#hotdiscussions Is "Splurged on luxury travel and got let down" emerging as a theme through my past few posts? Booked holidays after a busy time at work, so I invested in business class tickets to get some sleep during my Delhi/Tokyo flights, and booked JAL as it's my preferred company and they had direct flights✈️ Service was, as always with JAL, perfect. But I am pretty sad to say my inflight vegan meals were disappointing!😩 It was better on my way to Delhi: as pictured, I got the little menu card and a few words about the chef that curated it. But having flown economy with JAL on long-haul flights several times last year, I have the impression I got served a very similar meal in economy But all that matters is I had a good creative and original appetizer and dessert.🍰 The main dish was curry, it tasted fine but lacked a bit of originality as curry is, in Japan, the most common vegan options at restaurants.🍛 The disappointment happened on my way back: as pictured, I had a simple corn salad and tomato sauce penne which looked so cheap compared to the other meals served around me. Both the Jp or international cuisine option had a plate of 6 hors-d'oeuvres, and a nice original main dish. And the second big disappointment was that the snacks available were cheese and instant noodles that all contained animal products!😮💨 Back home in Tokyo I got really sick, but was so bummed out by this experience that I wrote to JAL customer service, to which they replied that they will share my precious feedback to improve future meals😅 So tell me, have you ever been disappointed by a luxury splurge? Opened over 10 years ago in Toyosu, near the team☆lab exhibition space, MIFA Football Park's concept is to be dedicated to communication, music and football but it's mainly known and used as a soccer practice space. It's in a very open space, rare for Japan! The last picture is the view from the field. The field can be used under bad weather. As pictured, there is a cafe with a small terrace space and a stage. They serve full meals and snacks, as well as protein shakes. You can rent everything you need: shoes and socks, full outfit, towels... There also is a kids play space, showers with a sauna, and a chiropractor. And was this meal worth its price? When ordering, you choose between the two bases, customize your soup (standard, tomato, or coconut) and spice level, and then you can add toppings. 🏙️Location: located in a quiet street in Shibuya, you would expect to pay a higher price. 🥦Quality & freshness: Even without adding extra toppings, the dish includes a large variety of extremely fresh vegetables and you can taste the quality. Unless you book a group table, seating is at the bar where you can watch the chefs fry the vegetables fresh for each order. 🍸Ambiance: The curries are served in individual, artisanal hotpots, which really elevates the experience. 🥢Overall The meal was absolutely worth the price! During our two-week trip to Japan, we spent approximately 900,000–950,000 ₽ for two people. About 400,000 ₽ of that was spent in stores 😅 The actual vacation expenses, excluding shopping, came to about 495,000–550,000 ₽ for two. This total even included a 51,000 ₽ night at a ryokan and extra fees for express passes at theme parks. We traveled in June 2025 following the route: Tokyo → Gero → Osaka → Tokyo. All figures below are for two people for the entire trip. ✈️ Flights — 128,000 ₽ China Southern from Moscow with a layover in Guangzhou, round-trip, including baggage. 🏨 Accommodations — about 148,000 ₽ Two hotels in Tokyo, one hotel in Osaka, and a ryokan in Gero. One night at the ryokan cost 51,348 ₽ and included a Japanese breakfast. The other hotels did not include breakfast. 🚄 Transport — about 55,000–57,000 ₽ Trains between cities, the metro, and one taxi ride. The Shinkansen ended up being more expensive than I expected. 🎢 Entertainment — about 74,500 ₽ Tokyo Disneyland, Universal Studios Japan, and the Harry Potter studio tour. This also includes Premier Access at Disneyland and the Express Pass at Universal. The Express Pass at Universal alone cost 37,830 ₽ for two. I would gladly pay again for the privilege of standing in shorter lines. 🍔 Food — approximately 83,000–136,000 ₽ This is an estimate as we didn't keep strict records; I calculated this based on our typical daily spending. Everyday food didn't seem outrageously expensive to me. However, prices inside Disneyland and Universal felt very different 😅 📱 Communication and Misc. Expenses — about 6,500–7,000 ₽ Two SIM cards, luggage storage, and small expenses along the way. 🛍️ Shopping — another 400,000 ₽ Clothes, shoes, glasses, electronics, merch, Pop Mart, and four suitcases. That specific 150,000+ ₽ day in Tokyo is already included in this amount. Many things cost less than in Russia, and stopping myself proved harder than I thought. If you're planning a similar trip, our benchmark without shopping is about 250,000–275,000 ₽ per person. We chose a ryokan, several expensive entertainment options, and pretty much didn't deny ourselves anything. Next time, I would buy less merchandise. I used to just say, "It's probably just lots of people cosplaying and it's very lively, right?" But after actually walking the streets of Tokyo for Halloween, I can only say— Photos simply can't capture the sheer scale of it. 😳 This time, we decided to personally step into the streets of Tokyo and experience the legendary Halloween carnival. We originally imagined a night full of quirky costumes, photos, laughter, and a party atmosphere. But it turned out to be: "A fantastic, fun, but also a little scary, crowd adventure." 😂🎃 ⸻ 👻 The Halloween atmosphere has fully kicked off in Shinjuku. As night fell, the streets of Tokyo began to change. Walking around Shinjuku, you could already see many people dressed up in elaborate costumes. The streets of Tokyo, where people usually wear suits, office attire, and casual wear, suddenly transformed into a giant live-action cosplay event on Halloween night. After playing for a while, we started to feel: that's enough. It wasn't that it wasn't fun anymore. It's just that there were just too many people. Especially when you start to feel less and less free to move, it means it's time to leave. We didn't want to wait until the crowds got even worse before leaving. So while things were still manageable, we decided: leave! 😂 After leaving that most crowded area, I really felt like, "Phew... I can finally breathe normally again." ⸻ 🎃 Tokyo Halloween: Crazier and more dangerous than I imagined. This first Halloween experience can be described as: Surprising and frightening. The surprise was—we really saw a lot of incredibly creative cosplay. I truly felt the energy of Tokyo's youth. I also experienced a night completely different from my usual Tokyo. But what was shocking was—the crowds were so massive they were almost frightening. Before, when I saw news reports about "crowded places," it might have seemed like an abstract concept. But when you're standing in the crowd yourself, surrounded by people on all sides, even struggling to turn around, you truly understand: You absolutely cannot underestimate the crowds at large festivals. ⸻ ❤️ Final Travel Thoughts If you ask me, "Is Tokyo Halloween worth experiencing?" My answer is still: Yes. 🎃 If you enjoy cosplay, photography, street culture, and the vibrant atmosphere of youth activities, Tokyo Halloween is definitely a very special experience.
