Visit to Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, Georgia's Oldest Roman Catholic Church
#churches #100waysoftravel #trip
Visiting the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, the oldest Roman Catholic church in Georgia, was a remarkable experience. Its stunning architecture reflects a blend of historical influences that tells the story of the region’s rich cultural heritage.
Upon entering, I was captivated by the beautiful stained glass windows and the serene atmosphere. The interior provided a peaceful space for reflection and prayer.
I had the opportunity to attend a mass, which was heartfelt and welcoming, fostering a sense of community among the congregants.
The surrounding area is also lovely, offering a quiet retreat from the bustling city. Overall, my visit to the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist was deeply enriching, leaving me with a profound appreciation for Georgia's history and its vibrant Catholic community.

Chippewa Square is one of the most known squares in all of Savannah, right in the center of everything. Forrest Gump made Chippewa Square famous with its bench scenes, where Forrest waited for the bus. They actually used at least four fiberglass benches while filming these scenes on the square. There’s a lot to see and do around the square, from plays to beautiful architecture.

Good stay great staff
The Hilton Garden Inn is around a 5 mins drive from Savannah airport. It's also right off I95 and another 2 mins from an outlet and food options. The city is around 20 mins away by car.
The hotel itself is fine. There is a fitness center and small pool. There's a sort of patio area which you can also relax and dine in. There's a lake located right behind the hotel so it was nice to stroll around. The rooms facing towards I95 though are a bit noisy.
The rooms are quite spacious and everything worked fine. There was even USB charging available which was an added plus. Breakfast isn't included but was the normal hot breakfast, including eggs, bacon and toast. There was also complimentary coffee throughout the day.
The real star was one of the front desk agents, Abigail, who was absolutely warm and welcoming. She made sure that everyone felt welcomed and appreciated and went out of her way to ensure guests had a comfortable stay.
