Numazu travel guide and discussion

After arriving at Centrair, we zipped over to Numazu in a rental car. We stayed overnight in Numazu the day before to treat ourselves to some amazing sushi♪ Numazu Kaiten Sushi Sushinosuke Whenever I visit Numazu, I usually head to "Maruten" at the fishing port, but this time I was craving sushi... "Numazu Kaiten Sushi Sushinosuke" is a hit even with the locals—we had to wait two hours that day! Still, customers kept showing up one after another to add their names to the waitlist... it's incredible. Inside the Restaurant The restaurant isn't very large, with U-shaped seating wrapping around the kitchen. While the conveyor belt is running, most people order fresh directly from the chefs, so you rarely see much sushi actually circling around. Menu There’s a standard menu on the counter, but you’ll definitely find yourself picking from the daily specials on the chalkboard. They feature a lineup of fresh local fish delivered straight from Numazu Port, along with seasonal ingredients from across Japan. Everything looks so good! Just a heads-up: items get crossed off the board fast, so you have to be quick. Overflowing Raw Whitebait When you think of Numazu, you think of raw whitebait! The "Overflowing Raw Whitebait (490 yen)" is just as the name suggests—the shirasu is literally spilling off the battleship roll. It has a smooth texture and zero fishiness. The "Overflowing Salmon Roe (690 yen)" in the background was also fantastic with its signature popping texture! Local Fish Trio The "Local Fish Trio (590 yen)" includes amberjack, horse mackerel, and Spanish mackerel. The firm, snappy texture and rich flavor are true signs of freshness. I noticed "Aburabouzu" (Skilfish) on the menu, a local deep-sea fish... unfortunately, it was already crossed out, but I really wanted to try it! Flounder with Salt and Lemon The Numazu-sourced "Flounder with Salt and Lemon (590 yen)" was absolutely divine. Flounder is naturally mild, but the salt and lemon eliminated any trace of fishiness and really brought out its clean, sweet flavor. Negitoro Along with Yaizu, Numazu is famous for its massive tuna hauls. While the lean and medium fatty tuna are great, I personally love the "Negitoro (minced tuna and green onion) (190 yen)." It's cheap and delicious! Trotaku The "Trotaku Thin Roll (690 yen)" made with that same high-quality tuna is also superb. It’s loaded with strips of medium fatty tuna—so indulgent! We tried many other things, and everything was just delicious. It's not exactly "cheap," but considering the quality, the value is excellent. The long wait is tough, but I’d definitely come back. Time to check into the hotel near Numazu Station... and then head out for drinks! (lol) Numazu Kaiten Sushi Sushinosuke 3140-1 Shimokanuki Shimoshōji, Numazu City, Shizuoka Prefecture 055-933-3332 Hours: 11:00 AM – 9:45 PM Closed: Irregular holidays

#slowtraveling JR Numazu Station south exit, Tokai bus to Senbonhama-koen (10 min, ¥230) or 25 min on foot. I biked it — Numazu Port rents mamachari ¥300/hour, cash only. Senbonhama Park is a 1.5 km promenade along the breakwater, behind a 300-year-old pine row called Senbon Matsubara (“thousand pine flats”). The path is paved, flat, and flanked by stone monuments inscribed by Yasushi Inoue and other writers who loved the view of Suruga Bay and Fuji across the water. I walked it at 6:30 a.m. The bay was steel-grey, Fuji a white triangle cut out of cloud, and the pine needles smelled of resin and salt. Two fishermen, one heron, zero tourists. The promenade has benches every 200 m, a few poetry slabs, and a children’s park midway — skip the park if child-free, keep going to the Tagonoura bend where the pine thins and the bay opens. No entry fee, no hours, no lights after dusk (don’t linger past 5 p.m. in winter). Carry cash: the Ganyudo ferry (¥100, wooden boat, weekends only Mar–May/Jul/Sep–Nov) leaves from Ayumibashi pier near the station, not the park — easy to mix up. The port fish market 10 min south is the food stop (sakura shrimp kakiage ¥150, cash). Mistake: arriving at 11 a.m. — Fuji hides in haze, the light flattens, and the pine row reads as just trees. Dawn is the only honest hour here. Would you bike the whole promenade or sit on the first bench and let the bay change? I biked to the bend, then sat. The sitting was longer.

Numazu Port is a popular area packed with fantastic sightseeing spots, not to mention incredibly fresh seafood! 😊 The first place we visited was the Numazu Deep Sea Aquarium. 🐠 It features over 100 species of deep-sea creatures unique to Suruga Bay, the deepest bay in Japan! 🌊 The dimly lit interior feels just like the bottom of the ocean. The view of Mount Fuji beyond the 7-kilometer stretch of pine forest and coastline is one of Japan's iconic landscapes. Winter days with clear air are especially popular for capturing crisp views of Mount Fuji.

We always thought cherry blossoms wouldn’t show up until the end of March, until we accidentally wandered to the banks of the Kawazu River on the Izu Peninsula and discovered that spring can arrive this early and so suddenly—the Kawazu cherry blossoms in early February have gathered all their strength, dyeing the entire river valley in rosy clouds, with even the breeze carrying a sweet fragrance, announcing the grand opening of "Japan’s earliest cherry blossom season." Unlike the slender Somei Yoshino cherry blossoms, Kawazu cherry blossoms have rounder, fuller petals and a gentle light pink color. In the still chilly early spring, they look like clusters of sun-warmed cotton candy or the cheeks of a girl without makeup, softening the very air with their pink hue. Strolling along the Kawazu River, 8,000 cherry trees bloom in succession on both banks, their shadows falling into the flowing water, rippling into a moving sea of flowers. Occasionally, a white egret flies by, stirring a pool of rosy ripples. Here, there are no crowded crowds like Tokyo’s Ueno Park, only the babbling stream and birdsong, and even time seems to slow down. Locals set up stalls selling freshly baked sakura mochi—pink glutinous rice cakes wrapped in red bean paste, bursting with the fresh aroma of cherry leaves. An elderly man plays the shamisen by the riverbank, the strings blending with the floral scent, creating a rhythm of spring more authentic than any background music. 📅 Kawazu Cherry Blossom Festival Dates: February 7 - March 8 (Golden period for early cherry blossoms, miss it and wait another year!) 📍 Prime Viewing Spots: Along the Kawazu River, Kawazu Seven Waterfalls, Mine Onsen Village 🚄 Transportation Guide: · From Tokyo: Take the Shinkansen to Atami Station (about 50 minutes), transfer to the Izu Kyuko Line to Kawazu Station (about 1 hour), then a 10-minute walk to the riverbank · From Osaka/Kyoto: Take the Tokaido Shinkansen to Shizuoka Station, transfer to the JR Tokaido Main Line to Numazu Station, then switch to the Izu Hakone Railway to Kawazu Station 🌸 Cherry Blossom Festival Exclusive Activities: ✅ "Night Sakura Light Show": Every night from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, the riverside cherry trees are draped in warm yellow lights, reflecting on the water like a starry river falling (recommended photo spot: Horai Bridge, a classic vantage point!) ✅ "Sakura Market": Taste sakura ice cream, sakura mochi, sakura leaf tea, and shop for handmade sakura accessories ✅ "Onsen Cherry Blossom Viewing": Stay at Mine Onsen Ryokan, soak in the open-air hot springs while watching cherry blossoms fall outside the window—this is the pinnacle of Japanese-style romance 💡 Insider Tips: 1. Dress Code: Early spring has big temperature differences between morning/evening and daytime. Wear a light jacket during the day, and bring a shawl for the cool riverside breeze; choose lightweight, slip-resistant shoes as some stone paths can be slippery. 2. Photography Tips: Early morning from 7 to 9 AM has fewer people and soft light; backlighting the petals creates a beautiful translucent effect; note that drones are prohibited in certain areas—please observe signs. 3. Avoid Crowds: Weekends are busier; if your schedule is flexible, visit on weekdays to enjoy the entire sea of blossoms alone. 4. Food Bonus: Near Kawazu Station, the "Yabukin" diner’s signature sakura taiyaki is crispy outside, soft inside, with red bean paste carrying a faint cherry blossom fragrance. While other cities are still waiting for the snow to melt, the Kawazu River in Izu has already written a love letter to spring with cherry blossoms. No need to fight the crowds for the popular bloom period—here, the early cherry blossoms are telling you with the most passionate display: spring has truly arrived.

I heard that there was a nice cape and shrine near the inn where I was staying, so I decided to take a walk there 🚶 The whole trip took about an hour ⏳ I just happened to come here without doing any research, but it was so beautiful ❤️ First, follow the road and you will see a lighthouse, so walk to that landmark On the way to the inner sea and the beach from there, you will find "Morokuchi Shrine" ⛩️ The shrine's torii gate is built close to the beach, and on some days you can take a miraculous three-shot of the sea, torii gate, and Mt. Fuji, as shown in the photo! ️ The beach is an inland sea, so it is calm, and the water is crystal clear, so it's just too beautiful 😊 I looked it up and found that four beaches in Numazu City have been selected as the "best water quality" beaches, out of only eight in the country! It was an impressive place 🥹 This beach and Cape Mihama have been ranked number one in the ranking of the most beautiful beaches in Japan 🌊 If you are traveling nearby, please be sure to visit ✨ 📍Location: 2710-1 Toda Mihama, Numazu City, Shizuoka Prefecture #Izu #Izu trip #Beach #Cape Mihama #Beautiful beach #Numazu #Instagrammable spot #0 yen travel autumn

I went to the popular restaurant "Nishiyo" in Numazu Port for lunch! It was lunchtime so we had to wait in line for about 30 minutes, but it was worth it✨ The seafood bowl, made with fresh seafood landed at Numazu Port, had a plump and delicious sashimi taste🤤 This time, I ordered the Nishiyo bowl and the horse mackerel tataki bowl, but the horse mackerel fry seems to be very popular as well🐟 Access: 10 minutes by taxi from Numazu Station, 　　　　　1 minute walk from Numazu Port Shokudo-gai bus stop Address: 109 Senbonminato-cho, Numazu City, Shizuoka Prefecture 410-0845 #Gourmet #Shizuoka Gourmet #Numazu Port Gourmet #Seafood Bowl

Numazu City, Shizuoka Prefecture. Numazu Kanehachi is located at Numazu Port. The interior of the restaurant is luxurious and stylish, and it is a very comfortable restaurant. It is a comfortable restaurant that is easy for women to enter alone. This time, I was wondering whether to have a seafood bowl, but I wanted to drink alcohol, so I ordered a variety of items separately. When I visited the restaurant after 1:00 pm on a weekday, it was almost full. The sashimi and sushi were very fresh and delicious. And the price is also reasonable, so I'm grateful. I highly recommend it, so please visit it. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 📍1F Dainobu Center, 109 Senbonminato-cho, Numazu City, Shizuoka Prefecture 🚃About 29 minutes walk from the south exit of JR Numazu Station #Shizuoka #Numazu #Gourmet #Gourmet trip #Seafood #Sushi #Shizuoka trip #Shizuoka gourmet #Numazu port

Numazu City, Shizuoka Prefecture. There is an observation facility that takes advantage of its height of 30m above ground, and you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of Suruga Bay, Senbonmatsubara, and the majestic Mt. Fuji ♪ It is also lit up at night. I went during the day on a weekday, and it was empty, so I was able to enjoy a leisurely view of the sea and had a blissful time. Mt. Fuji was covered in clouds and I couldn't see it, but if there were no clouds, you would be able to see the majestic Mt. Fuji. I went to Awashima Marine Park, a small uninhabited island in Izu, Shizuoka Prefecture! The entire island is a marine park, and after buying a ticket, you can travel to the island on a special boat🚤 The aquarium is not that big, but it has exhibits that you can't see anywhere else, such as deep-sea fish from Numazu, which is very interesting! It was a warm aquarium that made use of the characteristics of the region and had many comments from the keepers♪ The frog museum, where frogs from around the world gather, is also a must-see🐸 #trip2023 #shizuokatourism #izu #aquarium

This is Shotokan. The rooms are beautiful and calming, with a modern Japanese design, and from every room you can see Suruga Bay, Mt. Fuji, and Awashima Island. They also have a semi-open-air bath, so you can relax while taking in the amazing view♪ All the meals we had in our rooms were delicious, too. There is also an open-air observation bath and a private bath, so you can enjoy it to the fullest! #Hot Springs

Average price: 1000-3000 yen Budget per person: 2000 yen Evaluation: Sashimi set meal with different types depending on the day.
