A bastion-style castle built by the Edo Shogunate in Hakodate, Ezo, at the end of the Edo period. It is called Goryokaku because of its five protruding points called bastions and its pentagonal star-shaped exterior.
◼︎Hakodate Magistrate's Office Ruins
In Hakodate, one of Japan's first ports to be opened, this magistrate's office was responsible for guarding the northern border and negotiating with foreign countries at the end of the Edo period.
