One room Jail - TEXOLA Oklahoma, USA
The One Room Jail in Texola is a quirky roadside attraction along Route 66. The building, which was constructed out of cinder blocks at the end of the 1800s, consists of a single room with entry through an iron barred door. The interior also includes an iron barred window and displays about notorious outlaws. Outside, there is a randomly placed tombstone-style memorial paying homage to the graduating high school class of 1938.
A tiny building, standing all alone in a nearly abandoned ghost town.
Texola is a wired place
This horror filled reality actually took place when historic Route 66 was bypassed back in the 1960s. Texola, Oklahoma definitely is a casualty of the Route 66 bypass war. This small town straddles the border of the Texas and this little town has never really had it easy.
The History of Texola dates back to the early 1900s. Before being named Texola, the town site had been called Texokla and Texoma. Because of its location near the 100th Meridian, the town was surveyed eight different times, which meant that some early residents lived in both Texas and Oklahoma without ever moving.
Real worthy place as wited it is.
