Laomendong Gourmet
Zhang's Shengjian
A shop specializing in traditional Nanjing snacks, recommended to friends visiting Laomendong: handmade loin meat (crispy and tender large meat skewers), shengjian buns (crispy bottoms with rich soup), and small fish guotie (three flavors of Jianghuai specialties)
Lu Style Plum Blossom Cake
A very classic snack in Nanjing. In fact, there is also an old brand of plum blossom cake on Mati Street in Nanjing, Master Zuo's Plum Blossom Cake, which is said to have opened in 1986! Truly a childhood memory for Nanjing people!
Tofu Dynasty
A shop specializing in tofu products, the Blizzard stinky tofu is really delicious, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with a crumbling sensation when you bite into it. Matcha soy milk is relatively refreshing and cuts through the richness, with a not too strong matcha flavor.
Miaodong Ribs
Miaodong Ribs has traveled all over the south of the Yangtze River, and of course, you have to try the local ribs when you come to Nanjing. The ribs are very flavorful, with a variety of seasonings to choose from, such as cumin, spicy, and sour plum. Be sure to eat them while they're hot, the more you chew, the more fragrant they become.
Jiang You Ji (Halal)
A Nanjing old brand, beef potstickers are a must-order when you enter the shop. The first time you try these crispy potstickers, bite into them, and the juice slowly oozes out, the meat is tender, and the sweet and salty taste is just right, very delicious.
Ji Ming Soup Buns
Super delicious, a basket of six chicken broth soup buns is simply not enough. They are fresh and savory with plenty of juice and a faint taste of chicken broth.
Lan Laoda Sugar Porridge Lotus Root Shop
They have red bean yuanxiao, sugar lotus root porridge, sugar taro sprouts, the red bean yuanxiao are average, with some burnt taste, but the sugar lotus root porridge is very tasty, with the sugar lotus root being sweet and glutinous.
Xiao Zheng Crispy Baked Buns

Nanjing | The Laomendong area this morning is like the rain alley in a poet's heart
Today's Laomendong, like the rain alley in a poet's heart, is a tourist attraction for visitors.
But for me, there's no need for deliberate nostalgia; just walking into an alleyway fills me with childhood memories.
It's as if I can hear my grandmother calling me home for dinner again.
Rain is truly magical.
It seems to use a gentle brushstroke to outline the ink painting of Laomendong's white walls, black tiles, and bluestone paths.
All the noise is washed away by the rain, leaving only the sound of dripping.
Does it remind you of the poet Dai Wangshu's 'Rain Alley'?
'With an oil-paper umbrella, alone I wander in the long, long and desolate rain alley...'
Unfortunately, I did not encounter the girl with lilacs today.
Laomendong at seven in the morning is peaceful and pleasant, as if isolated in another time and space.
The rain washes away the dust of autumn, turning Laomendong into a poetic scroll of rain alleys.
Here, it is no longer monotonous grey, but shows a profound and complex beauty.
Wandering through the alleys is like walking in a dream, intoxicated and enthralled.
In a few days, the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays will arrive, and Laomendong will present a different scene, bringing new stories.

Enjoy the Wisteria Flowers
Spring in Laomen East starts with wisteria! You can enjoy the flowers during Qingming!
By the end of March, the wisteria in Laomen East has already been brewing, and with the temperature rising these days, you can enjoy the flowers in Nanjing during the Qingming holiday! Wisteria is common, but it looks the best in Laomen East!
That's because the wisteria here covers the rooftops, and if you're lucky, you can even capture big oranges weaving through the sea of flowers.
The photo was taken on April 2nd last year. Wisteria is prone to overexposure, so it's recommended to choose the soft light of the morning for photography, and there are fewer people.
Laomen East
Take a ten-minute walk from Exit 2 of Wudingmen Station on Subway Line 3 to reach the specific location of the wisteria flowers.
Locate De Yun She, turn left into the alley from here, or locate the restaurant Shi Zao Wu Suo. If you want to capture both the cat and the flowers in the same frame, you need to go to the second floor of the restaurant, which requires consumption.
There is also a beautiful wisteria growing on a tree, specifically located at Xi Bao Xuan.

Nanjing's Laomendong is a top trending spot for the New Year, filled with dragons everywhere!
This year, the time for hanging lanterns in Laomendong has been advanced to set the festive mood
Because it's the Year of the Dragon, the dragon-shaped lanterns are particularly eye-catching
The longest and largest dragons in Nanjing have appeared in Laomendong
Don't think that at seven in the morning, there's no one here, it's like time travel
When the daylight fades and the lights come on
Laomendong becomes another place
The lights are turned on at 17:30 every night, and turned off at 22:00

Life advice, visit these places before leaving Nanjing
Once it's autumn, Nanjing becomes Jinling~
You should visit Nanjing in autumn, to see the unique romance and deep feelings of the ancient capital of the Six Dynasties in the misty Qinhuai River. Here's a citywalk checklist for autumn in Nanjing, come and note it down~
Day1: Laomendong—Confucius Temple—Qinhuai River
Day2: Dabao'en Temple—Painter's Village
Day3: Yaxi Slow Town—Gaochun Old Street
Laomendong
Named after its location east of Nanjing's city gate 'Zhonghua Gate', Laomendong is characterized by its grey bricks and black tiles. Not only can you find memories of the city from over 600 years ago, you can also taste a variety of special snacks~
Confucius Temple
As a top attraction in Nanjing, Confucius Temple has a strong atmosphere of life. Many shops sell Nanjing's special souvenirs, and if you're interested, you can also experience the human-powered rickshaw here.
Qinhuai River
You must come and see the night view of Nanjing's Qinhuai River. When the lanterns on the boats light up, you will understand the romance of 'Ten Miles of Qinhuai, a dream of Jinling'.
Dabao'en Temple
Among the '480 temples of the Southern Dynasties, how many towers in the misty rain', the 480 temples refer to Dabao'en Temple. Its reconstruction design is visually different from traditional Buddhist temples, not only incorporating many modern elements, but also allowing you to feel the shock of the fusion of modern architecture and Chinese classical aesthetics~
Painter's Village
In Liuhe, Nanjing, there is a lesser-known check-in spot—Painter's Village. The walls of the entire village are covered with various paintings, and even the architectural design of the village is enclosed in a circle, resembling a birdcage, which is very interesting.
Gaochun Old Street
If you don't want to experience the crowded city of Nanjing, you might as well go to Gaochun Old Street. Unlike other commercialized ancient towns, it is more simple and natural. The main street is full of various homemade dried geese, rice wine, shrimp sauce, which have a unique flavor.
Yaxi Slow Town
To avoid the crowd, you can also go to the nearby Yaxi Slow Town. As the first international slow city in China, it not only has tea fields, lawns, and farmland, but also rainbow slides, treetop walks, glass plank roads and other amusement facilities. You won't feel bored spending a whole day here~
Food recommendations: Li Ji Halal Restaurant (beef pot stickers), Master Zuo's Plum Cake, Lotus Lake Cake Shop, Xiao Pan's Duck Blood Vermicelli, Chicken Crow Soup Dumplings, etc.
Accommodation recommendations: It is recommended to stay near Xinjiekou/Confucius Temple/Laomendong, it is very convenient to walk around, recommended Republic of China Red Mansion, Laomendong Manxin Mansion, etc.

Nanjing lantern festival at Night
#tripblazers #couplestrip #nanjing
If you are planning a trip to Nanjing, then now is the time to go. Currently they are holding their annual lantern festival, where the streets of Confucius temple and Laomendong are lit up with beautiful displays. At night is the best time to see them, but be prepared for crowds and hiked up prices - if you want to eat before your visit, best to do so a little outside of the tourist areas.

Nanjing old door east, quieter than Lijiang, no Lijiang.
Every time I go to Nanjing, the Qinhuai River Confucius Temple is crowded with people, but this time, Amway has a new attraction: Old Gate East. Do you think the name is a bit strange and a bit sloppy? This is because the old gate is located in the south gate of Nanjing City, which is east of Zhonghua Gate, so it is called Jingdong and is also an important part of the Qinhuai scenery belt of Nanjing Confucius Temple.
The time of May 1st, Hunchun, is the season of roses blossoming, the shadows of the old gates can be seen everywhere, and some even climb the entire wall, with the architecture of the Republic of China, it really feels like it has passed. A century ago.
Old Gate East is a gathering place for traditional residential houses in Nanjing. Since ancient times, it has been a gathering place of merchants in the south of the Yangtze River, a gathering of humanities, and a place where the family of the family lived. Therefore, it is a place where gorgeous houses and old houses are everywhere. Of course, these old houses have now changed their face to become shopfronts, each with its own characteristics.
Compared with the Qinhuai River Confucius Temple, it is really quiet here. Even on weekends, there are not many people on the main street. When you turn into the alley, it will be quieter. The beautifully decorated literary teahouses and coffee shops are everywhere, so you can sit down and have a drink at any time.
Small holiday is coming. You don't have to go to a distant place to crowd people. Here you can talk about poetry and leisure, make a girlfriend, bring a girlfriend, a Hanfu, an ancient style, a folk style, and come to the old gate. Hey!

Autumn appreciation in Nanjing | The leaves are not yellow in mid-to-early November.
| The leaves are not yellow in mid-to-early November. I thought about coming to Nanjing to enjoy the autumn🍂I didn’t expect it’s still a bit hot 🙂 The weather is still cloudy☁️ Today’s attractions are all in one line, and we can arrange a day trip, but it’s a bit useless.
📍Lao Mendong
🔹You can go to Laomendong for breakfast in the morning.
🔹Personally, I feel that the commercial atmosphere in Laomendong is not as strong as that of Confucius Temple.
🔹There are many cultural and creative stores, food stores, clothing stores, etc., and it is quite easy to browse.
📍Zhanyuan
🔹Tickets🎫: 30 yuan/person
🔹It is about 1.2 kilometers away from Laomen East. You can walk there or take a taxi.
🔹Zhanyuan is quite big. I went there at the wrong time. The leaves were not yellow yet, but still green, but it was very antique. There were quite a few ladies wearing Hanfu to take pictures.
🔹As soon as you enter the door, you will see the history museum, and through the museum you will see the garden landscape.
🔹Every window, every corridor, and every pavilion is a good opportunity.
🔹The play time is about 2 hours.
📍Gujiming Temple
🔹Ticket🎫: 10 yuan/person
🔹It is 5 kilometers away from Zhanyuan. You can choose to ride a bike, take a taxi or take the subway there. But Zhanyuan is also 1.3 kilometers away from the subway station, which is a bit far.
🔹The most beautiful Gujiming Temple is when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom from March to April. I personally don’t think you should go there except for praying. There are quite a lot of people on weekends.
📍Xuanwu Lake
🔹Xuanwu Lake is on the left hand side of the exit of Gujiming Temple. These two attractions can be visited together.
🔹You can climb the city wall to take pictures of Jiming Temple.
🔹Xuanwu Lake is also quite big, and there are sightseeing buses available.
🔹The recommendation index is not high.
📍Yangzhou
🔹Xuanwu Lake is 2 subway stops away from Nanjing Station, which is very convenient.
🔹With 1 hour of high-speed train time, you can definitely go to Yangzhou to experience the bathhouse culture and Yangzhou morning tea😋

I woke up and found myself in the autumn of Nanjing, just like in a poem.
In November, the autumn in Nanjing is getting stronger.
Red leaves, white walls, and blue tiles
form a poetic ink painting.
The ancient poem "The east wind brings thousands of flowers at night"
suddenly becomes vivid at this moment.
·
📍Location: Silver Star Cinema, Laomendong
🎫Tickets: Free
🕐Time: 10:00 am, November 6
·
📷Photo Tips
✅If it's sunny, it's recommended to arrive at 10:00 am for shooting, as the light is better. If it's cloudy, you can also take ink painting-like photos.
✅To capture the tension of the tree, you can stand under the tree, close to the trunk, and shoot with a wide angle.
✅To capture the panorama, you can stand across the road and shoot close-ups of the pavilion and street lamps with a medium telephoto lens.

Nanjing | Meet the Jiangnan in Paintings, the Chinese Tallow Trees in Laomendong Have Changed Color!
|Meet the Jiangnan in Paintings, the Chinese Tallow Trees in Laomendong Have Changed Color!
When late autumn arrives, it's time to go to Laomendong to take photos of the Chinese tallow trees.
This is definitely one of the top autumn spots in Nanjing, and it goes viral every year.
The white walls and gray tiles hidden under the colorful Chinese tallow trees are like the "blank space" in Song and Yuan dynasty landscape paintings.
The flying eaves and pavilions, and the glazed palace lanterns in front, create a poetic autumn scene like an ink painting.
When you look up,
the leaves are green, yellow, and red.
In half a month, it will be as beautiful as the Jiangnan in Wu Guanzhong's paintings.
November 10
You can locate "Laomendong Silver Star Film City," the spot is just to the west of it, or you can locate "Laomendong - West Gate 2."

Compared to Fuzimiao, I love Laomendong more|||Fuzimiao is loved by the older generation, while Laomendong is for the young people
|||Fuzimiao is loved by the older generation, while Laomendong is for the young people. Compared to Fuzimiao, I love Laomendong more|||Fuzimiao is loved by the older generation, while Laomendong is a gathering place for young people. Naturally, what I like is also Laomendong.
Laomendong is not as big as Fuzimiao, but it is highly walkable. It not only has many popular snacks but also numerous cultural and creative shops where you can get many beautiful multi-colored stamps.
Laomendong has Chayan Yuese, but unfortunately, the queue was too long, so I gave up. If you are not in a hurry, you can wait.
Fuzimiao is very close to Laomendong, so if you have time, you can visit both.
Fuzimiao is very similar to Shanghai's Chenghuang Temple. You can stroll around, buy some local specialties, have dinner, and enjoy the night view. If you can get a tea spot by the river, it would be even better, but you need to queue. If there weren't so many people, it would be very pleasant.

Trumpet creeper is a unique romance belonging to the old East Gate of Nanjing!!
Time goes deep, years are fragrant, and trumpet creeper blooms at the corner~
Time flies, today let's listen to the rain, and catch the tail of summer~ The scenery grows with heat and deep affection in the lush green rain, and the scenery is full of surprises at the corner~ trumpet creeper
In the old East Gate, on the gray walls with black tiles, that touch of red climbs the walls and blooms wantonly, either reaching the roof or hanging on the eaves, making people take a second look~
The rain adds a touch of tenderness and vitality to the old house
!! The trumpet creeper of the old East Gate is currently at the end of its blooming period (June to August), and shooting on rainy days highlights the charm of the old city of Nanjing, especially with the addition of the trumpet creeper
!! Most of the trumpet creepers are concentrated in the three camps (the further back, the more), and there are also many near the Mustard Seed Garden. Don't forget to take a photo with this 'summer star' when you visit the old East Gate~

Nanjing | Woke up at five o'clock, finally captured the most beautiful Laomendong
| Woke up at five o'clock, finally captured the most beautiful Laomendong. Laomendong in Nanjing, 20 years ago, the poet Shu Ting's 'To the Oak Tree' was popular all over the country, and the line 'If I love you, it will never be like the trumpet creeper, using your high branches to show off itself' made me know the trumpet creeper for the first time. In May, when the first wave of trumpet creeper bloomed in Laomendong, I came to take pictures. On the gray walls of the black tiles, the trumpet creeper blooms wantonly, either climbing on the walls, reaching the roof, or hanging on the eaves, like a Jiangnan woman, gentle and silent, adding a touch of vitality to the old house.
Afterwards, it rained heavily, and I came to take pictures again. The drooping vines swayed gently in the wind, and the fallen flowers covered the bluestone road. Every step seemed like a Jiangnan painting. Unexpectedly, the second wave bloomed again these days. I specially chose a time when there was no one to take pictures. It does not have the grandeur of peonies, nor the enticing fragrance of roses. Each flower has its own direction, taking over the entire summer romance of Laomendong, ushering in the most beautiful time of the year.

Nanjing|This is the Laomendong you have never seen
|This is the Laomendong you have never seen. Nanjing|This is the Laomendong you have never seen.
I can't remember how many times I've come to photograph Laomendong this year. For tourists, this is a scenic spot,
but for Nanjing people, it hides the original code of a city.
Historically, Laomendong
was the area where Nanjing's original residents lived the longest and where commerce was most prosperous. One can imagine the bustling scene of merchants gathering at that time:
wooden buildings, horse-head walls, ancient archways, stone-paved roads, old flower windows,
and the trumpet creeper mentioned in the Book of Songs, all of which recreate the old cityscape.
I especially like to stroll around Laomendong in the morning. The stone-paved roads wet by rain have a special charm.
Every brick and tile still retains traces of ancient times. Wandering through the winding alleys,
you will find that they are imbued with the misty atmosphere of the Six Dynasties of Jinling.
Isn't it different from the Laomendong you have seen? Remember to come in the morning next time.
All materials were shot on June 27, 2024, overlooking from the Zhonghua Gate City Wall.

Nanjing Two-Day Tour Super Detailed Guide
Nanjing Two-Day Tour Super Detailed Guide
Laomendong:
Transportation: Subway 🚇 Wudingmen Station, then about a 12min walk
Ticket: Free
Suitable for eating special snacks, buying special products in the commercial historical and cultural district, less crowded than Confucius Temple, and the night view is also very beautiful. It takes about 25 minutes to walk to Confucius Temple.
Jiming Dumplings (Laomendong Store): Bought a set meal online for 116¥, including steamed chicken feet with black bean sauce, red bean glutinous rice balls, duck blood vermicelli soup, mushroom steamed dumplings, prawn soup dumplings, chicken broth dumplings, all of which are sweet, but unexpectedly the most amazing was the red bean glutinous rice balls. The red beans were very soft, and the small glutinous rice balls were chewy, the porridge was lightly sweet, not greasy at all.
Confucius Temple/Qinhuai River:
Transportation: Subway 🚇 Confucius Temple Station
Ticket: Free
Qinhuai River runs through the Confucius Temple commercial district, the lights at night are very beautiful, there are super many Nanjing special snacks and special products, such as salted duck, plum blossom cake, duck blood vermicelli, etc. However, the Jiangnan Gongyuan · Imperial Examination Museum inside costs 50¥/person, half price for students; Confucius Temple · Dacheng Hall 30¥/person.
The food streets on both sides are a little cheaper than the main street, plum blossom cake 5¥/piece, glutinous rice balls with red dates, raisins, and red bean paste, only the shape is like a plum blossom, sweet and glutinous.
Jinghua Dumplings (Lock Gold Village Second Store):
Heard it's cleaner than the first store, ordered chrysanthemum leaf dumplings + original flavor dumplings, cost 28¥, thin skin and juicy, chrysanthemum leaf ones have a bit of wild vegetable taste, better with chili and vinegar. There's also free soy milk to drink in the store.
Hongshan Zoo:
Transportation: Subway 🚇 Line 1 Hongshan Zoo Station
Ticket: 40¥/person, half price for students and children
Business hours: 8:00-18:30.
Food: There are many snack bars at the north gate and across the road, Mixue Bingcheng, KFC, duck shops, noodle houses, roujiamo shops, etc.
Tour: Out of the subway, walk 5min to the north gate of the zoo, there are stalls selling animal plush toys at the subway entrance, very cute and relatively cheap, tested to bargain. The park is very large, and it takes about four hours to visit. Popular animals are mainly in the Dahongshan and Fangniushan areas. The animals inside are super interesting, the popular ones include pandas in the panda pavilion, white-faced saki monkey Dudu in Gondwana, red pandas in Gaoligong, and Jasmine in the koala pavilion. Each cultural and creative store is also good to visit, popular animal IP products often sell out. There are also food plazas, elephant-shaped markets, and cartoon animal check-ins in the park.
Luggage storage: Free lockers on the left side of the north gate, charged by the hour on the right, small locker 3¥/h, medium locker 5¥/h, large locker 7¥/h; you can also store it in the front store, bags 10¥, luggage 20¥, no time limit.
Xu's Duck Shop:
Across from Hongshan Zoo, recommended online. A quarter of a duck, 19¥, poured with sauce (tastes a bit like the sweet bean sauce dipped with Peking duck), quite delicious, maybe the duck skin would be crisper and better if it was just made, sweet taste. There are also other duck shops nearby, if there are many people, you can try other shops.
Teng's Noodle House:
Across from Hongshan Zoo, online recommendation ➕1⃣️. Ordered the three delicacies noodles, 18¥, salty and spicy, plenty of ingredients, satisfying the love of spicy food for northerners.

Nanjing's Xiaoxihu district is really suitable for a leisurely stroll when you have free time. The shops have a variety of styles, with an overall minimalist vibe📃
You could probably spend an entire afternoon in the district, which is great for city walks, afternoon tea, and chatting.
There are also several Instagram-style shops that are very photogenic and produce great shots, and the key point is that it's not very crowded‼️, making it perfect for individual photo shoots‼️ You might want to go when the afternoon sun is nice, as it really enhances the atmosphere.

Nanjing | The Campsis flowers at night in Laomendong are also quite photogenic
The Campsis flowers at night in Laomendong are also quite photogenic. If you come to Nanjing, you must visit Laomendong, where the traditional streets and alleys of the old southern city are preserved, such as Jianzi Alley, Jiezi Garden, Biantong Alley, San Tiaoying, Jishanli... The night lights outline the traditional charm.
Come and feel the old stories of the city's south, half artistic, half full of life.

After seeing the hustle and bustle of Confucius Temple and the night view of Qinhuai River, you might as well come to these small alleys with blue bricks and black tiles, to experience the ancient charm and the fragrance of birds.
While Laomendong is lively, it can also be crowded! If you don't go into shops or galleries, the stay is short, and the experience of the visit will decrease!!

Compared to the Confucius Temple, the small alleys of Laomendong are really nice to stroll through
Compared to the Confucius Temple, the small alleys of Laomendong are really nice to stroll through. Laomendong, located to the east of Zhonghua Gate in the Qinhuai District of Nanjing, is named 'Men Dong' because it is situated to the east of the southern gate of Nanjing's city wall, opposite to Laomenxi. It is an important part of the Qinhuai scenic area of the Confucius Temple in Nanjing.
Laomendong has been a gathering place for traditional residences in Nanjing, historically a hub for merchants and scholars in the south of the Yangtze River, and a residential area for prominent families.
As early as the Three Kingdoms period, there were residential settlements in Laomendong. During the Ming Dynasty, Zhonghua Gate and the area along the Qinhuai River became the economic center of the city, making this area an important hub for commerce and handicraft industries, presenting a scene of prosperity. After the late Qing Dynasty, areas such as Laomendong and Laomenxi in the old southern part of the city gradually became residential areas, reflecting the traditional residential style of southern Nanjing.
The Pioneer Bookstore Laomendong branch is worth visiting; you can browse without making a purchase and take photos, experiencing the charm of the ancient bookstore.
San Tiao Ying, Bian Ying, and other alleys
The main street of Laomendong is quite crowded, but the small alleys next to the main street are not very crowded. Streets and alleys like San Tiao Ying and Bian Ying have been restored and reconstructed, featuring a collection of distinctive ancient residential courtyards, while also restoring the original bluestone slabs and brick roads, which have a historical flavor.
Walking in the alleys with an umbrella when it rains must be very pleasant! I heard that the roses are particularly beautiful when they bloom. Right now, the Campsis and pomegranate flowers that are in bloom are also very beautiful.
