Wales is a beautiful little country and has some amazing sights to see, Tenby is my favourite by far - a stunning little seaside town that takes your breath away. Located on the south west coast in pembrokeshire this coastal haven is an amazing place for shopping, eating and relaxing - it has such a laid back vibe it feels like you have gone back in time. The historical fishing town is build up around a natural harbour which is surrounded by beaches and calm seas, it is still a big fishing hub now but mainly focuses on tourism and travelling. The town has beautiful pastel colours buildings that wind down from the cetner to the beach, along these roads are cafes, shops and galleries. Being a seaside town it has plenty of sweet shops, souvenir stores and of course vintage amusement arcades - it adds to the feel that you are back in a bygone era. The town is famous for it’s ancient walls, castle and fort - all of which have been kept In good condition along with the well preserved town center. There are old pubs, an old market and various churches of size - all of which help give the town it’s relaxed vibe. It’s very family friendly as the roads are quiet, with the main town center being pedestrianised - in summer the beaches and local water activities are fun for all the family. The harbour is a hive of activity and offers boat trips and excursions to local islands, various different fishing trips and a lot of water activities during the summer months. 1. Top of the Woods, Boncath Award winning Eco luxury Glamping & Camping. We have stayed twice, once in a Nature Dome & once in a Pioneer camp - both we enjoyed. Each option comes with fire pit & outdoor kitchen as well as a wood burner to keep you toasty at night. Minimal reception & WiFi which is bliss. Lots of amazing walks & trails nearby including a secret waterfall trail. Can be expensive in peak summer, we usually go on the tail end of the summer season. 2. Washfield Cottages, Molleston 3 out of the 5 cottages are dog friendly. We stayed in the Cattle shed which was perfect, it sleeps 4 & is set up for families with board games, books & dvds. Quirky, stylish and very comfy, we loved our time here. Only a short drive from Narberth. 3. Landsker Camping, Canaston Bridge One of the nicest camp sites we have been too. Surrounded by nature, with 17 private pitches each with a fire pit, it’s private, peaceful and perfect for a chilled weekend away. There is also a communal sheltered space with ping pong & board games & nature play area. 4. Fforest Farm, Cilgerran Unique, calm and simply stunning location with over 200 acres to explore. Does get busy & expensive during summer but is lovely at off peak times. We stayed in a Crog Loft in April and it was bliss. Located next to a wildlife reserve which is well worth a visit. 5. YHA Manorbier One of the best locations in Pembrokeshire, right on the Wales Coast Path and only a short walk from Church Doors Cove. The Airstream, Camping Pods and Camping is dog friendly. We stayed in the pods which are cheap & cheerful but also fully insulated with heating, electric & comfy beds. Have you stayed at a dog friendly site in Pembrokeshire that was really good? Wales Is a beautiful and often overlooked area of the United Kingdom and I feel like more people should come and see this beauty for themselves. My favourite part of wales is the seaside town of Tenby and it’s amazing beaches, I spent a lot of my childhood here and have so many fond memories! The town has 3 miles of beaches that are beautifully maintained, clean and great for year round adventures. The beaches are all fully sand and stretch out uninterrupted from the town. They are long enough for running, exploring and dog walking - something very popular among the locals. The beaches are very clean and the water is calm, suitable for swimming when the weather is good! The beaches also have good parking spots and the busier areas have toilets, cafes and often changing rooms. There is also a great beach at the waterfront of the town, big enough for many people in the summer and close to all the shops, restaurants and toilets in the town - this is heaving in the summer and a great place to enjoy the summer vibes! Tenby Town center is an amazing place to spend a day and fell like you have travelled back in time, there are so many listed buildings, historic churches and vintage sweet shops you feel like time has stopped. The town is famous for the fact it has resisted change, major chains and gentrification and allows you to experience the slower side of life that you often miss in your day to day hustle and bustle. The classic market town has a main road full of sweet shops, souvenir stores and clothes shops with lots of little alley ways and side streets winding off the side, full of markets, cafes and amusement arcades. The town is heavily pedestrianized and has lots of open spaces which allows you to really explore the town and get a feel for the life here, along with fantastic views over the ocean and super fresh air. The town is famous for it’s 13th century city walls and gates that have stood the test of time, you can even find little shops and pubs built into the walls with various special themes. Tenby Town is a gorgeous seaside resort in Wales that has a lot of quirks, making it an amazing place to visit - there is something for everyone. The town is built up around a fishing harbour and open beach which have become icons of the area, drawing tourists from all over the world. The harbour is still a working fishing harbour with boats coming in and out all day, you can buy all the fresh seafood at the local markets or sample them in one of the many fresh seafood restaurants. The harbour has lots of shops, cafes and restaurants around it selling everything from fresh ice cream to deep fried seafood. There are also a lot of craft stores selling local good with everything from local made furniture to home made pickles and preserves. In the summer you can get boat trips from the harbour to go whale watching, try your luck at fishing or go and visit the monastery on Caldey island. Tenby is a gorgeous little seaside town in Wales that has a lot of highlights - the beaches, the fresh air and the food being some of the best. However for me my favourite thing is the rows and rows of pastel houses, it’s such a cute part of the town and something you don’t find often these days. The town spreads across a large hill and these cute little streets wind up and around the hill and each terraced house is painted in a different pastel shades. I love walking along the streets and taking photos, trying to see how many different colours I can get in each photo. A lot of the houses also have really cute names along with decorations to match the colours, in the central area of the town you notice that a lot of the sweets that they sell match the colours of the houses. It’s a great way to spend an afternoon, exploring the town and seeing what is around every corner. Tenby is one of Wale’s true hidden gems and one of the most beautiful seaside towns in the UK, I spent a lot of my childhood here over the summers and every time I go back I find more reasons to love it. Around 2 hours drive from Cardiff this stunning coastal highlight has built up around a fishing harbour and beautiful beaches, with famous sweet shops, fish and chips and castle walls. The town flows down a hill from the old town walls and high street down to the fishing harbour, beach and castle - it’s beautifully maintained and you feel like you are going back in time when you step into the town. The iconic pastel coloured houses, stick of rock shops and vintage tea rooms all add to the throwback vibes. In the summer you can get boat rides to Caldey island to see the monastery, go out on fishing expeditions or try your hand at windsurfing or paddle boarding. In the evenings the town has a very vibrant food scene along with craft breweries and traditional pubs. I love a good Neolithic and Megalithic site and have visited quite a few across the UK but this year I really want to focus on ticking off more in Southern Wales as we have some fantastic sites in stunning locations plus they are all free. Ones I’ve visited so far 1. Pentre Ifan Chambered Tomb, Pembrokeshire One of the most well known in Southern Wales and for good reason with a stunning backdrop and a giant capstone impressively balanced on three uprights which has remained in place for over 5,000 years. . 2. Tinkinswood Burial Chamber, Vale of Glamorgan Set in the countryside Tinkinswood has one of largest capstones in Britain with experts suggesting that at least 200 individuals would have been required to hoist it into place, very impressive. . 3. St Lythan Burial Chamber, Vale of Glamorgan This imposing Neolithic tomb stands alone in the centre a field on the outskirts of Cardiff. You can walk from Tinkinswood to St Lythans as part of a circular walk, one of our favourites and definitely recommend . 4 Kings Quoit Cromlech, Manorbier, Pembrokeshire Walking up along the coastal path from Manorbier you will find the Kings Quoit, a cromlech with amazing views across the bay. . 5. Pontypridd Rocking Stone, Rhondda Cynon Taff The Rocking stone is an easy to access 10,000-year-old glacial boulder. The ancient stone is surrounded by a newer Gorsedd circle which was placed in 1849 and is known being n a focal point for public gatherings and local bardic ceremonies. . 6. Garn Wen Burial Chambers, Goodwick, Pembrokeshire While sandwiched between a residential area and a private field, you will find the 3 burial chambers of Garner’s Wen open on a small strip of public land, they are almost hidden but worth seeking out as these chambers are said to date back to between 4000 and 2500BC . Ever thought about spending the night in the middle of Yangcheng Lake? This time, we stayed with the kids in a real “Crab Boat” converted boat house hotel! Kayaking through the reed maze by day, watching thousands of birds return to their nests at dusk, and falling asleep to the gentle rocking in the heart of the lake at night… this experience is truly one of a kind! 🚤 Unique Boat House Accommodation We stayed at the "Yangcheng Lake · Chuan Shuo Resort Hotel," which is made from dozens of traditional crab boats (used for catching crabs) converted into rooms, anchored in a peaceful lake bay. Each boat is an independent room with floor-to-ceiling windows, a waterside platform, and a cozy interior cabin. In winter, the boats have air conditioning and electric heaters, so it’s never cold. How excited the kids were: to them, this was a real “big ship”! Running around on the deck, using binoculars to look into the distance, and learning to tie sailor knots. Unique experience: at night, the lake water gently laps against the boat, slightly rocking it like a cradle. In the early morning, opening the window reveals mist swirling over the lake and water birds flying by, like a fairyland. 🌾 Winter Water and Wetland Activities Kayak Exploration: The hotel provides professional kayaks and instructors. The lake is calm in winter, and we paddled deep into the withered reed marshes, where the waterways are maze-like, occasionally startling resting water birds, full of adventure fun (life jackets are required, and young children can ride with adults). Birdwatching Paradise: Winter is the prime birdwatching season at Yangcheng Lake. The lake bay where the hotel is located is a protected area, where you can see flocks of egrets, herons, wild ducks, and if lucky, swans. The hotel provides a simple birdwatching guide. Lakeside Cycling and Walking: You can disembark at the hotel dock, which connects to a scenic lakeside boardwalk and cycling path, perfect for strolling or biking. 📆 Two-Day, One-Night “Little Sailor” Itinerary Day 1: Check in in the afternoon and enjoy a welcome afternoon tea on the boat deck. Join the hotel’s “Little Sailor” activity (learning simple knots, flag signals, etc.). In the evening, take the hotel’s electric sightseeing boat (or kayak yourself) to watch the sunset and returning birds on the lake. Have a warm lake-fresh hot pot dinner at the boat’s restaurant. Day 2: Watch the sunrise over the lake early in the morning (if you can get up). After breakfast, join a kayaking experience.
