I recently took my second business class flight, so I'll give you an honest report! The flight I took was from Amsterdam to Hanoi on Vietnam Airlines' Airbus A350-900. I booked it using 47,000 ANA miles! [What I liked] ・I was able to use the KLM lounge at Schiphol Airport. →The KLM lounge has a wide variety of drinks! There's also a bar, and you can enjoy Heineken beer, a Dutch specialty! 🍻 ・Perhaps because it only started operating this spring, the business class section was practically empty! (Maybe it's a hidden gem of a route! ✨) ・The food was delicious! 😋 →Two meals were served on the 11-hour flight, with fruit and cheese in between. There were also snacks and desserts that you could order freely, and Vietnamese coffee, which was very satisfying! ・The seats reclined fully flat, making it stress-free even on long-haul flights. ・Even though it wasn't a flight to or from Japan, there was a Japanese language option in the in-flight entertainment system! 😳✨ 【Disappointing Points】 ・Since it wasn't a flight departing from Vietnam, the "special feeling" of the lounge and check-in counter was diminished. →The airline's home airport is definitely the best! ・The amenities were too simple...? →While it's inevitable to compare it to Thai Airways, I was personally a little disappointed with the design of the pouch and the contents. 💦 Unlike my previous flight with Thai Airways, I was very satisfied to experience business class on a long-haul route from Europe to Asia! Amsterdam is a place for foodie indeed. Mostly went to viral food spots. As I know most of these places are considered overpriced, I'm more likely to pay for a one time expensive food considering I'm there as a tourist. I went there with my sister so we always bought one portion of the things we wanted to try and shared that among each other. This way the price was shared equally and wasn't a big concern for us. 🫐 Het koekemannetje 8/10 The cookie had the perfect balance of sweetness. When we bought the cookie, it was still warm and fresh. I expected it to be overwhelmingly sweet but that wasn't the case. 🫐 Chun Cafe - 6/10 Overpriced. It was good but even as a tourist I thought it was ridiculously overpriced. I have satisfied my hunger and curiosity but probably can find another store with affordable options. However, with that said, the sandwich were very delicious. I had high expectations and they didn't fail. If only the prices were not astrocious 🥲 🫐 Saint Jean bakery -5/10 Frankly Like any other bakery. Maybe its the londoner in me but it really was like any other bakery in central London. 🫐 Cafe sonnevald - 3/10 Small and cozy but we had flies. No more comment. Ruined the experience for us. 🫐 China Sichuan Restaurant -5/10 The restaurant in itself is good BUT poor choice of food from us. Went with xiahungshu recommendation and utterly disappointed. Maybe it's the lack of our knowledge in Sichuan food but it was pretty much oil and veggies. Maybe should have done more research. 🫐 Herring -10/10 Tried it in one of the markets and went twice! LOVED IT.

🚢 SAIL Amsterdam 2025 I am so lucky to join the largest maritime event in the world that took place at IJhaven Amsterdam from August 20th to August 24th 2025. I booked my flight without knowing that I get to join this event! This event takes place once every 5 months, and because of Covid, the last event was 10 years ago! Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, Netherlands, has many international flights from all over the world, not just within Europe. The key point here is that it is very compact and efficient considering the number of flights. There are terminals 1 to 3, but there is no need to move by bus, as they are all next to each other. In addition, the airport station itself is directly connected to the arrival floor, and ticket vending machines and other things are located all over the floor. It's so convenient that you can just go down to the basement and you're already on the platform. By the way, it costs about 6 euros/20 minutes one way from the airport to Amsterdam Central Station, so access to the city is also good. There are many things that make you feel like you're in the Netherlands inside the airport. After taking a KLM flight from Beijing to Argentina with a layover in Amsterdam, I found the airport had plenty of chairs suitable for lying down, perfect for passengers on overnight flights to rest 😴. But shortly after lying down, I heard squeaking noises and then saw a little mouse 🐭 scurry by right in front of me. After a while, another one appeared, and then a little later, three more showed up! A big mouse leading two little ones. My goodness‼️ There were so many mice, I glanced at the nearby Starbucks ☕️ and was relieved I hadn't bought any food. Sleepiness instantly vanished, I wandered around the airport ✈️ and discovered that Amsterdam airport is quite beautiful, with shops selling souvenirs everywhere, featuring tulips 🌷, Dutch 🇳🇱 clogs 👟, and even Van Gogh art 🖼️ derivatives. Along the escalators leading to the VIP lounges, there were also colorful ceramic Dutch houses 🏠 as decorations. It turns out these ceramic houses are special gifts 🎁 from KLM to intercontinental business class passengers, filled with Dutch gin 🍷.

We booked the car through online, and you can choose on the type of cars that suit the need. Our travelling time is at December, where required to cross country from Netherlands to Germany. December is the winter time. Therefore we have requested the car rental company to provide the winter tyres. Additional charges is required for the winter tyres, Euro15 a day. We picked up our car at Schiphol Airport. The staff is friendly and helpful. They direct us all the way on the direction to get the car. Car picked up in clean and neat, with full tank of fuel. Due to labour shortages in the Netherlands, the Schiphol airport is unable to cope with the usual passenger numbers. The three main problem areas are the security check, the immigration and the baggage handling. If you must depart from Schiphol airport near Amsterdam in the Netherlands make sure to check in early. You are allowed inside the terminal building not more than 4 hours before the flight. It can take up to 3 hours to pass the above mentioned bottlenecks. So make sure you plan your trip accordingly. Normally, the airport here is very busy, but it was late at night and it was arrivals, so it was very deserted. There were hardly any tourists. I went to look at the booth to buy a train ticket to Amsterdam Centrum to go to the hotel I had booked, but... I didn't know how to do it, so I went to buy it at the counter, which cost about 1 Euro more than buying it at the booth. I went down to wait for the train. There were a few people waiting. Itinerary reference We recommend reserving 2–3 days for a complete visit. Day 1: Explore the old town canal district in depth. Stroll through the canal streets, check out the unique narrow houses, visit the squares, experience a canal cruise, wait for the night view in the evening, and soak in the nightlife atmosphere of the old town. Day 2: Visit museums. The Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum are located here. In the afternoon, browse local markets and cycle through the city streets. Day 3: Plan a short trip to the surrounding areas, or continue exploring the city, browsing unique shops, and spending a leisurely time at a canal-side cafe. There's no need to rush; this city is perfect for a slow stroll, stopping and going to capture the scenery at every canal corner. Practical tips The city is rainy, so carry an umbrella or a waterproof jacket. When cycling, be sure to follow bike lane rules; there are a huge number of bicycles, so watch out for them. The old town has many cobblestone roads, so we recommend wearing comfortable shoes. Canal cruises offer an excellent night view experience in the evening; we recommend booking tickets in advance during peak season. Popular museums have high foot traffic, so be sure to book tickets online in advance. Summer is the peak tourist season with many visitors. Spring and autumn have comfortable temperatures and relatively fewer tourists, making them more suitable for travel. Some areas in the old town are lively at night, so keep your belongings safe. English is widely spoken in the city, making travel communication very convenient.

We stayed at Renaissance Amsterdam Hotel from August 14–15 for our last night in Amsterdam before our flight home, with my husband, our son, and myself. From check-in to check-out, Cyrill was exceptional—friendly, efficient, and made everything effortless. He also kindly assisted our son with questions about bike rentals, which was particularly helpful since our son is currently a student in Amsterdam. As Marriott Bonvoy members, we were delighted to receive a complimentary late check-out until 1 PM, a benefit since the standard check-out time is 12 PM with a €20 charge per additional hour. Because our flight was at night, we chose to extend our stay further to 4 PM for an extra fee. This allowed us to enjoy our last day without worrying about luggage or wasting time at the airport. Breakfast at the hotel is €32 per person, and the buffet offered an impressive variety that left us spoiled for choice. The hotel also arranges third-party airport transfers, with a Mercedes Vito-sized car costing €68 one way to Schiphol. However, with just two pieces of luggage and our son accompanying us, we decided on the train instead. At €5.50 per person, it was an economical, convenient, and easy option. Overall, Renaissance Amsterdam Hotel was a wonderful choice for our final night. Its location, comfortable accommodations, beautiful artistic decor, helpful service, and late check-out option all contributed to making our last day relaxed and stress-free. My journey started with an incredible highlight right from the beginning. On my transfer flight from Germany to Amsterdam Schiphol, the crew allowed me to take a look inside the cockpit of the Embraer. From Amsterdam, I boarded a China Eastern Boeing 777 directly to Shanghai. 🇨🇳 Arriving in the city, exploring The Bund was breathtaking. Seeing the illuminated skyline and the city vibes at night is an absolute must.🌇 As an aviation enthusiast, visiting the Shanghai Aviation Museum was a dream. The museum features an impressive collection of historical Chinese jets, alongside iconic classics like a DC-8 and an Ilyushin Il-14 that you can actually step inside. The entrance fee was super budget-friendly, and the entire location was wonderfully quiet with hardly any crowds around. It is a genuine hidden gem and a must-visit for every avgeek.
