmony, peace, order of thought and balance.
On the first floor, you will found a couple of bedrooms and sitting room. The arrangement of the bedroom itself is quite interesting as it is more into Chinese Traditional Bedroom. During the 1980’s the bed is used by the Chinese family. On the bed, is Hakka’s traditional quilt called “Patchwork quilt”, which means good luck and safety.
On the third floor, there is another bedroom which is more into British style. Most of the furniture on this floor was made in Britain in 1920’s. There is a sofa set that look very classy and elegant. There is also other furniture such as old radios, clocks, lamps, torches, suitcases and gramophone records complete the displays.
Last but not least, if you are thirsty you can have a drink at the antique Kopitiam café which is attached to the Gopeng Heritage House. The cafe has two floor. On the top floor, there was a room, called as Musical Room. In 1890-1900, musical room, or known as nightclub are the only places for the teenager and wealthy men to relax. Track 2 (Dry Tour) - Gua Tempurung
An unplanned #cave trip after leaving #ipoh. Despite the unassuming entrance, you'll definitely be amazed by the deep and vast cave inside. Overall the cave is very clean and I will definitely come back to try the wet tour next time. #gopeng
