Heartwarmed by the Energy and Blessings of Okinogu.
The true essence of Okinawa isn't found in souvenirs on store shelves, but in the coastal breeze, the tolling bells of the shrines, the genuine smiles exchanged between people, and those one-of-a-kind encounters along the journey.
So, I decided to visit another power spot in Okinawa—Okinogu Shrine.
Nestled quietly on a hill, Okinogu is a deeply spiritual sanctuary for many locals. It is said to be one of the most spiritually vibrant shrines in all of Okinawa.
Approaching the pristine white torii gate, I bowed my head once more.
Stepping through the torii, the world outside faded into a profound stillness, broken only by the crisp, soothing melody of wind chimes swaying in the breeze.
The rustic, solemn worship hall stood peacefully, with no noisy crowds or rushed footsteps. Every visitor who came to pray brought their own quiet wishes and a deep sense of reverence.
I gently tossed a coin into the offering box and paid my respects to the deities following the traditional etiquette.
But this time, I wasn't just asking for favors.
It was more about giving thanks.
Thankful for a safe, fulfilling trip, and thankful to myself for carving out a moment to slow down despite the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Before leaving, I picked up an adorable frog-shaped traffic safety amulet (omamori).
In Japanese, the word for frog is "kaeru," which shares the same pronunciation as the word for "to return." It symbolizes a safe trip home, representing a promise that every departure will end in a smooth return.
I also chose a golden dragon ring.
Not out of superstition, but as a personal reminder to keep working hard and living life to the fullest (and making a good living, of course). I hope that one day, it will inspire me to embark on another brand-new adventure, brimming with anticipation.
Standing before the worship hall, I didn't make any new wishes, but simply offered a silent "Thank you" in my heart to the deities who watch over travelers.
Thank you for keeping me safe.
Thank you for a smooth journey.
And thank you to this beautiful land for giving me such heartwarming memories.
Will I keep traveling?
My answer remains the same.
Absolutely.
Because traveling has never been about escaping reality, but about discovering new people and cultures in different corners of the world, and in the process, rediscovering yourself.
Travel is the gentlest reward you can give yourself for working hard in life.
It’s also a gentle reminder amid the busy years to never forget to look up and take in the vastness of the world.
Eventually, the plane will take off, and the journey will come to an end.
But the courage, inspiration, and blessings gathered along the way will stay with me as I return to my familiar life, guiding me toward the next beautiful, uncharted horizon.
Because I know that as long as my heart holds onto its curiosity about the world, every departure is a fresh start, and every homecoming becomes the most beautiful reason to set off once again.
