Since I was traveling alone and wanted to save on taxi fare, I walked, but I recommend taking a taxi… 🥲 It was an uphill climb, and I ended up sweating a lot. Since it was early in the morning, there weren’t many people around, so I could explore comfortably. While walking up, I got tired and took breaks to enjoy the scenery. Using a Korean coupon, I only visited the Kamihaga Residence. Luckily, I arrived just as other visitors were leaving, so I managed to take photos at the photo spot all by myself! 🥹 Then, due to Google Maps giving me incorrect directions… I ended up taking the wrong train, went back to Matsuyama, and then headed to Iyo-Ozu again. In Ozu, I only had an hour, and I didn’t realize it was Monday, so many places were closed… ^^… I only managed to see the Sota chair. When you visit Matsuyama, you often explore not only Matsuyama itself but also the nearby small towns. One of those towns is Ozu City, which I visited. Since it was a weekday in early October, there were hardly any people. It was a quiet and peaceful place. Perhaps because I had just visited Matsuyama Castle, I found this castle to be a bit smaller. However, the significance lies in the fact that this place appeared in 'Suzume's Locking Up'! On the way, I took photos just like in 'Suzume's Locking Up' and also took some on the way up to the castle. I was quite pleased with the photos I took on the way. 📍Location: Iyo-Ozu Station 📍How to get there: 1. Take the JR limited express train from Matsuyama Station and get off at Iyo-Ozu Station 2. Walk for 20-30 minutes (refer to Google Maps) 3. Take the Ozu Circular Bus (board in front of Iyo-Ozu Station) I walked there and took the Ozu Circular Bus on the way back. When you come down from Ozu Castle, there is a large supermarket, and the bus stop sign is across the street from the supermarket. That's the only bus stop near Ozu Castle. The bus may be off by about 5 minutes, but it usually arrives on time, so be sure to take the circular bus.

We went to Sawai Seika in Ozu City to eat shaved ice. They serve shaved ice topped with plenty of fruit, and orders are accepted until 3 PM. Since it's located in a corner of a fruit shop, they also sell vegetables and fruits at the storefront. We shared strawberry and peach shaved ice. The fruit was incredibly sweet and delicious, and the ice cream on top was a nice touch! The fact that you can choose from many different kinds depending on the season, such as mango, melon, and fig, is also appealing. Water is also available as self-service.

Located just about an hour from Matsuyama City. Living up to its nickname as the "Little Kyoto of Iyo," you can fully immerse yourself in a good old-fashioned Japanese cityscape. Featuring cute cafes and charming variety shops, along with craft beer, bakeries, and traditional Japanese sweets shops, it was a delightful town perfect for strolling and snacking. The view from Garyu Sanso is simply unforgettable. In the summer, you can enjoy canoeing and the fresh greenery, and in the fall, the autumn foliage is stunning—it's truly a wonderful town. Best of all, it’s not overly crowded, making it a perfect place to comfortably enjoy sightseeing and a relaxing walk around town.

I visited Garyu Sanso, a designated National Important Cultural Property. Located on the eastern side of Ozu's castle town, it's about a 15-minute walk from Ozu Castle. The breathtaking scenery overlooking the Hijikawa River was absolutely spectacular. The view from Furo-an, a thatched-roof tea house built right on the edge of a cliff, is especially stunning. The garden is impeccably maintained and truly a sight to behold. There were CD players available providing detailed audio explanations for each building. I hear the fresh greenery in spring and summer, as well as the vibrant autumn foliage, are also incredibly beautiful. Since it's right next to Ozu Shrine, I highly recommend visiting both spots together.
